What Printer Do You Use at Home?

I find that since working from home, and with kids home schooling etc., I've had to rely on my home printers a lot more. Keen to know what people think are the best/most cost effective printers for the average home user.

  • Main printer is a Brother HL-2340D mono laser (duplex) which is great in terms of economy and printing speed, but I feel that the print quality is a bit lackluster - doesn't compare to HP Laserjets (used to own one) or the stuff I print at the office. I use aftermarket toners which are great for keeping costs low.

  • I also recently bought an Epson WF-2840 which is a inkjet MFC so it takes care of my occasional colour printing and scanning needs. In hindsight I wish I went for the higher model that does duplex ADF scanning as well. Inks are expensive but I bought the high capacity cartridges so hopefully will last me a while. Not sure whether aftermarket works for these.

  • I used to have a Canon MX860 until the print heads clogged - was really happy with both print quality and cost actually, and you could buy cheap multi-packs of aftermarket ink on ebay which lasted ages.

Anyway, what is the Ozbargain printer of choice?

Have a Brother Wireless Printer at home for basic printing. Cheap generic toners and drums, costs about $9 per high-yield toner. If I require higher quality printing I can just order them online from custom printers or print them at work.

    • Which one do you have? I'm looking for a cheap generic toner printer/scanner that works and is compact that I will only use like once every now and then.

Brother MFC-L2750DW both at home and at work. Cannot fault it in anyway - it just works.

  • Canon TS8260 on which I print about 20 pages a day. Unit is about 2 years old, always used clone cartridges and it prints as good as new.

  • fuji laser bw.
do not buy fuji, well probably the latest model like 2020+ maybe okay

    • I had a Fuji at a small business I owned, and the cartridges were ridiculously priced. I started buying 3rd party cartridges, then refills + 'chip counters'. This made it extremely cheap to run. This was running for several years at least.

  • Brother Mono laser and Samsung Colour laser.

HP LaserJet 2300n, one of the last real (as in proper built) laser printers. The ones built for 200'000 pages and then you can get a maintenance kit and do another 200'000 pages. An elegant weapon, for a more… civilized age.

    • I miss my 30 year oldHP Laser Jet. Those things were indestructible and just worked, on and on and on. But I couldn't get Windows 7 or Windows 10 to talk to it, no matter what I did. So we reluctantly had to part company.

  • We have 2 Epson Ecotanks. It's so Cheap to run. It's just a shame the upfront cost is so much, but then so are fully EV vehicles etc
1 has std paper in it, and the other has a thicker, semi gloss style. My partner is a teacher and needs something that's economical and great quality.

  • Brother HL-1110 laser, best $30 ever spent.

    • Wow? Second hand?

      • brandnew with toner, from a stock clearance at a local book store :D
I have another HP deskjet 2130 all in one printer from $15 officeworks deal for scanning (cartridges are empty now)

        • Yes, Hp generally aren't know for economy. (Except the Smarttank, and the ones that ran the 02 series about 15 years ago).

  • Dell B1163w

Not the best, but does the job for a cheap printer.

  • Hp officejet pro. I want to upgrade but it won't die

  • am using an Epson WF7520 all in one at home. since 2012, 9 years old now.
ink jet, A3 size, double side print and scan available.
using third party ink from ebay, cost ~$25 for two full sets of ink cartridge (similar capacity as XL 140 epson cartridges, which costs ~$100), acceptable result.

downside, as ink jet, required head cleaning if not used frequently, and not very fast.

  • Printnightmare :P
