I have a little stand which charges my phone, watch and AirPods.

I don’t know what sort of philistine would choose to wear a watch in bed.

FOMO much? if its not for you, its not for you and move on…

          • @meong: Maybe I’ve just helped someone not make a decision based on FOMO. This site really encourages people to make snap decisions:
“OMG 100+ upvotes, this is a bargain”.

I’ve just logged into Garmin Connect. I’ve got activities dating back to 2009.
I like Garmin devices, and have wanted to get a watch to track my running (my bikes already have Garmin Edge’s).

But at $600+ (Hell, $1200 RRP), these watches are really taking the p!ss.

I can use my watch to take Microsoft Teams calls while hanging out the washing. This Garmin watch for double the cost, can count pushups. Amazing.

            • @seedyrom: I currently own a Forerunner 235 and it has been adequate for cycling. I think any of the other sub-$500 Garmin watches would have been adequate for cycling.

Again it comes to what you actually need… I reckon even for me Fenix 6 is too much but i wanna upgrade to a bigger screen and this is best value for me now with the same battery performance.

If you hike, you'll definitely prefer the Garmin watches over the Apple watch… Like I said, you don't need it… Move on. You only need Garmin Edge for cycling instead of a watch.

How much is an Apple watch Sapphire btw?

@meong: I think people overthink smartwatch screens.

This is a 4 year old aluminium Apple Watch.

It ain’t no beauty contest winner. But … that phone goes in the pool, the beach, through bush trails, running, spray painting, concreting and is used in underground mining.
The bulk of scratches have come from being inside a concrete mixer and scraped against the side. It’s been covered in concrete dust to the point the dial couldn’t be pushed in … but a simple hose made it good as new. I’d welcome any sapphire screen to the concrete mixer challenge.
When the display is on, you don’t even see them.

I think sapphire is overrated and NO ONE is looking at your watch close enough to see any scratches, nor do they care. In fact, all anyone thinks when they see a non-Apple Watch or set of wireless ear buds is “pfft, it’s not Apple”.

I’ve been surprised this watch has lasted 4 years from a electronic and battery point of view, and it certainly will reach an expiry date at some point.

If you buy a real watch, by all means get “scratch proof” glass. But to be a prima donna about an electronic watch face seems to be status inspired.

@seedyrom: thats a bit of unfair comparison in general… Apple Watch 6 expensive as well especially the Sapphire edition, why didnt you even mention that?

Scratches are real for sportswatches. I got scratches on my Forerunner due to mountain biking and even on my G-Shock cause i wore while playing soccer…

what you just described strongly highlighted how you are not really the demographics for Garmin watches… not everything in OzBargain revolves around you, you know :-)

            • @seedyrom: I sold my Garmin Edge 520 once I got my Forerunner 935, no real need for two devices that can do exactly the same thing.

I agree the RRP is a rip off ($1299 pfft), hence why I, and most people it seems, think this price is worth it and about the right ball park.

  • Are you sure the deal is until end of June?

    • thats what the sales staff said when I asked him - its EOFY special until 30th of June 2021.

Got JB to price match amazon at $584, then with a few CC rewards JB gift cards and Suncorp discounted JB cards I'm only $412 out of pocket. Great bargain, thanks OP, wanted one of these for a while but couldn't justify the price.

    • I can't find it for that price on Amazon?

      • yep its sold out on amazon for that price

        • Damn must have missed that, I bought it on Amazon on Thursday for 630 after cashback

  • If I'd gone to my favourite JB store I think I may have got price match. JB in Westfield are a different breed unfortunately.

    • I got them to match over the phone, it was too easy.

  • Rebel has 20% cashback today so equates to around $520 (after cashback).

  • what are you all using it for? hiking? running? media?

    • running, hiking and HIIT workouts for me

  • Great watches, i have the Fenix 5x and absolutely love it, have never had any issues. Saphire is a must IMO. I would love to upgrade to this watch but the 5x is that good i dont really have a need to.

Got it for $599 at JB Hi-Fi Jamisontown

    • Good job👍

    • How did you manage that?

      • +1

It also depends on store rep. I gave him reference of Rebel price (same as JB Hi-fi) plus cash rewards and he was happy to do it for $599

  • My series 3 Apple watch is due for an upgrade (cracked screen but still functional, some touch function partially working).

Obvious choice is a series 6 watch (44mm), currently same price as this Fenix 6.

I like the ruggedness and battery life of the Garmin, but need to get ready it's not going to work well with my iPhone.

    Decisions…

    • +1

I got mine yesterday with the extra 5% off for JB's wicked wednesday promo coupon. So far it has worked well with my iPhone X.

My kids vivofit jr 2 app works well with my wife's iPhone 11.

      • What’s your reason(s) not going with Apple Watch? :)

Amazon has stock again for $584, rebel allowed price match

  • The naming is quite confusing.

It's not immediately obvious that Fenix 6 Sapphire is Fenix 6 Pro with sapphire glass.

Especially now the sapphire is on sale, Pro costs more, makes it look like Pro is a step above the Sapphire, which is not true.

They should just call it Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire, "pro" to indicate the inclusion of premium features.

  • Waiting for the 6S saphire to go on sale

It's back in stock on Amazon for $584:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07X82QK9L

    • I'd post a new bargain. But I suspect it will sell out in a flash… Opinions?

      • yeah, leave it for those who've been watching.

    • Was it out of stock after 03/Jun?

Got it price matched at JB, all good. Thanks to @Cam4142 for mentioning it on 03/Jun and @JaeTee for the link.

I didn't know about the Amazon price but have read about JB can do better than $649. Called around and visited a JB store, one offered a $4 discount, the rest refused to budge.

But then they have no problem price matching Amazon when I mentioned they have it for 10% less.
