You took the words right out of my mouth.
Has recondition mode and motorbike/ small battery mode. Awesome bit of kit.

This was $73.34 the night before, after 20% off

    • Damn! missed opportunity right there :(
      Now you owe me $7.33

    • This Kmart charger is probably good for a small low capacity battery. But will take a LONG time for a good high capacity battery.

  • Can this charge LiFePO4 batteries

    • +1

No, lead acid battery only (including agm)

    • If your LiFEPO4 has a BMS, then look at the Noco G7200. The newer Noco Genius 10 is a bit weird with LiFEPO4.

      • Just got the Noco Genius 10. What does it do that's weird with LiFEPO4? Thanks..

      • Thank you for showing me/us this, quite the device with a bit more utility than the usual battery chargers.

    Great price..

Dammit.. paid $111 a couple of months ago after waiting ages for it to come on sale.

      Hello again!

I paid $89 for the CTEK MXS5.0T back in August 2014. Amazing how the prices have gone up for this product.

      • +1

I didn't even realise that it's out been out that long..

Unfortunately when you need/want something, it's never on sale.. It will only go on sale after you purchased it. It's not coincidence, it's fact! lol

Thanks op, was just looking for a maintenance charger (not a float model) and this model seems highly recommended on here.

I've got an 07 liberty which usually stays garaged but let out the other night and wouldn't crank over, didn't seem to like the cold. I've heard they are pretty hard on batteries and small trips take a fair bit out without putting much back in. The battery is a yausa 1.4y old, however can only physically fit a Japanese size battery in (430 CCA). Sounds worthwhile to throw the charger on once a week.

    • When the alt is on the way out, find an uprated aftermarket one, aim for 2x or close as you can to that. If you can't find one, get a new alt and have it uprated (don't rebuild your old one).

      • So you think the alternator is almost done? Didn't test anything further than the battery yet, was thinking spark plugs, alt or starter motor.
Still wouldn't hurt connecting this maintenance charger if I'm not using the car that often.
        Cheers,

        • Just buy a battery analyser.

The yellow Autel one on eBay with load testing functionality. They also test your charging system and alternator. It's very easy to check most of these things with a voltmeter/multimeter but the testers make things super easy.

If you're on the original alternator, it could die before 200k or last until you junk the car, it really depends.

          • @Oofy Doofy: Done about 167,000 km.

May look into that - Went past battery world and they said the battery is fine (should be, 14 months old). Measured about 390 out of 430 CCA and that could be brought up to more like 400 or so with topping up the battery.

It was just that time when it was in the cold that didn't start, will wait for it to die before replacing instead of throwing money at it I guess, but good idea to get a higher rated alt when the time comes.

            Cheers,

  • Saved the batteries for 3 cars is my household during Victoria's lockdown last year. Highly recommended!

  • I was considering this and I know that the majority of people on reviews sites go on to complain rather than compliment but the longevity of these doesn't seem too good if most of these owners are to believed?

  • Does anyone know the differences between the T and the non-T models?

    • CTEK MXS5.0T

    • CTEK MXS 5.0

I have the T version, and as far as I can see it just includes a carry pouch.

This is in the description on the link you provided but the regular MSX5.0 has that anyway.

THE CTEK 5.0T , HAS NO MARKINGS AS "5.0T" NOR DOES THE BOX , THERE IS NO GENUINE CTEK CHARGER WITH "5.0T" ON IT THE "T" IS USED IN SOME OF THE MARKETING INFORMATION , AND "T" BEING FOR TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION WHICH THIS UNIT HAS

  • damn, bought this the other week at repco for 100 bucks. Nice little charger.

  • Can anyone confirm if this one does trickle charging? It mentions trickle charging in the description. But there's another CTEK XS 0.8 "Trickle charger" in the name where as this one is just "charger". So confusing.

      Got mine delivered pretty quick
surely it does, with 8 steps. They don't use that terminology though

      • Cheers, I'm getting it then

        • I mean don't quote be but it's highly praised on here just check the specs/write up but haven't heard many bad reviews and probably same or better than most at the auto shops for more
