yup. why in the world would you get this now?

      • If you need to run OSX and Windows. Or, OSX and a VMs.

        • I never understood that use case though, who does that frequently? (The former, not the latter. VMs are very useful).

          • @Zorlin: Main OS is OSX and need Windows for something particular (I know of few applications that require Windows). Ideal is to have everything on one OS but what happens if the main OS is OSX? So when there is a need for a particular application that only runs on Windows then move everything to Windows because of one application, including buying all the other software again if needed? An alternative is to have two computers. Carrying 2 laptops around is cumbersome for those who need a lot of mobility. Being only able to do particular type of work on a laptop and other type of work on a desktop is inconvenient. Anyway, its not super common to run both OS but I've done it before to run some Windows only programs.

            • @g1: Sure, but I'd much rather change my workflow a little bit. I feel like it was a huge issue 10 years ago but with how much stuff is cross-platform to the point where most things probably even run on Linux now, having to literally reboot every time I need to access an app that doesn't work on my current OS just seems like more pain than finding an alternative…

To each their own, I'm really not trying to say it doesn't happen, just that I don't get it. And I would like to get it!

(EDIT: Part of it might be that nearly everything I use or make is open source, so I don't deal with paid apps much, that does change the landscape a fair bit)

  • Why didn't this one get the M1 chip? Will the next model come with Apple Silicon?

    • They will start putting the Apple silicon in 14” and 16” very soon. They will likely announce it at the WWDC next week. I expect huge demand in the new ones

    • They started with the lower range units. Rumours are due to the limitation of maxing out the ram general cpu power

  • While this is an Awesome laptop (I have this same one but bought 12 months ago for $3200), I agree that there is no way I would invest in a new one now, so close to potential M1X/M2 etc variant being released by Apple.

Definitely worth waiting a few more weeks unless you desperately need the Windows / OSX combo.

    • If someone needs to run windows they may as well get a second laptop why would you stuff up the MacBook with a windows boot lol

why would you stuff up the MacBook with a windows boot lol

What are you talking about? How does booting Windows on an Intel MacBook "stuff up the MacBook"?

you will get negged by Windows drones, but i agree with you.

get a $200 lenovo for your windows, thats the full experience ha ha ha

Agree. Just get a cheap windows laptop to run those windows app and keep the MacBook Pro for other things like editing. Video. Office.

  • Core i7 2.6GHz

    🤣

  • Lol

  • What even is CTO?

    • Maybe CTO need a dGpu to play fps games in the office?

  • 10% off Apple CTO MacBook 16" i7/16GB/5300M/512GB - Space Grey ($3418.50) + Free Shipping

I think Op's title is wrong. The link shows it being a 1TB SSD, which makes sense as the standard i7 16in is 512GB. Therefore this is a CTO. Not a bad price for a 16in 1TB Macbook Pro though. When a new one comes out with M1 and Apple keeps the same RRP as the current range, it's likely be around $4.1K mark if you CTO for 1TB.
Having said that, Officeworks has also reduced their prices as well, for 80 bucks more you'd get more powerful CPU and GPU with the MacBook Pro 2019 16" Core i9 1TB

    • Yes wasn’t the officeworks one previously 4199. The 16gb. 1tb. I9 model.

      • Yep I believe that's the RRP until recently. People used to post bargains whenever it dropped below $4K.

  • Note the officeworks one has a better cpu (8 cores), gpu (5500m) and a less shitty return policy for $80 more.
