I've been looking at the 4TB NVME to build my SFFPC and I think this one seems affordable. the only downside i can think of is AMAZON US.

I am a Amazon Prime member so I don't know if there is any delivery cost for non prime member.

  • Heatsink is an extra $40 looks like sadly

It doesn't bother me much because i don't need the heatsink. my new SFFPC will be just a daily PC e.g. watching youtube and netflix.

They why do you need an NVMe drive? There are cheaper ways to get 4TB for daily use.

        • Seeing as you know about this stuff. I got my kid that Raetan Alloy 9 from the other week but need more storage. Any difference to getting an external 2.5" or 3.5" drive? I just want to plug it in via USB and forget about it. But not sure if thats the done thing with those portable drives. Any help appreciated.

          • +2

@zfa: If you want fast external storage, get a External 2.5inch SSD. If you want more storage, get a 3.5inch HDD. As long as its USB3.0 minimum, the transfer speed will be faster than the drive speed.

I was hesitant to upgrade to these a while ago, and while I do use them for some pretty heavy work, the tiny form factor convenience they offer makes me wish I was able to just exclusively use these in place of any old form factor of hard drive. It felt like make a huge sudden jump in technology level, no cables or space for a box required in the case.

Cheaper, but significantly worse with some major compromises. Hard drives are noisy and not as reliable, SATA SSDs are hardly any cheaper.

I will only use NVMe SSDs for local internal storage now - no noise, no cables, no fuss.

Most modern motherboards have in-built heatsinks

    • Just get a jeyi icecool-007 off AliExpress for like $7 or $8

Generally speaking everyone gets free delivery from Amazon Global (.com.au) when you hit the min. spend threshold of $59.

For Amazon Global Store orders; you must add over AUD $59 of eligible items inclusive of 10% Australian GST before checkout which are dispatched and sold by Amazon US or Amazon UK to qualify for free international shipping https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/help/customer/display.html?node…

    • Thank you for the information :)

Lowest price ever for Amazon based on Camels x 3 price history.

  • Nice deal :D

is this better then the Lexar NM790 4TB ?

    • +3

      No

    • But that mofo isn't in promotion since Feb/March.

      • It's $359 at mwave

Bear in mind - mwave did just go into liquidation and was bought out. Whether or not they are back to business as usual, I don't know.

        • As per comments in that mwave deal it's actually cheaper elsewhere, eg BPC tech

HMB no cache for $400? I've bought 4TB SN850X in past just a few pennies more than this
2 weeks ago picked up a similar HMB Biwin M350 4TB for $250

    • Same, waiting for SN850 to come back to around $400. No luck though.

    • I'm being really cheeky here I know, but I just saw this for 279 at centrecom. Do you know if it would go in my kid's Reatan Alloy 9? Getting him an extra 4TB all internal would literally be a dream come true for me.

      • +1

Reatan Alloy 9 has 2 x Gen 4x4 2280 slots so should work fine
And if ur talkng the Biwin M3450 4tb, I considered Centrecom, but they charge a credit card/paypal surcharge, so I bought if with free postage from Better Office Supplies online (they are Perth based) - arrived a few days later by Startrack AU Post
