Has anyone seen the PQ on these and can comment?

These Sony X90whatever series is supposedly the best LED TVs you can get, with PQ and motion handling above the rest, if a bit pricey though. r/4kTV says that if you want to get the best TV but don't want to worry about OLED's burn-in, and you have more money than average to spare, get the Sony X90whatever series. If you are tight on budget, you have to settle for Samsung Q80T.

      • They are decent but the limited local dimming zones is one of a few things that hold it back. The X9500 has better picture for starters even within the sony range.

      • +1

Aren't Q80Ts more expensive than the X90 series? The X90 is where decent LED performance starts but as someone mentioned below, the limited dimming zones impair the contrast performance. YMMV but to me, X90H<Q80T<X95H<Q90T<A8H.

        • A Q8 can be better if setup right/panel lottery too. Use case depends of course.

Looks like one of the stand out models at this price point whenever I’ve viewed it instore (though store appearances and the lack of calib. etc. can be misleading)
I always find HDTVtests reviews informative, however be mindful that some HDMI 2.1 features (e.g. VRR) though promised by Sony are still yet to arrive via a future promised firmware update for this model. This is largely dependent on your usage preferences with this tv.

    • IMO PQ is awesome (better than any samsung i've owned), BUT i ain't no tv super nerd.
I did mess around with the settings and turned off all the digital processing stuff (this is a must do). It made a big difference in the PQ. It was doing some strange things with the blacks and what not when it was stock out of the box with all the crap turned on. I found a vid on youtube which i followed and used their settings.
Another big bonus, android OS. Apps like binge and hayu are available where not available on a lot of other TV's. Absolutely love it.

    • Best of a bad bunch. Wish it had higher peak brightness, and settings out of the box are weird.

I have the 75" and I absolutely love it. Great PQ and 4k upscaling. My only regret is that I didn't get the 85"….lol

  • Home theatre room - 85” or epson 9400 projector . Not super dooper dark room

    • +1

If you can fit a 100-120" screen and darken the room - Epson.

I have a 110 Projector and this 85inch Sony 9000. Sony all the way for the brightness and PQ. Plus the convenience of being able to watch it in any light conditions.

  • Also had them at Costco Moorabbin today.

  • I want to the width of the stand so I have an idea if the cupboard is wide enough….. Anyone know

  • What a size..

  • I'd love one this size!

    Price reasonable..

      Thanks for letting us know

          Lady year

  • Was around 3.5k previously at Costco

    • R U sure was X9000H and not X8500??

  • Did they have the 75" ?

    • +2

Yes @ $2800, $380 discount on the RRP of $3180.

    • +2

75" was on sale for about $2.8k

  • Would you install this or a 4K projector with 120 inch of screen ?

    • +2

Depends on the purpose. Colours, brightness, whether viewing day and night, for gaming etc will always be better on a tv.

If all you care about is the size of image/screen, then projector.

      Projectors vs Giant TV screens

      • Thanks

I am more fan for TV because there are no light restrictions however kids want big screen, and believes big screens are better for game and more of cinematic experience

        • +3

Until recently I have started playing video games on my LG OLED TV, even at 65 versus my 100 inch projector, I much prefer the TV as it has a higher refresh rate, clearer display, HDMI 2.1, Dolby ATMOS etc. It blows the projector out of the water in every respect. For me it's a better experience especially if they are most likely going to play games during the day

But if your kids aren't picky, and just want the size go with that, or make a compromise and get a cheap 1080p projector just for them and a giant tv for everything else

  • Recent goodguys sale is better but it’s very close to that price

  • Not bad. Rrp is inflated though. It's $4495 on Sony

    • If I'm not mistaken, that's not RRP. Sony has reduced the price on website as it used to say $4995 if I recall

      • +1

Original rrp was 4995 but base is now 4495 everywhere.

        • +1

Myers interestingly have it for $5899!

        • +1

That's true Imagine buying it for $3,821.18. That was a damn good deal especially 6 months ago

@cute as duck: I got a 65 damaged box on afterpay week. Still in the box until i move house. The 75 inch seconds for $2k i missed out on by a few minutes for our main room. 75 was also just over 2.5k new earlier this week. Finding it hard to justify the price difference between 75 and 85 but want 85!

            • @alfawex: Tell me bout it. In an ideal world I would have bought an LG CX 77 but was out of my budget. So compromised and got a 65 and moved the couch closer to the screen.

Just watched a YouTube review of this TV. Guy was saying how he bought it for under 2k at Costco…. in America. Man we get reemed real good in Oz.

  • The good guys deal was better around $3800 ish for this tv earlier this week, yeah price is reasonable but not the best.

  • I can confirm that this t.v is fantastic. However I bought the 75" for $3500 from Harvey Norman so in my mind that price seems a little high. Great tv for ps5 though. Team it up with a Samsung q950t soundbar and magic happens

I have a couple Sony smart tvs but have found many much cheaper brands now make better sense and are supported longer as Sony strategically drops apps & smart functions quicker turning your smart tv into a dumb tv because in Australia has weak consumer protection laws about these issues on fitness for purpose compared to say the EU which forced Sony to provide updates to keep Sony tvs in EU smarter for a more acceptable period of time.

    • My brain hurt reading this

      • +1

TL;DR version: Sony sucks at TV software updates in Australia.

  • How much for delivery thanks??

    • New XR 75 inches is cheaper than X9000.

      • That's US pricing

  • A few OZB managed to purchase a refurbished 85x900h for $3200 a week ago. That was an awesome deal from Sony.

    • But refurbished is not new.

      • And also the sky is blue.

        • Since when do we compare second hand prices to new ones? I'm sure there are plenty bargains on marketplace. Paying over 3k for a second hand tv is INSANE and I don't care what it's worth new.

          • @adam149: A second does not mean second hand

          • @adam149: Some people here probably care? I for one didn't know that Sony themselves sold this model refurbished. Thanks cheapies.

  • Waiting to get X9500h 75' around 3k mark, hopeful it will be soon.

    • The X9500H 75' has been just over $3200 many times just keep an eye out

      • That's true, I was holding off because the handover for new house was few months away. Do you think 85' X900H will be a better buy than 75' X900H for mostly movies/netflix etc and no gaming if the viewing distance is going to be around 4.5m? Cheers

  • Does this have airplay?

    • Yes it has airplay. We got the 75" from Bing Lee in November for $2850. It's a great all around LED tv.

  • Need help deciding fellow OzB's, do you think 85' X900H will be a better buy than 75' X900H for mostly movies/netflix etc and no gaming if the viewing distance is going to be around 4.5m? TIA

    • 4.5m is far. Go for the 85".

      • Thanks mate, you're leaning towards 900h or Q80T for 85'
