Can I steam soup dumplings in these? How to prevent sticking?

    • baking paper?

You're better off getting the bamboo ones at Kmart for $10 everyday price

      • Bamboo won't stop the dumplings sticking though. I own the Kmart one and still have to use grease proof or baking paper, or the pastry of dumplings etc sticks fast.

Stainless might actually work without paper after a spray of oil.

        • Nope oil still doesn't work. I havnt tried the paper thou.

@[Deactivated]: Hm ok. The odd thing is bamboo steamers are wood and paper obviously is too. (Food sticks to bamboo but not the baking paper). Baking paper gets soaking wet using it this way, so I guess the moisture is what prevents food sticking. That's why I figured oil on the stainless steel would prevent food sticking (if you can get an even coat that stays put until food is placed on it). I'm always looking for new ways to save money. So I wonder if soaking a bamboo steamer in water for a few minutes before using would work… if the reason doughy coatings stick fast is because the basket is dry. Next thought is would the bamboo hold up to being soaked or fall apart.

Use green leafy veggies or thin cloth

      • May I know where to buy the thin cloth?

Muslin or cheese cloth or even old tshirt

        • Old pillow cases or sheets that have worn thin work very well as a budget cheese cloth.

    • Bamboo steam from an Asian grocer is probably your best bet.

I usually use baking paper (cut into a circle) and poke a bunch of holes to let the steam go through. Not kosher, but I find a little bit of oil spray (Neutral oil - Rice Bran), helps preventing the stick.!

Came for the ‘steamy’ comments. Am disappointed.

  • Wow this is an excellent deal. Have a Scanpan one and it's so useful for whatever pot.

  • Is Arcosteel one of Woolworths own brands?

    • No, I believe they are an international brand, but they do seem to have a lot of Woolworths-exclusive products. Maybe they have an agreement?

      • Did some research, aka 5 seconds in the Google..

Same Hong Kong company, Sky Chain Trading, owns quite a few cookware brands fairly well known in Australia, including Arcosteel, Baccarat, Baker's Delight and lots I never seen before, full list here - http://www.ipmonitor.com.au/trademarks/report/owner/Sky%20Ch…
