    Wow great deal

Hey OP what's the return policy for these if I find the chair doesn't suit me?

  • +3

    This or ergohuman?

    • +4

I bought Ergohuman and so far I am happy.
The head rest, which I thought wasn’t much of needs, actually is brilliant and probably something I would highly recommend. Remember, this chair is for home where you may want to stretch your legs. Or can take a nap :)

On the other side, the lumber support is not to the level I was expecting. There remains bit gap and hence may need some extra support.

For the price of $600 including delivery, that is one of the best deals I can vouch for. Would definitely recommend Ergohuman.

  • Delivery limited to metro Sydney/Melbourne area

What about the rest of Australia?

    • +1

      Wait humans live anywhere else?

    • Our products are assembled by installers which currently limits our reach. This is something we are working to rectify, but unfortunately we weren't able to have it ready in time for this promotion. Depending on where you live and the product you are looking to order, we may be able to handle as a one-off. You can contact our CS on the website for more information and I'll have them look into this tomorrow.

      • +17

Can you please clarify why customers are unable to purchase a chair without assembly by an installer (especially when a chair isn't complicated to assemble)?

$187 is beyond crazy for any delivery cost.

        • +4

Yeah I want to buy one but this requirement and the cost it creates is absolute insanity.

        • +1

Because Victorians are simple creatures who need all the help they can get.

        • -2

Thank you for your responses. Our team is reviewing our terms regarding delivery and self assembly more clear and user friendly. The original intent behind this was to ensure customers received a fully assembled and tuned product, prevent unauthorized alteration by 3rd party installers, and preventing damage from occurring during unboxing/installation. Please note that if you choose to pick up your product, you receive your product fully assembled, and there is no interruption to the warranty. Likewise any product we ship to end customers would be covered by our warranty policy as well.

Also well aware that we need more delivery options, and that is something we are working on, as well, though as mentioned we weren't able to have ready in time for this promotion.

      • +2

Are they really so technical to install?

      • Because of this silly requirement, I can't buy this even though I wanted to, oh well, their loss

  • This or Duorest Alpha

  • Not valid for the Steelcase Think 😔

  • My partner is quite short, what is the lowest seat height the gesture can go to accommodate her?

  • +29

I'd suggest staying away from Steelcase. Their quoted cost of delivery is $187 Melbourne Metro, and if you assemble yourself you'll void the warranty:

"Only our installation agent are allowed to assemble your Steelcase product. Should assembly be done by you or unauthorize installer, this would void the warranty."

    • +7

Pretty sure some of that stuff wouldn’t stand up to the ICCC

      • +75

        International Criminal Court for Chairs?

        • I think he means the *Australian Criminal Court for Chairs… (ACCC not ICCC!)

    • +1

May I know where you are reading this? I read through the warranty document and couldn't find this statement.

      • +6

        https://au.steelcase.com/policies/shipping-policy

I'm not sure if it applies to chairs? Would make sense for heavy office furniture but seems pretty insane for a chair.

        • +2

I emailed and got the same response as per their delivery options on checkout.

And frankly I agree. I was on the cusp of buying a chair from them but after reading the terms and conditions it just feels like too much of a risk.

I've been trying to find decent feedback from owners in our region to gauge what their after-sale support is like. Not much info so far…

          • +2

@salamandersushi: Same here, I was about to pick one up…not sure why they even bother to offer a pick up option then.

            • +2

@halostrike: I bought mine off the website in January and picked it up from their distribution depot in Warriewood on the Northen Beaches (Sydney). Was fully assembled already. Saved me the delivery fee.

              • +5

@easybreezy: Glad you had a positive experience. After reading on Google a reviewer's experience attempting to contact their Melbourne location for showroom appointment, only to receive no reply, I'd rather take my money elsewhere.

    • +3

Wow this really doesn't seem like it would legal in Australia for +$1000 purchase.

So if you choose the pickup option on the website, you buy a "chair" and pick up what they give you at the warehouse which is not a "chair", it is a disassembled array of parts. From there on, it is impossible to make the parts in to the thing that you paid for (a chair) without voiding warranty.

So you paid for a chair and they gave you some parts and materials (which could resemble anything because you aren't allowed to assemble it and find out), then they created a false and misleading representation: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/advertising-promotions/fal…

Also the payment page doesn't give you any warning that pickup voids warranty.

      • +2

I picked up from the warehouse. It was fully assembled. Got a txt with the date to pick it up and then the day before a follow-up phonecall to say they what time theyll have it ready allowing for the asssemby.

        • +2

Well I wonder why they even have that clause, then.

Also the payment page is misleading. It says the delivery comes "Complete with assembly, installation, & rubbish removal". But the self pickup option doesn't include anything.

    • +3

Will I void the warranty if I sit in the chair. Afraid that only the agent may sit in it.

      • -4

Haha!! Bet this is a Chinese company unaware of ACCC

    • +1

I was about to order this chair earlier before the sale but decided to get the Ergohuman instead partially because it's ridiculous that your chair can't be assembled by you otherwise you would void the warranty.

This makes the price deceptive as you think the chair costs X amount but in reality you have up add 100-200 on top just for someone else to assemble it.

It's a chair and not brain surgery. Almost everything is flat packed these days and none of them say your warranty is voided if you put it together yourself.

I purchased my Gesture from arkienvironments, who are a Steelcase dealer and it wasn't preassembled. Does that mean I don't have the lifetime warranty now? if so that's insane. It was literally 3 parts, and took 5 minutes.

  • Where can I get from WA?!!

  • -1

More than most of the Herman Miller line.

  • How does the gesture compare to the leap 2?

    • +1

Most people still rate the leap more comfortable.
I actually don't know why the gesture is pricier. Apartfrom the more adjustable arms, the leap is generally ergonomically superior.

      • Yeah when I was shopping a few years back I had the opportunity to sit in both. Went for the leap, couldn't see why the Gesture was more expensive.

Bought another Leap for the miss, no complain of product

    • +1

      I own both.

Bought a gesture for work 3 years ago, and have a leap for home which i purchased last year.

For me, leap hands down is better.

  • Does anyone have first hand experience with Aeron and Leap/Gesture? Wondering how they compare. I'm pretty set on an Aeron but I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that I probably wont be able to get it with any kind of discounts.

    • Aeron used to get discounted $500 twice a year like clockwork through living edge, has that changed since covid?

      • Searched OzB and the last deal I've seen was in 2018.. do you recall if it was a site-wide thing or aeron specific discount?

        • I remember noticing it on aerons

          • @bono: Ah.. I hope they run one this year, will be watching out all throughout June.

    • +1

Never tried Aeron. I love my Leap v2. Great chair. The only thing missing is a forward tilt on the front chair adjustment. I also wish maybe I got the head rest version so I can recline and relax.

I have tried the Haworth Zody chair at work which is in a similar price range to the Leap v2 but the Leap v2 is miles better in my opinion.

  • Did they remove the configuration tool? Seems like very limited colours, materials, etc.

  • +5

Word of warning that the Gesture on sale is not fitted with the adjustable lumbar support.

    • +1

I think they should re-design their website to make the presence or lack of lumbar support for a particular product super duper prevalent (rather than small text on the page). For people purchasing +$1k chairs, lumbar is a huge factor.

I bought the leap v2 from the other deal and only by random chance did I afterwards find out it had lumbar support. If it didn't, I would be very annoyed.

    • I just picked mine up and it does come with the adjustable lumbar support despite it not being specified.

      • -2

Depends on which one you buy.

  • Was tempted to get Steelcase, but couldn't decide between this and Humanscale Freedom. They're similar price points, but unsure of which way to go so basically gave up. Anyone else tried the Freedom and had experience with steelcase?

  • Hey OP, any chance of the medley grey brown series 1 coming back before end of sale?

    • Hello,

We are expecting more in stock in the next couple weeks, so have put it back online so people can order during the deal period. However, due to high demand, delivery/pickup times may be delayed. If you order, our fulfillment team will contact you to arrange delivery/pickup once your order is ready.

  • Love in Metro Brisbane. What a shame!

  • Can't find a SWL … Is it suitable for 180 kg ….?

  • +4

I'd go for a herman miller at this price range and don't have to bother with their stupid delivery cost and warranty

  • +1

I have a Leap v1 which is old, bought used on gumtree and has no lumbar, and a well used, squashed seat padding with five+ years of farts.

I have wanted a Gesture for a long time and would buy this immediately if there was a config tool which included same options as USA or at least the US$35 lumbar option. Crazy they are importing a standard chair with no lumbar. And if course no stupid installation cost!

Feels like when you see an overseas model of the car you want has better engine or options.

  • Series 1 (With Arms)- Was $628.00, Now $471.00

    OOS 😔

  • I bought a couple of Gestures with articulating arms and lumbar adjustment 4 years ago and paid for $2020 the pair. Still perfect to this day with daily use and I expect them to last many more years. The Aeron base model at the time with the black legs were 1600. I took a punt with the Gesture and I can't fault them, very comfortable with 8hr + use a day.

The whole purchasing experience could have been a lot better like with an actual store front where you can sit in the actual chair. I picked them up assembled from a warehouse in Brookvale so at least it was close by for me.

  • i'm about 173cm and weigh about 90Kg.

Can anybody share if this chair is a good fit for me? I was also considering Aeron Size B, and looking into Gesture there is only 1 size for this chair?
Anywhere where i can find out if this chair will fit well for me?

OP any delivery during lockdown for Melbournians?

  • So i just realised

    1. these don't have adjustable Lumbar support?
    2. these don't have headrest?

Would be great if OP or others can confirm this.

Nearly got misled by the video!

  • Why no Leap on sale?

    • 20% off storewide from today.

  • When there will be another sale on? Keen to buy one.
