I would think their system allocates stock while processing payments - to make sure they never end up with your money in their account and out of stock at the same time.
With all the server error lots of people (including me) were kicked out at that payment processing stage.
After a few minutes the server releases the items and they become available again.
All just speculation, but if I had to write POS software that's what it would do…
Seems more likely to me that they had stock available at 7PM, and another batch of stock available at 7:30PM.

i'm not being lazy… every comment I make has a neg next to it ( ie once you neg a deal then every time you make a comment the "neg vote" will be next to your name)- this was not the first comment I made.
surely you dont expect me to explain my neg after every comment on the same deal…You do know other users can tell which comments you made before you voted neg right?

Hey guys… I have tried at 7:00PM exactly and it took me to check out for three times but was not successfully able to place the order. I have tried few minutes back and it worked. I saw the deal and it was expired here but tried again and it went through successfully…hmm surprising…paid via paypal.

vemuri, double check your 'My Account' > 'My Orders' and just make sure you do not have 4 cameras there. It happened to me and I thought my order did not go through but it did.
Did you manage to go to check out? After i put my cc details, the page just said my basket is empty, but no confirmation email. My account-order details also nil. Did you end up buying 1 or 4? Interested to buy 1 if you got double.

it was 7pm east coast day light saving time. I went to their site 6pm Brisbane time and got one. Now I need to get rid of the one I bought from Kogan 2 weeks ago.
i went to jb hifi at 6:30 showed them the deal on my phone, they were shocked actually at first but were kool enough to accept a print screen of that and get me a price match also the sales dude reduced the 6 dollars so i got it for $690 right then and there :D. would love to post the receipt but dont have a scanner. i hope a pic is enough. also how do you upload pics on this site

But seriously, to the people saying they had low stock, dick smith sent out an email about the sale, ozbargain is probably just a small percentage of people who bought a camera. I told my housemate to get it long before I saw it posted on here and managed to snag one.

guys any of you got charged credit card when you process CC page timed out?
I did not get a receipt or purchase confirmation. It bombed out when processing CC, I didn't receive any email or receipt didn't get the goods.

The CSR told me they sold 200 units only. I would expect it would be more than that. Maybe he was guessing only? The camera probably will be dispatched on Monday.My response is they have limited stock and are sourcing more stock from other warehouses

I had the problem last night when processing my CC detail, which failed on me at the last stage. Sent them an email and then got a phone call around 3:30pm today.
Got one ordered at 3:40pm over the phone for the sale price.
Really happy now, after I missed out on the deal due to system crashing.

Incidentally, I received an invoice for my order, and the email said it's packed and awaiting collection, so I figure it'll be shipped on Monday and should arrive on Tuesday. Unfortunately we're going to a wedding tomorrow so we won't have it for that, but I can't exactly complain about that :)

Thats lucky Vooz .. same thing happened to me twice on thurs evening. I rang on friday & a call centre person said they were still honoring the deal. but I needed to provide ref no. which I did not have on me so I said I would call back monday. Today she calls & says they have no more stock so can't do anything. I am sooo mad. I sent an email.. esp as the same camera is avail at full price on the webpage!! But I have not received any reply!

thats pretty cool, site crashed me on last night during checkout, i sent a complaint in writing (well, email) and got confirmation about 10 minutes ago that they created an order for me and it will be shipped out on Monday.
I got a tax invoice an hour ago and the order status has now changed to 'dispatched'. No tracking number yet. But with a bit of luck it should be delivered on Monday…
