  • are these comparable to the MIPS versions?

    • +6

MIPS is a cool technology for sure. The short answer is the MIPS version has MIPS, this version doesn't.

From what I understand the newest model comes with MIPS, this is the 2019 version which is basically exactly the same but without the little yellow MIPS insert. RRP for the new version hasn't changed from the previous version listed here, as, to be honest, adding MIPS to a helmet wouldn't be that expensive manufacturing wise despite the large price premium they came out with at first.

These are a really decent helmet due to the way they are constructed with the lower second around the back of the head. They helmets are ideal for those who are pushing the limits, fitting a sort of spot between a regular and a full face helmet.

If you are comparing a regular MIPS helmet (without the drop back) vs one of these without MIPS, then I'd put my money on this offering more protection, but of course it depends on what sort of crash you have. For some crashes, MIPS will be an advantage, others none at all. If you are comparing the MIPS dropframe helmet, the MIPS version would be better, but whether it's worth almost double the price to someone is up to them - at this price these are a dead set bargain for the amount of protection offered.

Hope that helps - if you are wanting an answer like "MIPS is 10% better" or something I don't think one exists, as it depends on the crash, but maybe someone else with some good knowlege on the topic can weigh in.

      • thanks,

      • That's great advice actually.

      • are you able to advise on sizing, regarding the comment below mentioning to size up?

also, thoughts on how hot this one gets?

  • Note to all got to size up for this helmet, always wear medium, purchased online, had to return for a large

    • do you mind sharing your head measurement?

measured mine a few times and I'm around 56/56.5 which does seem to go towards the L but is M on other helmets

I don't ride mtb but like the extra coverage mtb helmets provide when I'm cycling on the road. Visor's especially nice for fending off low-hanging shrubbery, too ;)

  • Damn if only Large size…
