Not quite the lowest they've been, but they've dropped again.

Good closed-back cans, apparently. I just grabbed a set for recording (can't use the openbacks for that, obviously) and mixing comparisons rather than the M50x I was going to get.

They've been posted here a few times, and there's some good discussion around them in previous threads, well worth a read.

The camels show the price hops around a bit.

That's the Amazon AU price. US is higher, UK is a few bucks lower.

No delivery charge for local stock.

I’ve now had these for a few months. Initially I was underwhelmed but now I have swapped out the stock pads and worked out how I like the run them they are actually pretty good.

Changing the pads fixed the head tilt sound change issue and running them from a fiio dac with the bass boost switch on fills out the lower end (especially at lower volumes) more to my preference.

At this price they are a pretty good entry in to better sound.

    • Which pads did you go to?

    • I have stock pads running Schiit stack and they're great. I have a large head and wear glasses and these are perfect cans.

I'll replace the pads once they wear out. Any links on the pads you used to replace?

      • Do you adjust the bass at all on your stack when using them?

        • Not at all. Have the amp volume at around half way with high gain on. The rest of the volume is software adjusted per app.

    • These handle eq very well. I run mine of an es100 and cranking the 30hz region by +12db doesn't even distort them

    Are these Dankpods approved?

  • How do these compare to the Beyerdynamic DT770 which are pretty much stock standard for guitarists that use multi-effect pedals at home through headphones. Any help most welcome.

    • +1

They're a flatter frequency response, with a little less in the upper treble, but elsewhere would be more detailed with more natural timbre. DT770 has more of a low-to-mid bass bloom, with a dip as it rolls into the mids, making it more of a V or U shaped signature overall.

Lighter build, narrower soundstage, probably about even in terms of imaging. I would hazard a guess that the Beyers isolate better, but not enormously so. Comfort about equal, maybe leaning towards the K371.

K371 is much easier to drive compared to the DT770 you'd want to target, and arguably more resolving overall. If you're looking for tonal and timbral accuracy, I think the K371 is a better choice.

If you're looking beyond this and don't need the isolation, I would recommend the Sennheiser HD 6XX at $250-$270, and the Audio Technica ATH-R70X at $350-$380. After that, closed back wise it might be the Audeze Penrose @ $400, maybe the Beyer x Drop DT177X GO @ $600, which is a much more toned down Beyer headphone compared to their house sound (famous for bass bloom to cover the 5-8kHz peaks).

Currently $167.67 which is the lowest Amazon AU price ever.

    • I mean you can update the title to reflect that if you like. :P

What's a little disappointing is that you could sometimes get these from other US retailers for USD $100 (ex GST, or $75 unofficially via one outlet), and right now they're going for under $125 AUD on Amazon UK once you adjust for tax (or $135 if you don't).

No idea why we get stung with a 20% to 30% premium.

      • It's close enough, even for here, and it's now fallen so far down the list no real point :-D

No idea why we get stung with a 20% to 30% premium.

        Australia tax

        • Nah, this is something else. Some Amazon UK deals get passed through with a pre-tax price that has GST attached, some have VAT attached, then some have enormous premiums.

Could be anything from obscure warehouse shipping costs, through to supplier agreements with AKG's Australian supplier.

    $162.26 currently :-D

It went down to $152 I think it was this morning.

Mine arrived today, so I'll try them tonight or tomorrow, see how they go. I like the three cables it comes with, the short one is awesome.

        • Just checked: $154. Damn!

          • @jasswolf: IKR? Wish I'd waited :-D

            • +1

@mickeyjuiceman: I'll be waiting for that (or cheaper) with a cashback-fuelled sale. EOFY might trigger it, otherwise Black Friday.

Enjoy the tuning, it's lovely! :)

              • @jasswolf: Both Cashback sites reduced the category to 0% sadly, we'll have to wait until it comes back

                • +1

@nismo: They tend to go sitewide for the big sales.

  • I saw the camel alert for the $154 this morning, but by the time I clicked through (within 30 or so mins) it had reverted up to $180 something, so close!

  • Back down to $159.92

  • Yeah, the price is all over the shop. On the upside, I do like mine for mixing on and for monitoring guitar so far. Not tried monitoring the bass yet.
