Not the cheapest it's ever been, but considering the RRP has increased to $399.99 and is rarely discounted, it's still a good deal at 26% off.

Mega in size, comfort and warmth, the Megamat 10 is about as comfortable as it can get and takes home comfort with you.

The new generation of Exped's sleeping mats, the MegaMat 10 is a self inflating pioneer with a level sleeping surface from edge to edge. The stretch tricot surface ensures maximum comfort with no ridges to disrupt your sleep and air-core-channeled foam insulation directing air exactly where it is required whilst reducing weight and bulk.

This luxury makes the MegaMat a synonym for comfort and practically it lives up to expectations too. Seperate inflation/deflation valves ensure simplistic useage and an easy-to-pack SideWinder stuff sack™ allows the MegaMat 10 to be packed small, reducing the size it takes up either in a pack, the car or the cupboard.

I haven't seen these discounted for such a long time.
    Best self inflating mattress ever.
The 15 would simply luxurious and divine, cause this 10 is brilliant

  • is it better to get two of the singles or one duo for a couple?

    • One duo. No gap in the middle.

      • even with the coupler kit is the gap that bad? been waiting patiently for a deal on the duo since i missed last year's but these things never go on sale

        • +4

Personally, I rather have 2 single. It will be more versatile and easier to transport when rolled up.

          • @haz: I don't know if it is the case with Megamats, but with some other mats I have found the double version takes less overall volume (when rolled/packed) than 2 single versions. Depending on your circumstances you may find it better to have one slightly bulkier package than 2 that you can split.

    • I’ve got 2 singles and actually found that a queen/king fitted sheet actually perfectly fits over both and serves to hold them together well enough.

    • Two singles are much more versatile.

    • singles are easier to chuck in the car.
our double had to go on the roof.

The very best deal was two years ago when the Megamat Duo (the double, not this one) was on special for $299.

  • I have recently gotten the urge to give hiking and camping a go up at Halls Gap. Hit a bit of a roadblock once I realised I'm going to need a few things and I'd prefer to get good quality gear. This looks like the sort of sleeping mat I should aim for over something like the BCF 4x4 stuff.

This mat is good quality, and super comfy - but I wouldn’t call it a hiking mat.

Comfort is important, so it depends how much camping from your car vs hiking you plan to do and how much weight you’re happy to carry, but there’s definitely lighter options out there if you’re leaning toward more of a hiking setup.

For reference, the combined weight of my winter tent/mat/sleeping bag is only about 200g heavier than just this mat

      • +3

This is definitely a car camping mat. Wouldn't go trekking with this!

      • Can you tell me what mat you use? I'm yet to get a tent but looking at the Coleman 3P Ridgeline about $170 from Amazon atm.

For hiking a blow-up is IMO better than a self inflating. Self inflating are just too big and heavy. I have a klymit luxe and find it great. I also sometimes carry a cheap yoga mat - it's bulky but waterproof and lightweight and can be strapped to the outside of your pack so doesn't take up inside space - makes a good surface for resting on during a break and also provides an underlay for your real sleeping mat at night.

I have an exped too and take it if I go kayak camping because there's a lot more bulk and weight you can take that way.

          • @afoveht: Thanks for the recommendations will have to do some more research.

@Ingram: Have a look at the sea to summit mats, you're unlikely to need insulated unless you're planning on snow camping. Nemo make some good alternatives too.

    • I can vouch for these. They're more comfortable than some actual mattresses.

But this is definitely not a mattress you take with you hiking. Way too big, heavy and bulky. I have the Megamat Duo and it definitely takes up a lot of room when packed.

  • I have the duo 10 and it is comparable to my Sealy at home. I just love it. Not cheap, but I did buy it when on sale at Snowys and use it for camping and visiting friends. Worth every penny

  • Can you deflate these using any sort of pumps?

    • These self inflate, but include a whoopie cushion type pump to increase inflation to desired, you roll and squeeze to deflate.

      • I was wondering if there was an easier way to deflate. I had a generic low quality brand and struggled while deflating.

  • Thanks! Got 2 for the parents

I'm sold on the concept of 10cm bonded matts, and Exped are the leaders, but haven't been able to take the plunge yet.

    Top end - Exped
High end - Zempire / BlockWolf / Sea 2 Summit
Mid level - Dune / Wanderer / Coleman

Is the 30% premium even when on special over Zempire / BlockWolf / Sea 2 Summit the worth it ?

    • +1

Got the zempire. I think its just as good, maybe better. Only diff with Exped i could tell is that its a little more heavier.
Not so relevant for me as all camping is by car.

I've tried both the Exped and the Blackwolf mega deluxe and my preference for firmness is best suited to the Blackwolf. You can pump this one up to an extra firmness with confidence that you just can't get on the Exped. Both superb mats though and really down to user preference, price and availability.

  • Wow, $400 RRP. Sounds more like a "glamp mat" rather than a "camp mat" XD

    • +1

Nothing glamp about it. Just a really good engineered air mattress. Depends how much you value your spine

  • Got one of these last deal after regretting for months not pulling the trigger on another deal. Great purchase - seriously good night's sleep.

  • What's the size of this folded?

  • paid 350 for the megamat duo, well worth the price, have a bad back and it captures comfort with support perfectly. Any decent fitted sheets that suit? the exped fitted sheet is pricey. My generic double from a bed is too large

  • Price now back up to $385.50!
