I think you can get a korg B2 with stand for a little more at eBay

    • +1

      Link??

      • Same price as this at a lot of places without the stand example here but also at Manny's, Store DJ etc. Could probably get JB to price match

        • +1

But they said with stand.. the stand is worth 150

          • @D3m3ntia: Here
$729 with stand, minus $50 with eBay Plus….I'd say $80 more classes as "a little bit more"

            • @whitelie: Thanks, that's an awesome deal. Wish I didn't buy mine during the non-sale covid period

            • @whitelie: How do you get the $50 with eBay Plus?

              • +1

@Ebaygiftcards: It just says "Take $50 off with eBay Plus". I guess it's a voucher when you join as I don't have Plus?

                • +1

@whitelie: It shows lower price when you’re a plus member

            • @whitelie: It not only $80. The stand is worth 149 standalone.

              • @Dienk: It's $130 difference for the B2 and stand on the link I posted….$80 if you use the $50 eBay Plus voucher that they were offering me.

                • @whitelie: you have to spend $49 on the ebay plus membership to get the $50 voucher so only saves you $1

                • @whitelie: That's what I thought but comment above says it's the lower price with Plus?

Korg b2 is better hands down

    • Is this true for beginners as well? Would you recommend either for someone just starting out?

      • +1

It's the same price for a better digipiano. Price is usually the factor for beginners vs non.

      • -2

If you're just starting out, good entry level keyboards are $200-300, go for a 61 key. Or even try second hand.

        • +4

Hmm I've been told to not go for a keyboard if I want to play on a piano. Honestly I just want to learn a few classics decently enough to seem cultured to dates and colleagues when I come across a piano in the wild. I might go with a B2.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: That's a lot of money to spend, but on the offchance it all comes together, good luck.

I would recommend a second hand 61 key keyboard with USB attachment, then get that uh, Synthesia thing to learn songs, then just learn to play them on the piano after you know them… But that's just me.

            • +4

@Assburg: We can only try lol. I've got four keyboard and a piano and have been playing for 30 years but old mate wants to learn a couple of classics to get a root. Can't beat that testosterone drive.

              • +1

@King Steuart: Yes, OP won't need weighted keys for six months to a year, if they stick with their new hobby. And OP is more likely to be playing classics to their children than a date unless they are some kind of prodigy…

But piano's are significantly nicer than cheap keyboards to play and may help keep OP focused on developing. And OP sounds single. An extra $300 on a hobby at that stage of life is not normally a large burden.

  • Korg b2 $599 many stores. Just google it.

  • It would help to say that this is on sale from $749 in the title, it's not a deal without a discount👍

  • Korg b2 $599 many stores. Just google it.

  • In before Korg b2 comments. Oh, wait.

      Username checks out

      • That's why I picked it…

  • +12

    Korg b2 doesn't have band 28 tho

    • +2

      Can it run off Eneloops?

    • A432 / A440 toggle and headphones socket ftw

    • lolllll

  • +7

I hear the Korg b2 is probably better value - it's $599 at many stores. You should just be able to google it.

  • At least it's a full size one, not the half-size ones you used to get when I was a kid (not like toys, the real deal)

    • well for $599 you would hope so

    • +2

I miss all the random voices you got on those cheap ones like drum kits, bird tweets, car engine zooming past etc. My favourite one was the dog bark sound - unlimited entertainment watching my dog turn his head in confusion wondering where the bark was coming from.

  • +2

hey guys i hear the korg b2 is better and about $599

    • My man, that udder dried up a dozen posts ago!

  • Wow I have 3 guitars and struggling to find the time to practice and now tempted to buy this!

I wonder how time time a beginner needs to spend to be able to play songs like Yanni's Nostalgia on piano.

    • +3

      On a Korg B2 for $599 it'd be better.

    • Years. I've been playing piano on and off for maybe six years now and this looks difficult for me. I struggle with anything where the treble and bass clef aren't aligned.

  • Anyone got a samick digital piano? Let me know if they are good

    • +1

I don't know about the Samick but I've heard the Korg B2 is pretty good .

      • +1

thanks yeah I heard about Korg. Local piano store suggest Samick. A korean brand Samick makes very good Electric guitars

  • -1

Tried this in JB before, hand feeling is not as good as the B2, personally.

  • 1+ for the Korg B2

  • Anyone know any decent small keyboards like this classic Casio https://youtu.be/jIaa7H9zAyE ??

    • +1

Search for yamaha PSS-A50 or PSS-F30 or even a child version PSS-E30

The A50 is very well reviewed and is available on Amazon for about $160

  • +2

Korg must be stoked. Free publicity riding off of competitor's sales.

    • Just bought a B2 on eBay…

  • I don't want a B2 now, sounds like the camry of digital pianos.. any other recommendations under $1k?

    • Definitely go Roland

    • Or a KAWAI

    • Alesis recital pro has Really good reviews

    • Yamaha P-125 is a very popular model but I don't know much about its comparison with other brands.

      • Roland fp30 is great. Cant go wrong with the yummy either. New model is coming I believe soon

    • Who uses Camry as an insult? It's literally the best value for money family car on the Australian market.

  • +1

The $599 is better at hungry jacks

  • Suggestions for an 8yo who has been taking piano lessons for a couple of months? No musicians in the family and no idea (and please, not the Korg B2!).

    • +1

Why whats wrong with the B2 :-)

      • +1

Just cause the name checks out 😏

        • +1

Come on Dad, I get we're on OzB here but open up the wallet a little bit more. Get a full size 88 key
          Korg B2 or Roland GO:Piano88

If you want it a little cheaper, this Alesis but it won't be as nice and for $70 more, you're better off with the Korg.

If the kid gives it away, take it up yourself…but in seriousness, you'll have better resale value with either of those two than a cheaper one if they lose interest.

        • Jesus Christ. You want your kid to take piano lessons and you're being tightarse about buying a piano with a dodgy PoS keyboard?

The Korg is the best value for money for this.

          • +2

@bchliu: Ha, hey, I said I had no idea re. piano/keyboard quality! Plus this is OzBargain!

The Junior Texan is only a couple months into lessons and teetering on whether he keeps with it, so not ready just yet to splurge on a grand piano :)

  • Casio CDP-S100 piano sound vs Yamaha, Roland & Nord.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SluEfMe-qYs
    One opinion anyway..

    • That's not actually the Casio's sound. They are using it as a midi controller playing different sound through a laptop. The guy does seem to like the feel/weight of the casio keys though

  • +1

    This one or Yamaha P-125?

  • Why is korg b2 better? Thinking of buying a beginners piano for the kid.

    • +1

Weighted keys. Playing on a keyboard is very different from a real piano. The Korg has weighted keys which mimic more like a real piano. Thats why these are called "Digital Piano" instead of "Keyboard" or "Synth".

  • -1

If you’re connecting it to your ios device anyway you may as well just get an 88 key midi controller.

  • Anyone know what the difference is between this and CDPS100? They are very similar pricing without the discounts. Looking at the specs they are very similar as well.

  • Decent places to try out a few different models in Melbourne?

  • Been following this thread as was looking at replacing a pretty cheap keyboard at home with something semi decent with weighted Keys. Tried to get my local Music Shop ( Derringers ) in SA to price match the Ebay price of $679 of the basic B2 and then the stand.

They wouldnt match it but they did give me a price of $729 on the B2 SP model which comes with an integrated stand as well as 3 Pedals. The Belfield Music one has a basic stand but No pedals which are quite pricey by themselves

    • Sounds like a decent deal if Pedals are ok. Google the pedals to see how they review. They are worth $0.00 if crap review if that makes sense. If half decent……then the deal seems reasonable indeed.

Do TEST the Keyboard to ensure that you like it if they have in store. You might not like the feel or sound or………..

  • ended up buying a roland fp 10 for the kid… reviews say its better. it was 680.
