Citi Rewards Credit Card: 100,000 Flybuys Bonus (Worth $500) with $3,000 Spend in 90 Days, First Year Annual Fee $49

260

Similar to the HSBC platinum deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/626191); however I noticed that some have complained that HSBC are a pain to bank with, so this magically appeared in my Facebook ads… :)

Bottom line - $49 fee for a $500 reward. Unclear if existing Citibank customers (example Coles Card underwritten by Citibank can avail this deal)

(most of the below is copy paste, somebody who can structure the details better feel free to edit)

With the Citi Rewards credit card, you can make the most of both Flybuys and the Citibank rewards program. Collect both Flybuys points and Citi reward Points when you shop at a Flybuys partner store,4 scan your Flybuys card and pay with your Citi Rewards credit card. When not shopping at a Flybuys partner store, earn Citi reward Points on Eligible Transactions5 on your Citi credit card and turn them into Flybuys points.4

What’s more, you can enjoy other ongoing benefits, such as Complimentary Insurances,6 access to the Citibank Dining Program7 and the ability to break big expenses into smaller, fixed monthly repayments with Citi Instalment Plans.3 Plus, save with a reduced annual fee of just $49 in your first year, reverting to $149 in subsequent years.8

Score Flybuys bonus points
Score 100,000 Flybuys bonus points when you apply for a Citi Rewards credit card and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases within 90 days from approval.1 That's redeemable for $500 Flybuys dollars which you can use at participating Flybuys retail partners to splurge on fashion, tech or money off your shop.2

  • Does anyone know if there is a waiting period if I have one rewards card with them only closed a few months ago?

    • +1

      6 months.

      • where does it say that in the terms and conditions?

        • I had called them and asked about it.

          • @kehuehue: oh I just applied and got provisional approval but I had the rewards card closed in April this year. I better ring and ask them if I can still get the points.

            • @frozzer: Hopefully this is just misinformation from the call centre. The terms and conditions of the offer don't include a waiting period so I'll be disputing if I don't receive my 100,000 Flybuys points in October.

              • @gotz: Me too!! The terms and condition doesn't exceed BPay payments too. I did call about that and also government charges like council rates, they said you don't get rewards points for it but it is considered as an eligible spend and would form part of the $3000 spend that is required to get the flybuy points.

                • @frozzer: Can confirm that there is no waiting period. I had a previous Citi rewards card closed on 29 April. Applied for a new card via this offer on 29 July. Met minimum spend on 7 August and received the email offering my bonus Flybuys points today (25 August).

                  • @gotz: oh thats great. I only met my spend on 23 August, so hopefully i'll receive the email requesting my flybuys details soon.

I think the ANZ deal is better. Worth $540 (in gift cards - not tied to Coles), no fees, $1500 spend.

    • +1

true that, but always useful for people to have choices…Maybe they already have an ANZ card like I do…

      • +1

        Fair enough.

Every time I see a Citi deal it reminds of the fee free for life card that I didn’t meet the minimum salary requirement for.

    • +2

Do not feel too bad - I have the citi gold -> platinium -> signature card (fee free for life) and I never use it much anymore.

The rewards have been cut so much since its introduction (with monthly caps). You are probably just better off just cycling through other cards.

It is honestly more of a hindrance now with its high minimum credit limit. I feel it likely affects me when applying for other cards. I keep it around because it is fee-free for life.

  • I have and existing Citbank Rewards Visa but see no where I can link Flybuys to. Is this for new cards only?

    • +1

This one is specific for flybuys in that once you meet the required spend, an email get sent out to input in your flybuys number.

Shame they don't support Google Pay. Instant turnoff for me.

    • Further to that, Citi will get sold soon so there's no chance they'll have that unless the new buyer is willing to do so, and that will take ages.

    • they do support Samsung Pay, that’s a bonus for me and between Citibank and AMEX, I have most covered.

  • Citibank must be looking to boost their numbers in anticipation of finding a buyer; Citi to pursue exit of its consumer business in Australia

I hope the new owner has a better customer service offering. Their service on the Coles credit cards has been shocking IME.

      • +1

They refused to up my Coles credit card limit from $3000 to $5000 even after providing them loads of docs. When it was with Latitude finance I had a limit of $15000 with the same card LOL.

I had my limit decreased years ago when i bought some property.

Their customer service sucks so bad.

        I miss Latitude Finance.

      • They are incredibly bureaucratic and hopeless. In my experience, only HSBC is worse.

        • Coles gave me 25k with no history … they cant be that bureaucratic and hopeless.

          • +1

@SithVicious: Just wait until you have an issue.

I've had to raise several disputed transactions and they sit on these for months (literally). Got the AFCA involved in the last two (from February) and finally got it resolved this week.

Same thing with 28Degrees was sorted in 2 weeks.

  • Remember there is also a Citi deal for 100 000 velocity points until the end of the month. May be better or worse than this deal depending on what you need.

  • I had kogan card closed just last week, can i apply for this card?

    • That got nothing to do with this card although they both supplied by Citi. So you can.

  • "The Flybuys points will be credited to your Flybuys account within 6 weeks from the date we receive your Flybuys membership number. Your Citi Rewards Card must remain open and in good standing to receive the Flybuys points. If you do not provide us with your Flybuys membership number within 8 weeks from us first requesting it, we reserve the right to credit the equivalent amount of Citi reward Points to your Citi Rewards Card."

Could be a good way to get the equivalent flybuys paid back to your card ?

  • Anyone has applied recently? How long does it take for approval and receiving the card? Just submitted my application

    • +1

I applied on 04/06 and received approval confirmation email on 07/06 and card arrived on 11/06, I am in Vic, hope this helps.

      • Thanks, got approval this afternoon. That's a very quick turnaround

      • Similar, applied, accepted next day, card arrived today

  • Hmmm this citi credit card has a 3.4% international transaction fee for overseas purchases. Whereas the Citibank debit card doesn’t. Hard to find a credit card with no international fees with a generous sign-on bonus.

Just received the email asking me to link the flybuys number for the 100k points.

    • Nice. How long you have to wait after reached the spending requirement?

      • This time around was very quick, met the criteria on 08/07/2021 and got the email on 20/07/2021.

        • How long did it take for points to appear on the Flybuys?

          • @TheMills: I've submitted my Fb number to Citibank exactly 1 week ago and still nothing in my Fb account.

            • @timhn: @timhn I finally got the points on 28Aug. The first email to link my Flybuys on 11Aug. was erroring out. I then got another email after a complaint after a week. Its gone missing from my mailbox.

              • +1

@TheMills: Just got the points yesterday - exactly 2 wks after put in the claim.

  • Just for FYI: Anyone taking advantage of the balance transfer at 1% one-time fee and 0% there after for X months, the bank will charge interest on any retail spending on the card from day one, basically the 55 day interest free period for retail spending is not valid..

Apparently, they have this as one of the T&C for balance transfer that I over looked. I never imagined such a T&C could be enforced as it's against the principal of Credit card.. May be I still have to learn more about credit cards.

Just felt like sharing with the community for people like me..

  • Seems the deal is back, with a new expiry of April 2022.

    • Cool. May look into this before Christmas for my partner.

  • Nice OP so thanks,.. though was gonna buy something from Target in person, reason being, well can the Flybuys cash credit (not points) be used online some how? or only through a POS terminal at a Target store? Never bothered looking into it, why I'm asking so has anyway tried Flybuys cash online? 👍😁
