No, I don't think so jv

Latest iPhone, Apple Tv, iPad, Airtags just to mention a few. Not the best way to use points, but if you have a lot of points and aren't travelling, then why not use them.

    • Exactly what I did today. Can't foresee myself travelling in the next 12 to 18 months, just redeemed all of it today and start accumulating again

2000 points and $1184 cash for base ipad pro. Might as well just pay the $1199 rrp and have free engraving and 2 week change of mind refund window.

    • +5

hmm, how does engraving and 2 week change of mind refund work exactly…

      • +1

Through Apple directly… not sure how much more there is to understand… lol

        • +3

what i mean is why would apple take back a personalised engraved unit? A whole lot of "For Bob my Love" ipads in the used section is really going to sell well isn't it.

          • +3

@CptnObvious: Ah, sorry, your comment was a little too ambiguous for my tiny mind. You should still be able to return an engraved item. Apple will just slap a new outer shell and sell it again. :)

          • +1

@CptnObvious: I’ve returned an engraved iPad, no questions asked

            • +3

@CandyMan: Now I know why my iPad has "Be my victim!" engraved on it.

              • @Master Bates: mmm.. imagine engraving your phone number on it (:

                • +2

@squidz: I'd take a refurbed engraved iPad at the right price :)

    • +2

The discount is just on the points portion, not the cash portion.

Definitely no point paying minimum points + cash for anything, but for those with excess points worried Qantas will devalue them at some point in the near future (or just wanting to get use) it works out about 0.7c per point.

Nowhere near as good as using it on a long haul to Europe, but the odds of that happening this year are zilch.

  • +2

Don’t see any iPad Pro 12.9”, why?

  • Great for them to get you to spend your points, i'll be hanging onto mine though (for now).

    • +22

      hodl~
the value of QTS will stonk

      • Good time to buy Qantas stonks actually.

      • Lol that's what people said last year when the qantas stock was crashing - Government won't ever let this company go broke.

    • What are you planning on using it on?

      • Once the global economy collapses they will become the new universal currency!

  • What’s the rough currency rate of Qantas points
    I used to use 20,000 points = $100 as a rough guide
    Is that still fair

    • With 20% discount, it is more around 2000 = $15.
e.g. I just bought a HomePod Mini @ around 20k pts (which retails about $149)

      • Seems to be right. Just ordered 4 pack of airtags!

    • +2

It recall the points were worth a lot more 5-10 years ago…

          Hi

          • @McFly: You are both my son and my grand dad!

      • You also get more points now given things cost more and there are way more promos.

  • The sale has been happening for many weeks now. I bought the Breville pizzaiolo as it was the cheapest price I could find, based on the rough points/cash conversion mentioned above.

  • Yeah was looking at that HomePod mini, $100 for the mini seems pretty good value

    • The HomePod Mini comes with an official Apple USB-C charger too (worth $29).

      • I thought they were trying to save the environment?

  • does it stack with club / club plus discount?

    • +1

Yes but not additive, just checked I get additional 10% off the discounted points price

  • is the Apple TV 4K a good deal?

    • I might pull the trigger on the Apple TV 4K 32GB myself

    • +1

I didn’t have enough points but got one anyway for $150 + 14k points ($100 off).

      • damn, better off buying a chromecast for like $70-99 then.

      • I was planning on doing the same, but can’t find the link to the 4K model anymore. I wonder if they have sold out. Please someone post the link if you find it

No points then no buy… Its points-ozb.

    • +1

      these r ozb crypto..
they can be traded, swapped for goods, or cashed out..
      best of all, no cgt!

  • +2

Is it good value to use points earned through CC promotions for purchases here?

If disagree and suggest business class, what is so special about business? Like I'm pretty happy with economy and everything 'minimalistic'.

    • Yup totally agree decent value, paid $225 fee for 120k points recently from ANZ.
      That's an iPhone 11 64gb (RRP $999) (not that I want one).

Not as good value as classic reward flights but not too bad.

    • +8

For me, extended air travel is a terrible experience. It's uncomfortable, boring and I can't sleep. In business or first class, air travel is actually quite enjoyable as I can sleep, get a nice meal, the service is more attentive, the seat is comfortable/reclines and I can sleep.

I've used points to fly on the Emirates A380 when I went to Europe and it was an incredible experience and something I'm so glad I got to experience at least once (could shower on the plane). Business class is not to this degree but still awesome.

This is just my experience and I'm sure lots of people wouldn't value wasting points on business/first class as it's just air travel and there's nothing wrong with that. If you do ever fly business or first, make sure you research and select the plane you'll be on since some business class experiences aren't much better than economy.

Thank you for your valued input and giving me an insight onto business class! Your thoughtfulness won't be ignored!

When you really can’t fly overseas Qantas rewards store on sale is great alternative. As an example…
ANZ black card means you can get 120k for $225… or 0.001875 cents per point. So an iPad Pro 128gb wifi for 150,000 (20% off + 10% points club plus) puts it at $281.25 or about 77% off the RRP… for a brand that doesn’t really discount much it’s pretty compelling deal. The same logic on a HomePod mini is $35. Considering the power brick is $29, you’re effectively getting a HomePod Mini for an extra $6.
That or you can continue to dream about an overseas trip somewhere. I’d sooner just churn another credit card and book my next holiday using points on a new iPad 😉

    • totally agree with you here. My wife and i were saving up our points but realisation kicked in that we wouldn't be traveling overseas anytime soon due to COVID and also with a baby on the way. Thus, trigger pulled on new iPad :) Will most likely turnover my Qantas Ultimate AMEX to something else so I can earn more points. What's the next best card usually?

  • 184,908 Points for the 512GB/16GB Mac mini m1 a good deal?

    • Just pulled trigger on 11” iPad Pro 1TB instead for 297,255 PTS. Had a $80 cash back for $800 spend with my AMEX so used that instead to get my Mac mini (and extra 6% off with EPP discount).

Good time to use accumulated QFF points I guess.

  • Thinking about 256 gb MacBook Air, for 208,000 points. Thoughts?

  • anyone received their ipad orders yet? lol. 28 day lead time what the?
