iPad Pro 2020 11" 128GB $997, 256GB $1047 @ Officeworks

1440

Cheapest I can find the 128gb model outside Costco, so no membership required. 256gb looks like a good deal too.

It’s better to go for 256GB version.

For sure, bigger the better, she says.

    • +3

Why exactly? Ive heard this alot and I don't get it. Can't I just unload my files to a samba share automatically with an app and forget about it?

I get lightning is a bit slow and wifi is capped at a few hundred mbit but what files are iPad users typically making and how hard is it to get things off the internal memory?

      • +5

Most apps are more than 100 mb on iPad, and once u start downloading the games you are eating a lot of space.
        Finally resale value

        • A lot of them are 500mb-1gb due to a bunch of high res assets in them. The official apps like Pages, Keynote, etc are all over 1gb

      • @Chino Gambino
Read it again there's a catch.

For sure, bigger the better, she says.

think of the price per gig, with most apple products the pricepoint is usually most attractive if you go entry level +1 storage capacity upgrade. After that they start charging more and it's less worthwhile.

If this were an iPad mini I'd agree that it's not worth upgrading, but being the more premium model, you're likely to keep it for longer, and not having to stress about storage is 100% worth $50.

    • +4

I haven’t used close to 128GB on my iPad Pro.

But for an extra $50, I’d prob go 256GB too.

  • +1

Hm. 12.9 on sale too. After a 128gb 12.9 cellular - might be worth going for old gen over new gen - new chip and screen not worth $500 more imo!

    • +9

new chip and screen not worth $500 more imo!

You forgot more RAM, Thunderbolt 4, 5G, and better camera.

      • +4

None of which will be required for my usage.

Ordered 12.9 cellular 128gb for 1447 (vs 1897 for above additions). Pretty happy.

        Cheers op

        • i had the 12.9 from work with the magic keyboard and hated how large and heavy it was. Ended up giving it back and buying an iPad Air 4 as I much prefer the smaller and more portable size

      • 5G coverage isn't great in Australia, and do our models even come enabled for milimetre wave for when it eventually arrives?
The Sub 6gHz 5G doesn't have a significant enough speed benefit over 4G to be worthwhile for what most users will do on an iPad anyway. If it does come with the hardware for MM wave for when it arrives, would be some good future proofing

  • +2

For the 11" 256. Thanks OP

I can't find any stock in WA on the website.

    • I think it’s free shipping

rather pay $300 extra for M1 chip

    • +7

Me too. The performance is quite significant. Not your usual Apple incremental update.

      • +8

exactly, to me this price drop is just a norm due to new model, but with M1 significant performance difference, that $300 is not worth saving at all

    • +2

I’d get the new one but not for the M1 chip. I have the 2018 iPad Pro and have not noticed a single instance of lacking performance in 3 years. It simply doesn’t need the M1 at this stage. But i suppose we don’t know what the future holds, maybe they will release Xcode for the ipad.

      • Honestly even my iPad air 3 is incredibly fast and snappy. The hardware isn't what limits iPads, hasn't for years. It's 100% the software. Hopefully them adding M1 will mean they start to take iPadOS more seriously as a proper computer platform going forward!

  • +1

Price diff between this and the 2021 model is not really that big. Personally prefer 2021 model with much stronger M1 SoC, $200 more for 128GB model, $300 more for 256GB model.

    • +7

What do these do that warrants such great performance?

I'm still using my OG Air.

      • -3

M1 on Mac beats Intel Core i9, so, bringing that chip into new iPad is a real game changing for mobile creators.

        • +3

I am more interested on the mini LED screen though.

        • +9

          So it's A-Okay for youtube?

          Got it.

        • I don't know why you're getting downvoted.

The M1 absolutely destroys any Intel Mac in single core performance and it comfortably surpasses the highest i9 mobile configuration.

          • +1

@tp0: It doesn't matter whether it beats i9 when the software doesn't allow you to truly take advantage of that, at least for most users. If they improve the features in iPadOS 15, hopefully that changes. Surely it would help them boost sales of premium skus and improve their value proposition

A$1,129.00 on Apple Edu store, so only $132 more for 128GB. Thank you, will cancel my purchase.

Worth for M1 and extra Ram. I'm sure all new apps will soon be more optimized for M1, so better battery and Performance (like chrome on my iPad air 1 eats battery like a pig)

Please note that if you decide to go for the 2020 Ipad Pro and “save” a couple of hundred $$$s at the point of purchase this will lead to:

    1. You miss out on the mini led display, 8 ram, camera, M1…
    2. When Apple introduces MacOS like apps for IpadOS apps you’ll miss out on the full experience due to the lack of the above
    3. Going for the IPAD 2021 over the 2020 will get you back 70+% of the price difference when you decide to sell it 2-3-4 years down the line….

Apple product hold incredible resale value, its ridicilous, I’ve sold 4+ year old iphones and macbooks for more than half of what I bought them for….

So in summary by going for 2020 Ipad Pro you are actually paying more in the long run and missing out on all the new upgrades…. I call it a no brainer, this logic applies to all your purchases, never look at current values, only future ones

      Bang on
When people compare products & prices, they need to factor in depreciation, such that a more expensive product may be cheaper in the long run - Apple destroys the competition

      • I wonder how much my Macbook Pro 15 inch 2015 is worth? non butterfly version.

        • check ebay; thats how i check the market price if I'm selling something

    • +2

But only 12.9 inch iPad comes with mini LED screen.

      • correct, that’s why it is the one most people are going for even if its outside their budget

      • 16 gb ram too on 1 tb and 2 tb models.

        • +1

Best to get the 1tb or 2 if your going the XDR 12.9 edition & obvious your going to buy the bl$$dy expensive magic keyboard too

Bang for buck, buy the MacBook Air
          +OSX
          +Apps
          +includes a keyboard & trackpad!
Also has no memory limits to use that 8gb!!!

  • For the money the new 128gb M1 8gb is the price of the prior 256gb. Simple, get the new one! My M1 Air is hardy half full of big OSX apps. The iPad apps (even big ones like video editing) are all a fraction of the size on iOS

Buy the MacBook Air! Better value, no restrictions and it has a keyboard and trackpad, with apps that can use the power! Apple won’t make the iPad ever powerful enough to replace the laptop. iOS is not going to let you use all that power, rather it’s designed to soak people for money with awesome marketing and halo effect!

    • Would 128GB be enough or go 256GB? Will backup files to external drives, so just worrying how many stuff can be installed in 128GB model. Thanks!

      • +1

iPad, 128gb is heaps unless you DL lots of Netflix to watch offline or you actually mean to use it as a laptop (with kbd/mouse) for content creation then Id go 1tb for the 16gb (iOS has mem-limit of any app using more than 30% of the mem before its swapped unlike OSX)

its why I recommend the AIR (over the 13" pro, MacMini or iPad) ~ if your going to add a kbd/trackpad magic keybaord to any iPad you should be asking yourself, wouldnt I be better off with the AIR and the answer for most is YES.

But apple magic is strong as apples profits show

  • You could also pick up a sturdy $5 griffin case from any in stock good guys if you get the 11 inch screen:

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/griffin-ipad-11-inches-surviv…

  • Are the cellular ones on sale too? I personally think you should always buy cellular ones instead of painful tethering.

    • Used to think that..

But with the iphone, the tethering between iphone and ipad is pretty much seamless and completley automatic….

No need for a cellular ipad in the last four years or so…

      • Is it? The tethering between iphone and macbook is not seamless - sometimes have to try a couple times..

Not the case between iphone and ipad?

  • woah what a bargain

    • +1

      nvm thought it was 12.9
