  • Grabbed Asrock B450M/AC with free shipping pairing with Ryzen 5 3600 because I need wifi card:

Should wait for this one and add AX200 then :(

    Thats dirt cheap

  • No Ryzen 5000? Not even with a BIOS update?

    • It should although MSI are releasing BETA bios for this purpose I believe not officially supported. That said I've got an MSI B450M Gaming running a Ryzen 5800X on the BETA bios no probs.

I stand corrected officially supported so listing should include Ryzen 5000

I have this motherboard. It works with ryzen 5000, but does not support pcie gen 4.

    • -1

3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™ ie. Zen 3 is Ryzen 5000 series.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Ryzen_processors#Z…

      • +5

Not the case. Ryzen is the brand for Zen-based products, but it's pretty easy to get them confused if you start crossing the streams.

        1st Gen Ryzen CPUs - Ryzen 1000 - Zen
        2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs - Ryzen 2000 - Zen+
        3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs - Ryzen 3000 - Zen 2
        "4th Gen Ryzen" CPUs - Ryzen 5000 - Zen 3

These boards from MSI have BIOS updates that support Ryzen 5000 CPUs, however.

        • How does one update without a working CPU though? Always the gotcha with these.. 😕

          • +2

@ryang: This mobo can flash bios without a cpu, it has a button on the IO. Just put a flash drive in the specified usb port and hit the button on the rear IO panel. I've done it myself with this specific board for 3000 support when it was initially released.

@wycs: Well damn, that's fancy! And awesome, thanks!

Is good board, never overclocked on it but I ran my 3900x at 100% for days and days on end

    downsides
    RGB control is meh

If you use both nvme slots, you can't use 4th pcie card slot.

Also, the second NVME slot is only half speed, and only the first slot supports m_sata. So if you have a "new" NVME drive and a "old" m_sata drive, you can only use your "new" NVME drive in the second slot at half speed.

RGB was definitely underwhelming on this mobo. I ended up using a third party utility, but it didn't officially support this board, so when I create my own profile the colour picker is offer, and I get a different colour on the lights vs the settings.

And yes, don't know why they bothered with the second NVME slot (other than marketing to try and compare better to other boards on features?)

      • Is that with the new B550 mortar as well?

      • If it's the utility I'm thinking of, the colors are reversed. So if you wanted full red, you would set red to 0 and blue / green to max

      • Totally agree, if your planning on building something with no thrills then this a great value board. It only seems support x2 4 pin JRGB which is used for strip lighting.

    • I believe it was a restriction of the B450 chipset, because there aren't enough PCI-E lanes to go around so the second m2 slot is shared with one of the sata ports.

I have the B450m Mortar Titanium

[Edit] and half speed means PCI-E x2 so it's still better than SATA, but I agree it's not ideal.

  • Is there an MATX amd board that allows full speed 2nd m2?

  • Hi, can you use the eBay plus $50 voucher from the other day with this deal?thanking you.

    • +1

No. Only one voucher can be used. I'm in the same boat as you. Planning to use my $50 on coles - The best value i can think of.

      • Yeh, I did the same. You get free shipping on Coles no matter what, but you can't use the discount code there either - think it was 10%??

    • I've used ebay vouchers to buy eBay gift cards before. Then apply the gift card at check out with the coupon code.

  • Not the best motherboard for overlocking - https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/f1dhkd/big_vd…

    I managed 4.1 Ghz on a 1600AF but I could have gotten higher if I didn't have vdroops .

    • +1

Maybe it’s a dud, this board has one of the best VRMs you can get for mATX

      • I thought I had a faulty board and got it replaced but exact same problem with the second one so unless I'm incredibly unlucky to have received two faulty B450M Mortar Max's, in my experience vdroop is a real problem with this board.

  • The onboard audio on MSI boards is notorious for dying.

    • link/ how does it die? Just parrot other idiots. fwiw I'm using a DAC but i'm sure one part of a circuit board isn't going to just die compared to a USB port. Nerds will want something better depending what they are comparing it to and expecting.

Great budget board keeps repaying me on the shopper's protection compared to the covid prices, owes me $125, $95 would have been ok.
