  • Sandy Bridge version.. nice!

  • +1
    • Possibly refurb due to the initial Sandy Bridge chipset issue in which case the risk in purchasing one might be quite low.

    • Appears to be $14.95 nationwide (testing with postcodes in the middle of nowhere still come back with $14.95).

Laptops have limited life times, refurb not recommended!

    • +1

So do humans. Refurb definitely not recommended.

      • How old do you think the refurbs would be?

    • That's why don't spend too much on laptop, especially no need to take up extended warranty. 1 year manufacturing warranty plus 1 extra year from the credit card is usually sufficient.

OW stock the u31 at all?

        • -6

Do my research for me? Please show me where I asked if this was also available at OW. Oh yeah that's right, you asked. Don't turn it around and make it look like I'm the lazy one.

And convenient how you now make out you were asking about OW in case someone else was interested. Didn't see that in your first comment.

^ why sometimes I love ozbargain lol

        • +14

You two should definitely hook up

        • +19

No way gatin. I would be expected to do all the work.

        • the average woman would tell you the same thing,, in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom….. ;)

I picked up the last one from Erina. It scanned at $662…

Plus they're offering $50 store credit via one of their Bonus Offers, a la:

Only until Monday 23rd for both the laptop price and the Bonus Offer.

  • Would this be good enough to play MW3?

    • Yep, not on high settings though.
I can play BF3 fine on a GT425M on low (I can play medium, but I choose not to strain my lappy)

      • Thanks. Sweet.

      • +1

The 425M is a better card if I'm not mistaken. This WILL play games, but at the same time I would go in to it expecting it to only play half of them.

        http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-520M.43104.0.…

Would have you believe it can't run BF3.

        • +1

          What? 425M > 520M?
I thought the higher the numbers the better? haha

        • +1

The first digit represents the generation, whereas the second and third numbers represent the actual size/power of the card.

        • @atlas
          Thanks!
Never paid much attention to the graphics card numbers haha :D

  • Bought this laptop from HN last time when they had the 50% discount ($599)

    Fully recommend it.

    ultra portable? rubbish! 1.7kg

    Thinkpad Edge E320 for $599

    Intel Core i5-2450M Processor (2.50GHz, 3MB L3, 1333MHz FSB)
    13.3" W HD (1366 x 768)LED, Anti-Glare, Low-light sensitive HD Webcam, Midnight Black (w/o WWAN)
    Intel HD Graphics
    4 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav without Fingerprint Reader
    500GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm

Only integrated graphics, yet perhaps better value for those that aren't interested in gaming.

    • E320 with SSD upgrade was available for the same price.

    • +2

hmm 10hr battery on the Asus vs what? maybe 4 or 5 at the most on the E320?

    • Also if you choose the E320 core i3 then customise to a core i5,total comes to $559.

      • Only 2GB RAM ;) Cheaper to go with the Enhanced version to start with :)

  • any1 bought this laptop ? Do you know which HDD it came with ? 500GB of 5400 or 7200RPM ?

    • +2

Most likely 5400, cause it's an Australian model.
American models always get better parts… :)

      • +1

i believe its 5400 as it gives more batty life compared to the 7200

  • When you print the page it comes up as $344, alas - they do not honour this price at JB Hi Fi!

  • Would this laptop be a better deal ?

    http://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=3330&typeID=special

Only ~$100 more (after cash back), with SSD and better graphic. Oh, and USB3.0 x 1

EDIT: It seems, it has problem with throttling while playing games. Seems flaw with their cooling system caused this. No wonder, with SSD this price is a bit too good to be true :(

    • Wow that is some good bang for your buck!

  • The Asus U31SD has 1 x USB 3.0 also

    • Where did you read about that ?

      1 x Microphone-in jack
      1 x Headphone-out jack (SPDIF)
      1 x VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin for external monitor
      3 x USB 2.0 port(s)
1 x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert
      1 x HDMI

That's from the official ASUS website.

      • beause I have the laptop - the USB 3.0 is blue
