SMAX3PRO

This router has been popular previously and now the Global Version in English is on sale for a lower price.

This quad-core router has WiFi 6, AX3000 (2.4GHz: 574 Mbps, 5GHz: 2402 Mbps), 1 WAN port, 3 gigabit LAN ports and has an NFC chip so you can easily configure the router with your phone.

From a previous deal there is this video review, as well as a review here on the non-Pro version which shows off a lot of the configuration, GUI and other features of the router. The main difference between the AX3 and AX3 Pro is that the former has a dual-core CPU, while the latter has a quad-core CPU.

It has NFC. All it needs now is band 28 and a headphone jack. And it will be take my money.

    Kidding.

In all seriousness this is mighty tempting.

  • mmm,so cheap.
I still prefer Xiaomi or Redmi.

  • How does this compare to the Asus one?

I got the Asus AX82U in place of this thinking i will have better range, less congestion with wifi 6, less latency for gaming etc. The Asus turned out to be worse so i swapped back to the AX3 and use the Asus as a wifi bridge in the second room. The Asus was a complete waste of money for me.

      • Send it back for a refund. Not fit for purpose.

Tempted to get this as a dedicated Oculus Quest AirLink access point…

    • Would this work well for that? I can't hook my computer up to the router with ethernet so i guess this would let you avoid that problem?

      • Should work well. I'm considering it for that too.
I have a Nighthawk as the 'main' router from the NBN NTD, then using an older Netgear R6300 (I think) as a secondary router at the other end of the house with ethernet to my PC.
I'm going to see how that goes once my Quest 2 updates to v28 and if I need to get this to replace the R6300

  • good router - upgraded to it last year for 2 story 5 bedroom duplex. works well

  • Anyone can share how good or easy to setup parenting control? Is it working well to block certain ip or Mac with the time? Thanks

If you are looking for a budget WiFi-6 router, I would highly recommend the Xiaomi AX series. Huawei router is good, but its consumer series are not as good as its enterprise series. According to most Chinese reviews, Xiaomi AX3600/6000 are the best options for router under 200.

    • Seconded

    • Any support for custom firmware on them though?

  • $60 for the xiaomi ax1800 wifi 6 router https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164695367668

      So $22 less for a slower router? AX1800 vs AX3000 :/

  • Any knows if this router can it be used directly with TPG NBN?

    • What sort of NBN do you have?

FTTP/HFC: Connect Huawei to NBN NTD
FTTN/FTTB: Connect Huawei to VDSL mode
FTTC: Connect Huawei to NBN NCD

Last I checked it does not allow users to change DNS settings, deal breaker for me.

I wouldn't buy any Chinese router that couldn't be flashed with open source firmware. Even then, I am not certain I would.

It's irrelevant where the product comes from buddy, it's about whether I can do what I want with the budget.
Truth is I just can't afford those prestigious routers.

I bought one of these July last year. Very happy with it. Works great with Telstra cable and Aussie broadband NBN.
The GUI is in Chinese, but Google translate works fine.
Temperature wise It runs a bit hot underneath but I never had a crash or spontaneous reboot.
It does have a setting for VLAN ID under IPTV setttings but I cannot say whether it works with TPG or Future broadband. Others will have to comment here.

  • Hi OP, what's the difference between BR vs RU version?

    • One would assume Brazilian and Russian version. Packaging is probably different… I'm not sure.

      • Thanks

So, should I just order any version?

        • Yeah.

  • Does this support open-wrt ?
