If these are $399 how should i justify paying $600+ for a dyson. Any opinions?

    • +16

I purchased the T20 when it first came out. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. Works super well, virtually zero complaints.

Can’t ever justify paying around $1k for the Dyson equivalent

      • +3

Absolutely, $1K for cordless vaccum is crazy, simply badly inflated price

Cordless vaccum is not an innovative product anymore for today

Plenty sub $300 range that does the job very well and serve reasonable lifespan

        • Dyson v15 shows you the dust before/after cleaning so that has to be worth something.

        • +2

Also Xaiomi is great at copying so they can afford to sell for less than half the price. Those who innovate and do R&D often have to sell at a higher cost.

          • +3

@expatOz: Ok, you have convinced me to buy the exact same product but for double the price. Thanks

          • +1

@expatOz: What's the innovation in these Vacuums? Innovative design?

    • +3

I've got a T20 that I purchased from the Kickstarter campaign, so I've had it approximately four months now. The two issues I've had so far:

      • Some random error popping up on the screen, after googling it I just had to clean one of the sensors off to fix it.
      • When I attach the long "tube" to the main body, usually I have to push a bit harder for the latch to click in or else it can come undone.

The latch thing is the only recurring "issue" I have. I might have just got unlucky, or they might have fixed it in the non-Kickstarter versions.

To contrast the complaints: I upgraded to the T20 from a Dyson V6, and I also have a Miele bagged canister vacuum. I have two long hair cats so I vacuuming daily - I'd say using the small furniture attachment on the T20 competes with the carpet setting on the Miele which is pretty dang good for a stick vacuum. All in all, very pleased with it!

      • +1

How is T20 compared to Dyson V6. I have a V6 and wondering if it's worth upgrading.

        • +2

Absolutely! I had the Dyson for about two years before getting the T20. I didn't like using the Dyson on carpet because the suction was crap and I always had to go over it with the Miele. I ended up using the Dyson as a hand vac to do the car or small spot jobs in the kitchen before it was replaced.

The T20 holds its own and I rarely, if ever, need to re-vacuum over it. A small thing that makes me happy is that the dock comes with enough spots to hold all the attachments where the Dyson didn't which annoyed me to no end. It also looks really fancy compared to the V6 which doesn't matter too much but I appreciate it. If you live close to a Costco, you could buy the T20 and return it if it doesn't suit!

          • @khesanh: i dont think you can return the T20 for change of mind. Check the return policy it doesn't include vacuums if used.

        • +2

          I upgraded from a V6 as well.
Much better suction, and super quiet. OMG the difference is night and day.
On the flip side, slightly heavier and the head is a bit thicker, but not a deal breaker.

      • That's expected from the long tubes on the main body - always gotta push harder for a better experience

  • Costco doesn’t say what this comes with? There are quite a few packages of the T20. Does this come with the spare battery?

Does anyone have any reviews of this vs the Dyson V11?

    • If you click the specification tab, it does say what’s in the box. However no spare battery though.
Edit, my bad it did not say. Must have been reading other place when trying to compare. Regardless good price either way.

      • If you click the specification tab

The specifications tab doesn't say anything about the package contents.
Where are you seeing this? Do I need to login as a member first?

      • Interesting, thanks! Seems like 150AW isn’t enough for me. I’ll wait on the 220AW Dyson V15.

        • +2

V15 now available at JB, good guys etc btw… ~$1400. Might be worth waiting on a V11 deal as they supposedly perform very much the same.

          • +2

            @Harby7:

as they supposedly perform very much the same

The laser show (gimmick) only available on the V15.

$1.5K for a stick vacuum cleaner!!!
Is Dyson trying to outdo Apple now?

            • @DoctorCalculon: The reviews seem to indicate that the laser is useful.
It’s also pushing out 220AW. There’s nothing close to that.

    • Does anyone know where to purchase a spare battery from seeing as it doesn’t come with an extra?

I’ve searched online everywhere and can’t seem to find one.

  • Ordered
    Thanks OP

  • 4 vacuums or 1 Dreame T20

Vacums have become the mobile phones of our times

    • Get 4. Last longer. Or one with 3 spare batteries and parts.

  • be aware that the carpet head roller can stop easily due to a defect on the wiring connection from the barrel to the motor. But they replaced it within 10 days so all good. just a small process to follow.

    • who is they? Costco or Xiaomi

      • +2

The issue he is talking about was only present for the first batch of orders that shipped to Indiegogo backers and Aliexpress/Gearbite, and was replaced directly by Dreame/Xiaomi, subsequent orders from Indiegogo and retail outlets haven't had this issue.

To be honest, it's the kind of issue that happens all the time that you would never hear about for a regular product release (just simply return to the store), but they essentially launched it on a social media platform (with considerable delays no less) so the issue was amplified.

    • I'm pretty sure that was with the original models, someone said on another T20 post that all models from November onwards are fine so I'd better hope this would be one of those.

  • Had a issue where the carpet head roller coming off.. which they (gear bite) replaced it in warranty

  • How does T20 compare to V11?

    • basically the same thing but tiny improvement

      • Spot on, that was the question

    • -6

Also avoid if you want to boycott Chinese goods. You don't have to, cause mostly everything is chinese made these days but something I try to actively consider these days.

      • +2

        where do they make Dyson?

        • +2

Looks like they moved production to Singapore and Malaysia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson_(company)#Production_moves_to_Malaysia_and_Singapore

      • +2

You must have a really high paying job if all your products aren't made in China.

      • +3

Totally agree, this is about Chinese government not people. And people who say where is Apple made, where is Dyson made etc. please be aware that’s the globally section of a supply chain. I too am reconsidering buying Chinese Branded products like Xiaomi or services like AliExpress due to unfair behaviour towards Australian businesses.

        • Let me ask you a question and you don't have to type a whole paragraph (I honestly just need a one word answer) economically which country has been the most important to Australia's growth and position now.

          • +4

            @Andrew12388: Australia.

            • @UNO: Hahaha I actually agree with you on that because I'm a true blue aussie but how about answering my original question while you're at it. I'll give credit where credit is due because we wouldn't be in the same position without a certain country buying our natural resources.

          • @Andrew12388: And I would ask you to refer this question why did they “helped” Australia grow

            • +1

@Jay Nomad: It's an economic relationship lol they buy from us so they can make the stuff to sell to the rest off the world. We can punish them by not buying their stuff but they can also in turn not buy from us.

            • @Jay Nomad: I don't condone what they do or what they don't do but it pretty ridiculous to expect them to buy our stuff while we boycott them.

              • @Andrew12388: You know what's funny, they do buy our stuff still. Think China isn't buying aussie wagyu beef? According to my supplier they're buying aussie beef from the indonesians who bought from us. That's why beef prices haven't plummeted into the ground.

            • @Jay Nomad: I mean if you really want to you can just cease all operations with China so they can't buy from us and we can't buy from them. There are countries like india who still need our resources granted we might not be getting as much as we would if we sold to China but atleast people like you achieve your goal of boycotting China.

              • -3

                @Andrew12388: @Andrew12388

To be clear, I wasn’t implying boycotting the goods made from Chinese. Both Australian and Chinese government bringing political agenda/tension to the economic trades. Unfortunately both Governments have played their cards in regulating some industry with higher import/export tax as well as banning, which I believe it is wrong.

When you mentioned in your previous comments, where Australia has grown strongly, I believe it is because Aussies worked hard and happened to have good (natural) resources available around, and happened to be located closer to some Asian countries which experienced booming for the last couple of decades (ie. Japan, China and Korea, etc), but not because any other countries helped here.

Hope it makes sense, sorry English is not my first language.

                • +1

@Jay Nomad: If you look at the trade balance between us and our biggest trading partners you will see that in 2018 we made 67 billion in trade surplus and do you know how much of that was from China? 58 billion Japan is second with 31 billion, India is 3rd with 14 billion and South Korea 4th with 12 billion. China's trade with us is better than our next 3 countries COMBINED. If that isn't a shocking stat for you then I don't know what is. Your English is fine btw.

      • +1

        Im doing so too.

So you'd be a fool to go out of your way to support their direct product brands..

Go Dyson for extra few hundred and have it made in Singapore or Malaysia, both of which love Australia

    • +4

Rich man's Dyson if you think about it.

    • lol rich men don’t do their own vacuuming. They buy the cheapest one for the help

    • Dyson is just a poor man's kirby

      Avoid

      • ok frank, when you can afford $1,200 for a Dyson V11 stick vacuum, come back to me…

        • Why would I want a dyson. I have a decade old kirby

  • +6

Got an email and brought one

I brought one to my office once and people were surprised and thought that I had changed jobs.

  • +4

Anyone know where I can purchase a spare battery?

    • +1

It's a bit like the Xiaomi G10. Can charge 2 batteries at once, but can't find anywhere that sells a second battery that looks legit.

  • +1

I use both Dyson and Xiaomi cordless vaccum. Won't go back to pay Dyson's marked up marketing fees. Give me a break. Quality noise lol

  • +2

How's the support on this after 2 years? I got a Dyson and started having issues after 2 years. Dyson support was really good and gave me some free replacements even after 2 years.

    • Good question, I think Dyson support is great, I’m sure xiaomi is not as good. I’m also glad the support is good though as I have owned many Dyson devices and all have needed repair but one. I still remember a fan that the first time I used the oscillation setting just kept on moving even when turned off.

My experience with Dyson is great service but terribly unreliable.

  • I have the T20 and highly recommend it. Works great on both hard floors and carpet without the need for a carpet head. the battery life is relatively decent as well.

    • Same, I have the t20 from indiegogo and haven’t experienced that motor head issue. “It’s A Great purchase and sucks well. I paid US$244 including shipping back in October 2020.

  • +1

I purchased one from Costco at $499 a few weeks ago. Was fuming when I saw this emailed to me, but on a live chat was told that they have a Pricing Adjustment Policy and they would provide me with a store credit of $100!

No complaints about the vacuum. My other vacuums are an old Dyson DC23 and a BigW $30 handheld no comparison there. I was considering a Dyson but the V11 at over $1,000 is overpriced.

  • How does this compare with the xiaomi shunzao z11 pro?

I was interested in getting the z11 for the hair cutting untangling device but worried it might have unintended consequences

    https://youtu.be/Hjrmy1yzmL0

    • -1

Christ how many product lines does xiaomi have for vacuums

    • I can’t answer your question, but I feel your hair pain. Every time I vacuum, at the end there’s always heaps of hair tangled up. Have to always grab scissors to and cut it to untangle it.

Edit: I use a Dyson v6 that was given to me, but it isn’t too crash hot. Really thinking of buying this T20 from Costco to try it out. Hopefully the hair situation isn’t as bad.

      • Same here, got a Dyson V6 and bought a T20 now to see how it compares.

    • apparently T20 has some sort of thing at the head to prevent hair from tangling. One of the reviews says:
"Note that the V-shaped roller is great at picking up pet and human hair without having hair wrapping itself around the roller—you know what I’m talking about. It’s a major pain to cut away from other vacuum cleaner rollers."

  • +2

    This or the A9?

    • -1

My god people really get excited for vacuums

    • Oh 200AW! If that is priced well it will be impressive. The Dyson V15 has 220AW.
I think the ~200AW will cap out these types of vacuums. More than that is hard to use (heavy to push around). It will come down to the head and filter design after the cheaper vacuums hit ~200AW.

For comparison, this T20 has 150AW.

  • +1

Would you say the T20 at $399 is good value for money compared to the Trouver Power 11 at $99. I've bought the other one but not sure if I should cancel it and buy this one instead? I've already had the Roborock S5 so the handheld one is only for occasional uses.

    • +1

I don't have Trouver Power 11 and T20, but i have Dreame V9 combo (they may be similar). My Dreame V9 has enough suction power for hard floor easily (medium power) with solf roller head and carpet (medium power) with carpet head.
T20 have more suction power, bigger battery capacity, bigger dust bin, the multi head that may better for carpet as solf roller head from Trouver Power 11 isn't good for capet (great for hard floor). T20 is better but come with 4 times the price. Trouver Power 11 could be better value if you don't need it for carpet and extra suction power.

  • Thank OP. Got one.
Hopefully shipping is not too long. They told me 1-2 weeks into VIC metro

  • Guys, I don't have Costco membership as the nearest outlet is too far away for me.
How does the online sign up work? Do I need to wait a couple of days after payment of my membership fees for my membership to be activated?

The $60 membership fee is definitely worth it if I can nab this deal.

    • You can sign up online and buy immediately. I did this last week.

    • Also I think you can cancel your membership no questions asked at any time.

      • Also I think you can cancel your membership no questions asked at any time.

But will they refund the membership fee on a pro rata basis? I don't think so. At least, I could not find anything about this with the FAQs section.

        • +1

They will refund fully, but you will also be banned for 2 years

          • @ntebis:

but you will also be banned for 2 years

No mention of such banning within their T&C's, which just states:

RETURN POLICY FOR CHANGE OF MIND*
On membership: we will refund your membership fee in full at any time for any reason if you are dissatisfied.
On merchandise for change of mind: should you change your mind for any reason regarding the purchase of any merchandise, we will refund the purchase price at any time on every product we sell with the following exceptions:

  • How does this compare to Xiaomi G10? Both seems to have the same suction power…

  • For those who have this:

Everytime I use this on carpet, it's almost like it's too strong, so it sucks up the carpet too hard, and then it stops spinning because it jams. The only way I can use this on carpet is on the low setting but then it's a bit weak. The carpet I have is fairly short rather than a thick plush carpet.

Is this a fault with the vacuum? Anyone else have this issue?

    • I have this problem with a different brand

  • Does this include the flexible hose?

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but the differences between T20 and T30 seems to be marginal at best.

    • I feel your pain - I also missed out. I thought it was available in store, and found out today this wasn’t the case.
