      playstation vita killed this

Touch-based gaming has its place, but sometimes you just can't beat the tactile feedback of a controller in hand.

      not true Bruce
have your opinion, but I don't think it is correct at all

Apple TV, or Googles Android gaming machine / network system will transform the console market place. Within 5 years I'd say.

    • It is interesting how mobile phones have completely killed hand held consoles, I wonder how long till tables kill traditional consoles (or if)?

The 3DS is the fastest selling video game console in Australian history. Consoles aren't going anywhere any time soon.

$119 for first gen PSP is a bit too much IMHO. Some stores sell PSP3002 for around $100. Plus PSP Vita is out already.

    • Actually this is the latest PSP, though a stripped down budget version (no wifi).

      • +1

        that is crap price then

        • yeah I never said it was good price just pointing out the actual model.

      • +1

Latest first generation PSP, the Vita is out elsewhere and will be out here soon.

  • -1

PSP E1002 is NOT a first generation PSP, its the latest version available. It has had wifi removed (though it wasn't used much). VITA is launching on 23 FEB in Australia.

    • Sorry, my bad. I never knew such a version ever existed :-S

    • -3

It IS the first gen. A redesign does not constitute a new generation. Thats like saying the PS3 Slim is a different generation to the launch PS3. It's just a redesign of the same generations system.

It is the latest model available here, correct, but thats only because the Vita hasn't reached us yet.

Edit: Not to say this is necessarily a bad deal for the device, the Vita will be several times the cost. I just think it's misleading to say this isn't the first gen PSP, it makes it sound as if it would be compatible with the Vita's software.

      • the first gen ps3 is missing some things ie hdmi control, which quite a good feature

He was replying to someone who thought this was the PSP1000, and thus not a good deal compared to PSP3000 deals. In that context, this is not a 1st generation PSP. He wasn't talking about the broader concept of video game generations.

        • -1

None of the posts above actually referenced a PSP1000 directly. While it may have been what they meant by "$119 for first gen PSP is a bit too much IMHO. Some stores sell PSP3002 for around $100."(which is the closest post I can see that would make sense), that could easily have been talking about any of the first generation devices and would still make sense given the 3002 which has WIFI etc is cheaper (according to the post).

I also think the phase "latest generation" is misleading, whatever way you want to dissect it. Call it the latest hardware revision of the first generation devices, that's what it is.

    • I always use my wifi, so that is a huge deal, how do you connect to psn then?

      • Connect via USB to your PS3, or PC with MediaGo.

  • +1

Its a barebones version of the PSP 3000, no wireless, with only mono sound. for the E1002 its not a bad price, but I dont think the E1002 is a great product to buy in the first place. stores have sales on the 3002 every so often for similar prices.

    • If you don't play games online, and you use headphones, the E1000 is fantastic.

      • Not really. What if you want to buy something from the sony store because UMD's are about 2 months from ceasing to exist?

        • +1

Then you connect the PSP to your PS3 or PC (via USB) and buy it.

  • don't know what sony were thinking with this psp and less than spectacular Vita sales figures, if the E1002 outsells the Vita i think it will red faces all round…

    • +1

Actually, that kind of thing happens a lot. There have been times when the PS2 outsold the PS3, and when the DS Lite outsold the 3DS. There's a window where the old hardware is much cheaper than the new hardware, yet is not quite old enough for people to stop buying it.

  • I bought a psp go last year from HN for $100 don't think this is much of a deal for something with less features

    • You would be very hard pressed to find a PSP Go in stores these days, given that it has been discontinued worldwide except in the USA.

      • Being trying to get a PSP Go but, hardly see them in stock anyway.

  • UPDATE: Batman Arkham City on PS3 (regular version) is out of stock. Only collector's tin-case version available.
