Just remember the $50 signup voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any promo codes.

    • +5

And even worse if you get refunded (seller out of stock, don't receive it or faulty etc) the voucher is lost and won't be replaced.

      • +3

I had a seller cancel my order placed using the $50 signup voucher, and was prompted/able to use it again within the initial 30 day window.

      • +2

and even worse you have to deal with ebay customer 'support' lmao

      • Really???

    • +1

just missed this comment, and found that out the hard way :|

  • +2

I remember when amazon came to australia and ebay was smashing it … what happened?

    • +2

A case of "Never realised it could be better". Now we know that we don't have to accept slow delivery for cheap and dubious quality at best with no hope of returns or refunds.

Ebay had us because despite all the BS, it was the cheapest, now we can get that without the BS with Amazon and absolutely painless return policy if you get shafted?

"Never realised it could be better"

  • +1

Signed up 2 weeks ago no $50 voucher. Had to contact them and they are investigating. Zzzz

    • +2

They'll probably wait another 17 days and then reissue the voucher backdated to when you signed up.

  • The $50 voucher Cannot be used with any other code, I will never pay $$ to eBay for this membership again

    • +4

The bigger trap is the fact that the balance of the voucher is forfeited if $50 isn't spent in a single transaction.

      • Ebay has detected that you are trying to claim a discount. We will arbitrarily break your order into multiple smaller orders to prevent this. Have a nice day.

    • So if a 15% code is available from seller, you cannot use the $50 discount on top?

  • Read terms and conditions. Last time i got my $30 ebay voucher was Coles voucher with $100 spend minimum. eBay tricked me

    • thats different to the standard Cancellation $30 voucher. You're talking about an eBay x Coles $30 off $100 promo.

  • I guess people who had ebay plus in the past are not eligible?

    • +2

I've had a trial before and I was offered the $50.

      • Did it work for you?
I was offered the $50 but clicking on the ad doesn’t mention it on the confirmation screen.
Chat wouldn’t give me a straight answer.

        • Did it work for you?

Yes. Twice on two separate accounts.

There is no mention of it during the sign-up process or confirmation.

It's always prudent to take a photo or screenshot showing the $50 banner and your name (usually G'day xxx) in the top left corner just in case.

    • +3

I actually just had my ebay plus accidentally renew itself after signing up on this deal last year.

Immediately cancelled and went to chat support - asking to refund. They actually just straight up refunded my this year's ebay plus costs, without cancelling it. So I got an actual free year of ebay plus, not this 30-day voucher nonsense.

May not work for everyone, though, don't recommend purposely trying it.

      • FYI After cancelling, the membership will still active til the original renewal date

      • +1

I signed up paying through PayPal. Immediately cancelled the payment authority in PayPal. They never took payment for the second year, but I still have eBay plus. I'm very curious to see what will happen next year.

        • how to cancel payment authority in paypal?

          • +1

@htc: Go to Payments, Manage Automatic Payments. This link should take you there.

            https://www.paypal.com/myaccount/autopay

            • @Miss B: thanks, status says active, so I click cancel. Also does ebay duct the $49 after one month or deduct after I register for ebay plus?

      • Yep, mine automatically renewed with zero notice last week (turns out their T&Cs explicitly says they can and will do that). They provided me with a refund when I'd asked, which I'm happy about.

My Plus membership was fully cancelled, which I'm fine with. I'd never used the Plus benefits anyway.

    • i had Plus from the jump, cancelled to get $30 voucher twice. Ended it early 2020 but was able to claim this straight away earlier this year.

  • +11

The $5 vouchers are usually pretty useless. They have a minimum spend limit ($50 I think) and you can only use them on eBay Plus items (they are usually more expensive even with the $5 voucher).

  • +10

Comments make it sound like I'm the only person using eBay Plus and mostly enjoying it. I can't comment about customer experience, but I've solved all issues with products direct with the vendors who often just refund me the money for what I bought and don't ask for the faulty item back. Voucher issues haven't happened, and I've made use of two weeks of the Tuesday deals, amongst a bunch of other regular purchases.

I find eBay useful for smaller items, for example I bought a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter today with free shipping for $7. On Amazon they're more expensive due to the nature of needing to pay a larger cut to Amazon than what eBay would take so I couldn't find an equivalent there. The other rarer gem deals like 20% off Bing Lee are genuinely good too (someone at Bing Lee who my Dad knew didn't even bother trying to beat their own eBay deals).

Will agree that using vouchers can get confusing sometimes but I personally believe there's enough use for eBay plus over a years time to say this is a deal, especially if that voucher will cover the cost of membership. Just a small hassle to read through T&Cs of the vouchers to see if there's actually something stupid about it but I've generally been happy with my experience. They even sent me a $5 voucher for a product being delayed in delivery (literally a day off from estimated arrival), which I used to buy myself a screen protector for my phone, no minimum purchase.

I guess my point is its a good experience when its smooth sailing.

    • +4

It's not just the vouchers. You can get many things on eBay with free shipping without eBay plus. Following your example, the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is $6.49 including free ship found on first search.

      • I totally forgot these things may be free shipping without Plus membership. Either way, cancelling the renewal and getting a voucher to stay, or deals like this usually make membership next to nothing or pretty much nothing anyway.

    • +1

We seem to get late ship vouchers for most purchases. Bonus
      .

    • +1

Not only that. I got a $100 voucher after I made serval purchases on ebay. I find the extra discount on Appliance online ebay store is also very good.

  • +11

eBay plus is out of touch from their customers. They're so backwards compared to amazon.

    • -7

Perhaps that's why Amazon aren't making a profit down under. They're too customer-centric. I'd had an issue with a item and they just refunded me straight away. Did not even mention about sending the item to the manufacturer for warranty.

Honestly, feel kinda bad so would give the manufacturer a ping in a future as I don't want Amazon to be out of pocket for my convenience.

      • +4

Poor Amazon, must be doing it real tough by being too customer-centric /s

  • The trial is all you need if you doing those promotional deals. Scored 2 $99 AirPods 2 and 1 $249 AirPod pro and never found a use for eBay plus after that. I even get those late delivery coupons from regular spending at branded retailers occasionally.

  • $50 voucher valid for 30 days only.

    • Only sign up when you find $50 things to buy without using promo code or very small discount by using it.

  • +1

I accidentally forgot to cancel and got auto renewed after getting one of these $50 deals a while back. Was so filthy that I got charged to use a BS service that I made a point of buying as many cheap Tuesday deals as I could get and checking sellers eBay stores for free delivery before buying on their website (e.g. Baby Bunting).

I'm actually not annoyed anymore because I've found I've got way more than my $50 worth through some plus only coupon codes, cheap headphones, a zillion Finish tablets, baby wipes among others.

  • wanted to buy a frypan, free delivery amazon’s prime from UK as it was over $49, the ebay version had $120 delivery from europe …..
it’s not just local delivery times, if you buy a lot of overseas items, that is where amazon really kills ebay.
only thing with good verse as shipping on ebay is those small items from china that take a long time to arrive.

  • I don't understand the need to compare eBay+ to AmPrime when eBay pays us to be members. It's like comparing Spotlight's VIP membership (which costs nothing but an email address) to Costco's. Product range is not even the same! Then, when I need something, I shop around. Don't you?

My eBay+ is not up till Aug, and I might even renew it now just in case. (And for the $30 cancellation voucher!)

    • +1

i'm a member on both eBay Plus & Amazon…i always raise the same statement as you when this comes up lol. They are same-same but different.

      • Yep. Besides, wanna compare eBay to AliExpress, or to Banggood, or SaraMart…? Ok. But comparing it to Amazon—and then whingeing about customer service—is like comparing Big W to David Jones! Literally barking at the wrong tree 😂

  • +1

Stay away from eBay - they're full of fakes and shonky. I bought an item which had:

    "eBay Money Back Guarantee
Get the item you ordered or your money back."

The item was fake, but when I asked ebay about it, they said it did not qualify, in spite of eBay saying it in the listing.

    • Just like their ‘seller protection’; there is none. They told me to go to the ACCC if I didn’t like the decision.

  • Amazon scrape their competitors websites and lower their prices accordingly. I know a few websites look for the amazon bots and put the prices the bot see's up a little (10%) automatically.

Amazon charge what they need to in order to be a few percent lower than their direct competitors, hence the reason when you look on the US website things you can't buy in Aus are cheaper.

Amazon have basically gamed retail and will charge what they can, when they can, until their competitors can't.

    • nope not true - they have never been the cheapest for everything and for the last few months haven't even matched all catalogue prices at coles and woolies…

      • Finding deals where they chose not to match doesn't invalidate the fact they have bots scraping competitors sites for pricing details. I know a dev who wrote software to supply different pricing to the amazon bots (than pricing that normal customers see).

        • +1

          so what ?

what you wrote originally was untrue.

          just how connected are you?

  • Wasn't coles discount 10% originally? dropped to 5% now?

  • +2

Can this be used for existing members? Or new members only

    • +1

I had cancelled ebay plus, then after a month or so I was able to use this deal to sign up again.
There was a time where you could go through cancellation, and were prompted for $30 voucher to stay (I believe a $30 voucher for Coles?). Then you could cancel anyway and sign up with the $50 voucher (so technically getting $80 for renewing ebay plus @$49 cost).

So yes, existing members were able to use this before (but your current plus membership needs to be expired).

  • +2

The monthly $5 off coupons have a $50 minimum spend on it. Pretty garbage tbh.

    • +1

Exactly, people often forget about that

    • I've used them twice in the past 2 years.

  • +2

Maybe worth to mention that it's a "single use voucher". I've read multiple times of people accidentally using the voucher (either on a smaller purchase, or when checking out the "contest" deals where you need to be really fast and they didn't realize the wrong voucher was selected.).
So if you apply the $50 voucher on a single $5 purchase, you throw away $45 (there's no remaining balance!).

I would strongly recommend to first look for something worth $50 or more (that doesn't require any other voucher), then sign up and immediately redeem the $50 voucher.
If you don't want to remember or get stung by $49 yearly renewal, cancel immediately (you keep your plus benefits).

  • So would previously Plus members get the deal or just get rejected like the $1 thing like time

  • F-You, WA, NT and TAS.

Pretty sh*t. They could include and offer discounted shipping, at the least.

I already boycott amazon. ebay looks next. Rather pay more and try to get things local, at this point.

  • Such a contrast when you look at number of likes to this post and then read the comments.

  • In case you got tricked into this by eBay (like me) and you don't mind Dan Murphys, it's easy to spend the $50 at their eBay store, e.g. the $53.05 Monkey Shoulder, which is a nice drop.

    • +2

An eBay plus member can buy that for $47.74 so your voucher then only gives you $44.69 of value in that case.
But still worth it if you don't have anything else you want to buy now.
It's hard to find $50 worth, which isn't overpriced or has another code to get discount (which you can't use with the voucher).
I ended up buying some items from Coles, but "recovered" from what I missed out on with 1 eBay Tuesday deal.

And I also recommend to already cancel eBay plus after using the voucher, if you don't want to be surprised in 1year ..

  • +2

Please note $50 voucher can use at once, you can't buy $30 worth of goods one time and balance $20 next time. have to buy more than $50 worth of items at once within 30 days to apply this $50 voucher. Otherwise you will loose balance amount of voucher.

    • Ah I should have seen this comment before buying $20 stuff…. Ebay tricked me…

  • I have never even received $5 voucher and it’s been over 4 months now

    • Did you check your messages too? Normally you get a private message "<your name>, you've got $5 off!"
You're not really missing anything though.
Can't stack with any other vouchers and minimum spend of $50.

      • Yes nothing in email or the messages regarding so called $5 monthly vouchers

        • +1

I would raise it with the support team.
Support is not that good from past experience, but this should be a no brainer …
They advertise it so they should provide.
I would also demand the missed vouchers, saying you wanted to use them, but you couldn't because they weren't there..
I think this is a link you can use

          • @johnmelb: Obviously, it is not an big issue coz most people do not use it anyway. I recieved them intermittently and did not complain about it at all.

  • Is this any use to people who already have eBay plus? E.g. will the durations stack?

  • Anyone can confirm if this $50 voucher can be used with eBay gift card?

    • It can be used together with eBay gift cards ( for example if you buy something >$50).
It can't be used to buy gift cards.
It can also not be stacked with other eBay discount codes).

      • Ok thanks, that's make it a little useful.

  • Do they turn off this deal whenever there's a promo happening, e.g. right now with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619365

My other question is, can you Afterpay the eBay Plus fee?

  • I am not quite sure what has changed. I haven't shopped at ebay for a long time. Joined ebay plus for the $50 voucher. Then, all the sudden, my cart requires me to provide home address rather than parcel locker before I can check out. I asked the seller and it was told that no one has any issue. Is it ebay plus related? or is it because the Paypal address doesn't match the parcel locker?

  • Are Coles ebay prices same as in store?
I know range is much less, so buying is much more difficult.

  • Free express metro delivery on millions of eBay Plus items….

    …Excludes WA, NT and TAS.

    WA, always left out :(

  • I just had a seller cancel a sale after waiting a few days to post.the idiot probably got a pm local buyer after the local auction. I used the voucher and it was due to expire on Friday .this just sucks. Does this mean I don't get to use it and just lost $50?

  • Confirm link still working today, just signup and got the $50 voucher and use it for my purchases!
It cost me nothing for this year membership as the item I need to buy is over $50!

Not sure I will still that the $5 monthly voucher?

    • Don't see why you wouldn't? I only just signed up the other day too (for 1 year and got the $50 voucher) and I now have two $5 monthly vouchers (not sure why they gave me 2, perhaps one of them was for last month as I signed up in May).

  • Hi there,
We want to let you know about some changes to your eBay Plus membership.
The Coles on eBay store will be closing on 16 July, 2021. This means we will no longer be able to offer the 5% off discount and free delivery over $49 on Coles orders as part of your eBay Plus member benefits.

  • if i get this will i qualify for the westpac rewards $49 cash back offer?

    • I was thinking this yesterday so I purchased last night. eBay Voucher came thru just waiting for the transaction to show up on the westpac, not even showing as pending yet.

  • I will sign up with this link after my ebay plus expires next week. $50 voucher is better than nothing.

    • That's what I just did. eBay Plus finished on the 15th, just signed up again today.

Just a heads up if you have a Westpac card, check your rewards for a $20 cashback for $49 or above spend at eBay.

Makes it a (small) tidy profit.

      • Is the cash back only applicable to Westpac credit card? I only have debit visa card.

  • Should probably change the title since Coles no longer sells on eBay as per the comment above.

  • Banner now showing $40 voucher, not $50
