  • How about warranty?

    • +19

      Practically non-existent.

      I got redmi note 9t 5g,
phone does not vibrate normally, And i am stuck with that faulty phone, banggood has sh*t service, i can guarntee you that

  • Where do i enter promo code. for the life of me cant see any option on the checkout page or the initial page to enter promo code.
    Edit- NVM figured it out

    • Where is it please?

Been a while since I ordered from them with code too.

  • +5

When my current phone does, definitely getting one of these or a different variant. Heard good things about Xiaomi in general.

    • +2

Their devices, not just phones, provide insanely good value for money. And the Snapdragon versions are very developer-friendly, if you're the tinkering type.
My suggestion is to start small with a cheap model to see if you're fine with their version of Android and its quirks and features and then work your way up from there.

      • Not stock Android?

I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

        • +2

You'll find videos showcasing MIUI (their version of Android like OneUI is to Samsung). Some things they do well. Some others, not so much. I guess that applies to every software. The upside though is that you can run custom ROMs (stock Android) after a successful bootloader unlock.

        • +2

Nah not at all. It's a MIUI theme that comes up as user preference. Personally, not a fan would rather stock android but there are plenty of plus sides. In general, I stick to snapdragom variants of Xiaomi's as they are just long lasting and reliable phones.

          Plenty of XDA roms.

But Xiaomi is getting a bit expensive now. You can pick up insane budget phones locally from recent deals…

        • +1

MIUI these days is one of the best interfaces out there these days. I find it better than stock Android. Very simple to use.

    • -5

Xiaomi? They have good hardware but their software is pure trash. This isn't just true for their phones either. Have a look at the Xiaomi sub on Reddit to see all the bugs they have that shouldn't be bugs in the first place.

      • +2

I have a mi10. Had it since launch, there's been regular updates and no bugs. Only thing that bothers me is a lack of quality aftermarket ROMs.

        • Chinese firms support their newer devices by bombarding them with updates to get the devices up to an acceptable operating range. The updates crawl to a trickle once the phone passes 1 year of ownership. Xiaomi had to pull updates numerous times for one reason or another. Their biggest fiasco was the update that bricked their phones.

I hear the lack of roms are due to xiaomis doing. So you might be out of luck if you want to escape miui.

          • @Hahuh: We've been getting OS updates recently on a Note 5 and 7. I generally wait a few weeks before updating to lessen the risk of bricking.

            • @ryf: You talking about the betas?

              • @Hahuh: not betas, just offical OS releases

        • If you want custom ROMs on Xiaomi, you need to buy a popular phone. Poco series have fantastic support and lots of ROMs.
I'm currently using crDroid on my Poco X3 NFC and and it feels every bit as good as a Pixel device.

If you want decent, long term support buy a Google Pixel phone. I have a Pixel 2XL as well, and even though Google doesn't support, there is Lineage ROM which is even more featured than stock Google ROM.

          • @vrsac: I'll definitely be going Poco next. There's also crDroid for the mi10 but it's still quite buggy.

I've managed to remove a lot of the bloatware and setup afwall. I'm happy with it, it's still one of the best phones of its generation/class.

            • @[Deactivated]: No custom ROM is without bugs, at least in my experience. You are bound to run into some that can't be ignored, which then forces you to move on to another ROM. And then the cycle continues.

      • I have a RN4X a RN5H and a RN9S and yet to see any of these so called "bugs".
A lot of the posts on Reddit are from people with no idea about Android or mobile phones in general.
I have owned several other makes of phones and the thing that has sold me on Xiaomi is the all round quality at a fraction of the price of comparable phones.

        • +1

          No.

They clearly have software bugs that break regular functions. Why would I go off a sample size of of one here when people are reporting the same things on forums and subs?

          • -1

            @Hahuh: They clearly don't. I've owned many.

  • +1

need a new phone, but scare about warranty

    • +3

Don't need to worry too much about the warranty from Xiaomi. They are very reliable.

      • +2

my redmi note 9t 5g from aka Xiaomi manufacturer is not really reliable, all the phone can have issues. So yes if you are concerned about warrenty that much do not buy from banggood. i am feeling very stuck with this faulty phone

      • Yep, xiaomi phones are very reliable.

    • +5

My xiaomi note phone lasted 2 years and suddenly the phone battery just couldn’t charge anymore. But because of the low cost, not worth fixing. However my Samsung 8 is still good after 4 years. My 2c

      • +1

parts are cheap and swapping a battery is about a 10 min job. Look the battery up on ali express.

      • I have the legendary Redmi note 4 3/64 variant purchased in 2016. Still going strong mostly use it at home but battery life doesn't last long tho because I haven't changed it.

    • +4

When you’re paying $200 for a new phone why worry about warranty? If the worst happens, chuck it away& buy another

    • +1

If you don't mind paying more you can buy them here with an Oz warranty.
The bargain price comes with a trade off.

    • TCL 10L

  • Thinking about getting this for dad. Any need to stretch for the Poco X3 or will this one suffice?

    • +2

For a bit more, you're getting 2 extra GB of RAM, a marginally faster processor, a 120Hz display and NFC.
The Redmi Note 10 has an OLED display though, if that matters.

      • +1

Thanks, need to hunt for a Poco X3 deal now :P

        • +3

          get the poco

          • +2

            @[Deactivated]: I did! :)

            • @L0zBargain: Good on you. I hope you got the Pro. Flagship processor.

              • +1

                @[Deactivated]: Nope haha

It's just for dad anyway so it should be plenty.

                • +1

@L0zBargain: Sure will, it will last a lifetime. $40 is actually a lot. Spend the rest on flowers :P.

      • +1

Actually, it's only $189USD ($243.61) shipped on BG now, cheaper than this last deal

        I guess, POCO it is!

        • Or just spend the extra $30 USD and get the Poco X3 Pro?

          • +6

@aligind4h0us3: Upsell me once shame on you, upsell me twice, shame on me!

            :P

          • @aligind4h0us3: Which are the two Poco X3 phones that you guys are referring to? Is the Pro much better? I want to replace my old 2015 Samsung phone (I think it's an A3), but yeah, not sure what to get to replace it. Is there anything else in this price range to consider, or is one of the Poco's the one to get?

As for budget, it was about $200-$300. Are these Pocos pretty reliable? I'm a little worried about warranty. I assume there is none, or would you still get one year warranty?

            • @Ice009: Warranty I couldn't tell you because I don't know, however you obviously can't take it to a local store because you'd have to ship it to HK and hope they honor it. In terms of the phones you are querying - There is the older POCO X3 NFC and the predecessor the POCO X3 Pro (which is newer and much faster with a flagship chipset in it). It's currently US$219 which is about AU$289 with free shipping. I think this deal ends today though and you may have to pay for shipping afterwards and the price may or may not change.

              • @aligind4h0us3: Is there any other brands that you'd recommend in this price range, or should I have a good look at the Poco X3 Pro in your opinion? Is it possible to get the Poco X3 Pro somewhere else for a bit more money where it also comes with warranty?

Anyone have any other recommendation for something that might not be as good, but comes with warranty. Only looking for about a year warranty.

                • +1

@Ice009: If you stretched your budget out just a little bit further, I'd seriously recommend you look at the Poco F3 https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_poco_f3-10758.php

It has 5g, better screen, brightness, battery life and chipset. It's about AU$460 from Banggood but with 5% cashback it's a really good price for such a specced out phone.

Also check this youtube video out https://youtu.be/6p3U-uWUNps?t=932 Being rated the #1 value phone of 2021. Yes, it's just one man's opinion but if you check reviews all round, it speaks for itself.

              • @aligind4h0us3: By the way, is this the listing at Banggood that you were referring to? https://au.banggood.com/POCO-X3-Pro-Global-Version-Snapdrago…

I'm also in country WA, so I'd need B28 (I think it is?).

                • @Ice009: If you look at it https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_poco_x3_pro-10802.php it states it has band 28. (Banggood are notorious for having the wrong specs in their listings…)

                  4G bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41 - International

Re warranty - Honestly you are paying another $100-$150 on top just to buy it from Australia. At that cost, it seems like it's worth the risk.

                  AU$425 https://bestmobilephone.com.au/xiaomi-poco-x3-pro-6gb-128gb-…
                  AU$434 https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/eclipsetechnology-xiaomi…
                  AU$409 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402810290333?hash=item5dc95d409d…

You also get 5% cashback through Cashrewards/Shopback if you buy from Banggood so you also can factor that into the price difference…

                  • @aligind4h0us3: Thanks. I think I will get one then from Banggood when you put it that way. It's a lot cheaper and worth the risk now that you've shown me those other prices.

How do you use cashrewards (just click on the link? I did sign up for it ages ago, but haven't really learned how to use it properly).

Also, is there screen protectors/cases that you can buy for the Poco X3 Pro? Not sure where to get them from.

Edit : Just did a search on banggood and came up with this https://au.banggood.com/MOFI-for-POCO-X3-PRO-or-POCO-X3-NFC-… What sort of phone protectors do you guys use?

                    • @Ice009: It comes with a screen protector and case so no need to spend extra money.

You use cashrewards by logging in first and then clicking the link to banggood through their website, then adding the phone to your cart and purchasing that way. If it doesn't register you can lodge a manual claim after I think a week through click history. Ensure you don't have any adblockers running when you do it.

If in doubt check cashrewards instructions/FAQ.

Poco X3 is heavy but the performance is better.

  • how long would shipping take

    • +1

I just got a phone from banggood and it was 18 days from purchase to being received to Sydney.

  • +1

    Cheapest amoled?
Also is 1/2” large for camera sensor?

    • +3

Perhaps. Not really. A30 @ $60 from Kmart.

      • Is there still stock available of the A30? I think I got the last one on SA.

        • no ideA brother

  • Any deals on the Note 10 Pro? This does not have NFC.

    • agreed… wanting the note 10 pro, with NFC and slightly bigger screen, think it can be optioned with more ram too

  • Do you guys think 4gig is enough ram for a phone ? Say if you bought this phone now and used it for say 18months do you think the amount of ram would be ok ?

    • +1

At this price I'd definitely be looking for around 6 GB.

    • +5

"Nobody will ever need more than 640k of RAM"
      - Bill Gates

      • meanwhile he has accumulated $150Billion worth of wealth

        • +3

I think that'll be halved in the near future though…

      • +2

“Literally nobody will ever need more than 4GB RAM” -32 bit CPU architecture developers

    • app developers want to get the most users possible so design apps to run on a broad spec base. look at the apps you run, and how many and that will give you an idea how much ram you need, and also battery size. my phone is android 10, 3gb and i don’t run out of ram, but i just use browser, banking apps, google maps, make phone calls etc and watch some videos, listen to music …..

  • No NFC

  • Might finally be time to replace my old Galaxy s5, with phones this flash in this price range it's hard to resist!

  • +3

Hanging out for a deal on the note 10 pro version.

    • Yes so am I.

  • +3

Upgraded from my Samsung S7e to this recently. Very satisfied so far, I find the stock OS more enjoyable to use, it's snappier, extra screen space is nice despite the lower resolution, nice fingerprint sensor on the power button, good speakers and the battery life is fantastic. Comes with a 33W charger too.

Only real hiccups are no NFC (There are NFC versions on aliexpress however), and a some apparent lag when I use the camera. Nothing major though.
I got mine for $240aud and consider $200 a steal, happy to answer any questions anyone may have.

  • Guys, which xiaomi phone have got wifi calling? Any idea!

    • +1

      poco f3 does. That's all I know.

  • +1

6.43 inch AMOLED on a $200 phone? Madness

    • +2

      Madness?

      THIS. IS. OZBARGAIN!!

    • This Xiaomi is definately a good deal. But don"t forget there was the locally sold Samsung Galaxy A20

Prepaid Vodafone/Telstra mobile for under $200, even $159-$179 and some as low as $80-$119 and often cheap to unlock.

It has also has 6.4" Amoled screen ( only HD ) and was great value at the time ( won the best OzBargain budget phone by far ).

      • Yes I should have specified full 1080p AMOLED

      • +1

That had a almost useless gps didnt it?

  • +2

Love that these phones still have an IR blaster.

    • Yes, so xiaomi can keep releasing their smart appliances/tv lineup.

    • More phones should have it. I use it all the time.

      • I still use my old LG v20 as a TV remote on occasion.

  • +6

C'mon someone do me a deal for the note 10 pro and I'll cave in

  • +1

My kids still use my old note 3 as a games device - battery is still better than my iphone - i wouldn't hesitate.

    • +1

Yeah, if my old Xiaomi RN4 did not fall of top of car and broke screen ( phone was still working )

I would also still be using it as a consumption device as battery was still decent and phone was still reasonably fast.

I am now looking to get another Xiaomi, maybe this one with 6GB ram would be nice or a deal on the Note Pro would

      be even better lol.

      • +1

If my RN3pro didn't fall in a river, I'd probably still be using it. Best phone I've owned. I have a RN8T now but it's a bit underwhelming. Waiting for a deal on the RN10pro. Should've pulled the trigger on launch.

        • Haha, I should have pulled the trigger then too. Oh well, first world problems lol.

        • Also waiting for a deal on the redmi note 10 pro
