  • Any deals on 2tb, and how to know if this is one side compatible. My laptop coming can only accept once with chips on one side not both. Legion i7

    • Okay 2tb is 51% off 187.67, good price?

      • fairly good, the Samsung pro 980 2tb was $166. I reckon prices will continue to drop in the next 12 months with the new gen coming.

        • How to know if this is one side compatible or not?

      • 2TB had been sitting at that price for a few weeks. I'm also after a 2TB NVMe.
I've got a few tabs open waiting.
I believe there might be another Prime day in Oct. Waiting!

  • Would the SK Hynix ones be better ? Or this?

    • Depends what you want to do. SK hynix don't have a 4TB option for the P41, neither do Samsung have one for the 990 pro yet.

They all aren't that far apart from each other.

  • +1

I haven't paid attention to SSD's in years to be able to differentiate them, is there a simple explanation as to why this is a good deal @ $379 for a WD 4TB NVMe when this Lexar 4TB NVMe @ $255 exists (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/792769) Thanks :)

    • The price is a good giveaway that there's no DRAM in the Lexar (uses your computers RAM instead).
This drive will come with 1GB DDR4 per 1 TB storage.

      • Damn it comes with its own ram? Is that a new concept

        • No, dram cache is fairly common now.

            • @DrDan: Yeah there are a few drawbacks from no DRAM.
There are some pros though: less battery usage, cheaper, usually runs cooler.

That Lexar (rebranded Maxio MAP1602) is fairly good what it is and you can see the 50% price premium for adding DRAM.

That video might be a tad outdated as DRAM-less drives are improving.

  • How does this compare to the recent deal of: "Lexar® NM790 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4×4 NVMe SSD 4TB NVMe SSD" for $255?

    • +4

      Games drive: Lexar
Main drive: this but if you are a casual user then Lexar is probably fine
      External drive: this
      Hard productivity user: this

      • It's well tested that the SN850x is the best gaming SSD. The Lexar while has faster sequential read speed on paper does not outperform the sn850x on 3d mark tests.

        • +2

You will never see a difference in gaming between the two SSDs even with direct storage

yeah good deal I think it is team to finally upgraded my 2tb ssd in my ps5 I have filled it already lol. 4tb here I come :D

  • WD wouldnt have international warranty would they?

  • +1

OMG outstanding deal. I love you, OP

  • Thanks. Been thinking for a while I need to upgrade my aging 1TB original Sammy Evo. This will do nicely.

  • Can u add this into an external enclosure ?

    • Yes, but ideally, you want to an USB 4 / Thunderbolt 4 enclosure (assuming you have USB 4 / Thunderbolt 4 on your PC). Even using such enclosure would only support / use PCIe gen 3 x4.

      • I am still considering options. I didn't know that we now have usb4. Wow

        • USB 4 is work in progress:

          USB 4 gen 2
          USB 4 gen 3x1
USB 4 gen 3x2 (commonly known as the current USB 4)
USB 4 gen 4 (not available yet to public)

Majority of USB 4 enclosures on the market are Thunderbolt 3 or 4 enclosures. Technically USB 4 gen 3x2 should support Thunderbolt.

Anyway, if you just use USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure with this, it is like buying a V8 engine and then run it like a 4 cylinders engine.

  • Back in stock again.

  • Been a price drop every few weeks.

Could this get to $350 in September?

    • It’s already September but if you’re not in a hurry, you could wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday (near end of Nov).

  • One in stock (apparently)

    • More stock now. Be careful though, a couple of Ozbargainers from previous deals reported they either got sent some random stuff or an empty retail box.

  • “ Usually dispatched within 2 to 5 months “

I’m assuming as this fulfilled by Amazon I can order and should there be another deal and they haven’t shipped this unit I can cancel?

    • Ordered mine late when this price, but finally got a shipping date.

      Arriving October 14.

Current prices $532 from Amazon UK.

My Acasis enclosure to arrive next week.

  • Mine was updated to shipping in mid nov so I cancelled and will wait for Black Friday and see what deals it brings.

  • my delivery was lost in transit by auspost.

amazon gave me a full refund.

now ill have to wait until the next sale.
