      Thanks, updated.

hm M5 3-pack was as low as $175 last month
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619960

    • That is a good price. Waiting for some m9s to go in sale

  • Do these need a hub? Or will they work with my existing wireless router?

    • +1

They won't synch with the existing wifi.
They can hang off its Ethernet output of direct from an NBN box which is usually the correct way.

  • Gotcha. Makes sense they need to be hard wired. Thanks.

    • Most of the time you hard wire Deco one to a VDSL2 modem or nbn connection box. Deco two communicates by Wi-Fi and only requires power. Hard wiring Deco one and Deco two together is optional.

You can use the router you have now with the Wi-Fi off and configure the Deco as a dumb Wi-Fi access point. What is your existing router and nbn type?

      • Oh ok. NBN HFC with Telstra Smart Hub 2. Maybe a WiFi booster is more suitable? WiFi is not to bad at the front of the house, was just exploring options to improve.

        Thanks for your help.

        • Wi-Fi boosters are a no no. Do you use the Telstra landline or only mobile to make phone calls?

          • @Twix: No land line mate. Just mobiles.

            • @maxwellish: The Deco is an OzBargain favourite. Deco or any similar mesh system would do the trick. Hard wire Deco one to the nbn connection box and place Deco two near the other end of your home.

Put the Telstra modem away for a rainy day.

              • @Twix: Sounds like you know your stuff. So I plug Deco 1 into modem via Ethernet. Problem is I have numerous devices plugged into the router via Ethernet.

Can I plug the Deco 1 into the router? Not the modem?

                • @maxwellish: You can plug the Deco into the router but you might run into trouble if you don't configure the Deco as the access point. This restricts the settings you can use from the Deco and you can find the settings on TP-Link FAQ.

To have access to all the Deco settings I'd purchase a Gigabit switch. These can add anywhere from 4 to 52 Ethernet ports. The setup for that is nbn connection box to Deco, plug in the switch to the Deco and devices into the switch.

  • Annoyingly i need 1 unit, if anyone wants to split a 2 or a unit from a 3 pack in Melb let me know.

  • Will these work for HFC NBN? or will I have to go connection box > modem > Deco

    • +1

Deco is compatible with all nbn types.

HFC = nbn connection box + Deco.

  • Now $186
