      • How is this for gaming paired with a 1660 or 1660ti?

Planning to build a pc fairly soon. I know its not a good time at the moment with all the gpu issues, but might pull the trigger on this bundle.

        • As long as you don't run things in the background probably 19 out of 20 games you wouldn't notice a difference compared to an i5.

    damn, very very nice

Excellent price on the Tomahawk. I have the B450-A PRO MAX which is rock solid on my R5 3600. The only downside for me is that it has just one M.2 slot.

  • Does anyone know which one of these motherboards can support 2x RTX 3080's. I had a Asus B450 PRO but unfortunately the second PCI-E slot only supports 4x output which isn't enough to run the second 3080. Thank you

You need to look for a motherboard with 3 x16 slots

    • I don't think any b450s have a second pci-e x16 slot that runs above 4x
What's more important is that 4x connection almost always comes from the chipset, not the CPU.
Assuming you want to run SLI for games, which i'd recommend against generally, you need a mobo that supports PCIe bifurcation. Usually this is exclusive to higher end boards like x470/x570
If you're just trying to mine crypto, i think the chipset connection is fine. If it's not i'm sure someone will correct me.

      • The second card is for mining and as soon as its plugged in the machine won't boot the motherboard has a white light that comes on to indicate "no VGA detected" so I tried changing the PCI-e slot 2 from "auto" to 4x (they are the only 2 options) and still no luck booting. If anyone know's how to get past this any advice is much appreciated otherwise I will be needing to buy a new motherboard :(

Try reseating the primary gpu, they're like old console cartridges, sometime you need to pull them out and put them in a few times for them to work
Other than that, no idea. I've never been rich enough to afford 2 gpus.

        • Enable above 4g decoding in the bios

    • You would lose approx. 10% of the performance from the second card.

    • The tomahawk max 2 can run 2x3080. I have that setup. But you need to have very good airflow in your case, otherwise the middle card is very hot. i used the lianli lancool mesh 2 and i have to crank up the case fans.

I had MSI board and the onboard audio died. Seems to common problem with MSI boards.

Funny you should say that.. I recently tried to use my 2 yr old b450 Bazooka Plus onboard audio and no matter what I tried.. could no get sound.. only a hum… weird as..

  • Hey OP, any deals on B560 or Z590 boards?

  • Now let's hope for some AM4 CPU deals!

  • Is there must difference between the MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX and MAX II?

    • I think there is just a very minor revision change. No real big changes from the previous version. Still an excellent board, I built a PC with it and a R5 3600 and made for a rock solid machine. Perfect pairing with that CPU imo.

  • Looking at replacing my ASUS Rock B250M Pro 4, would any of these fit in my mini ATX and be compatible with RAM and M.2?

    • That mobo is micro atx
The gigabyte and asus in OP are micro atx.
Your motherboard is weirdly small for micro atx though. The asus is about 2cm longer and 6cm wider for example.
So if you think your case won't fit anything even slightly bigger than what you've got, probably not.

  • Can the B450 Tomahawk Max II handle the 5900X?

  • i guess itx mobo never gets the love.
