9120

50c Big Mac’s are on offer at McDonald’s on Friday June 18 to celebrate McDonald’s 50 Year Anniversary of being in Australia. Was announced on the Today Show by the Macca’s CEO. Offer is nationwide, but requires the MyMacca’s App to redeem, either by ordering through the app or by showing the reward code to staff / entering it at a kiosk. One 50c Big Mac per account and 500,000 are available at the discounted price. They are normally $6.35 each at my local.

It’s also mentioned that more promotions and special orders will be coming during the next few weeks as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.

This is to do with Big Mac's not the BTS meal

    • +9

      Big tiddy special?

  • Any details of this online? Is it one purchase per order?

    • Yes, as mentioned below tied to the app.

    • +1

I can 100% be sure its a 1 per order/account without even looking. It'll be a voucher in your account to redeem.

      • +5

oh god can you imagine if it wasn't. Yeah I'll have 20 big macs just for the lols pls. Kitchen would be chaos all day and probably have 3 fatalities from overwork.

        • +2

Many more customer fatalities from heart attacks….

        • +1

If it was unlimited ordering, I would order a stack of them. Pull them apart, freeze the bits for use later on to create my own at home big mac :)

50 big macs for $25 seems like a good investment! :)

  • +29

    wow…$0.50 Big Macs ?!

McDonald's is literally going to get Oz-bargained

    • +77

This seems a reasonable price now they're so small.

      • +8

These days they remind me of the Mac minis instead of big Mac's…

        • yeah hungry jacks burger are so much more bigger

        • +2

But a Mac Mini will set you back at least $1k, not $0.50!

      • I don't really believe this, definitely don't mean it, but I want to say it anyway in the hope that I fit in with the new crowd - "OK boomer! "

      • -3

It's more people are getting fatter rather than the burgers are getting smaller. They haven't actually changed the Burger size since like the 70's

        • Any proof of this?

    • +14

Do they price protect, bought one a few days ago at $2.00

wonder if I asked the manager on Friday for a $1:50 refund. I still have my receipt!

Thats the ozbargain way isn’t it? 😀🍕

      • +13

Well it'll still be in your stomach for years to come, so no issues in proof of purchase!

      • God someone needs to try this Friday. Try and claim price protection on their CC for a previously bought full priced big Mac.

        • +2

Dont bother there are very few here with a sense of humour……

          • +6

@RockyRaccoon: Yeh they can get stuffed lol. I have to wade through daily 'OW price match?' and broden clichés but this made me actually lol 😂.

Also what's the worst that could happen? Mastercard says 'no'.

        • +1

Can only price protect non consumables, so it should be possible since it's McDonalds.

      • +3

Why the negs?!? Gave a + for humour and to counter one of the -'s. I got a chuckle from it :)

        • +1

They probably like extra pickle (sour…)

  • +1

it's going to be more epic than the $1 cheese burger day!

  • +65

0.50 big mac… RBA gonna use this to put downward pressure on this month's CPI figures and justify to keep interest rates historically low.

    • +1

@vchoy Spot on. Didn't think Economist would be looking for deal here :)

    • +2

hahaha. the new "Big Mac Index"

      • +3

The "Big Mac Index" is a real thing… https://www.economist.com/big-mac-index

        • +8

Yes of course it is. Learnt it at uni. This is the first time I used what I learnt at uni.

          • @Mr Frodo: This is one of the greatest comments i've read on ozbargain. Ever.

        • I wish McDonald hamburgers that didn't smell and taste like sucking on damp socks was a thing.

          • @[Deactivated]: how come you sucked on damp socks to know? Did someone force it on you or did you do it voluntarily?

    • Its the big mac to CPI to house price ratio we all know and fear.

  • +7

From my understanding, this will be an app only deal ( 1 per account.)

    • +75

      [email protected]

      I think I have 7 accounts.

      And 2 chins.

      • -4

That may have changed now. You may need a phone number to register now

        • +6

This is why we can't have nice things.

          • @JimmyF: This is why we have $4.90 Kogan SIMs.

        • Good thing there's 1¢ Kogan SIMs then!

        • +2

Can confirm a mobile number isn't needed. I just signed up with a new email address

      • Only 2?

        • +3

          Only 2 chins…

But I'll raise you 2 moobs

and quite a cute little potbelly.

      • I think I have like 20 accounts, from last year monopoly, as you don't need to verify email account, so you just make one up. [email protected]

    • +1

      Well it's a good thing I have 10 accounts

  • +4

thinking the workers in the kitchen, flipping big macs all day…

Would be interesting to see how much each store can produce

    • +7

They will be fine. Big Macs aren't that hard too make, and they will only be ordered one at a time.

They will likely have a couple ready to go at all times (even though they are only meant to start making when it is ordered).

It's good to have something to do. It also ensures that the meat gets used, so everyone gets fresher product.

      • Challenge accepted

    • +3

No flipping of meat required, McDonald’s use clamshell grills, like sandwhich presses on robotic arms.

  • +43

I think it was national burger day 3 years ago they were giving out free quarter pounders and I think I had 3, or 4. Either way it was shameful and part of me processing my experience is to speak my truth in this public space.

    • +1

you should forgive yourself for the past you's mistakes. as long as you learn from them, you shouldn't hold onto them too much

  • +4

This + KFC = coronary bypass

    • +4

      Any deals on those?

    • +1

At least the most of the meat is fresh, not made from leftovers and frozen like Maccas.

I wish Maccas would bring back their Southern Fried Chicken Pieces, made from real pieces like KFC. They were Great, but by all reports, dangerous to cook.

      • I wish Maccas would bring back their Southern Fried Chicken Pieces

They have but in SA only unfortunately =(

        • +1

if it's SA only - maybe that means it's a trial and it's going to be australia wide soon!
          Has anyone tried it?

        • that article is not terribly accurate 'For the first time in Australia, the fast-food giant will offer customers chicken drumsticks, thighs and wings in a signature coating with what they have described to be an “irresistible southern style taste” …makes it sound like they never sold fried chicken before, it was on the menu back in the day before being removed around early 80's i think.

    • +5

You should try Red Rooster crispy chicken, our family likes it better than KFC now

    • You don't let it reach your heart. You eat then puke

      • +1

This is Australia. We don't puke here we spew.

        • We don't spew you oldfart we boot.

          • @ozbjunkie: Cars have boots, elephants have trunks.

      • Thanks!

    • Happy Mac-day

      • Thanks!

  • +3

What time to big Macs start becoming available? Are they a 24/7 menu item?

    • +4

Usually they are an all day item. Otherwise 10:30

    • +1

They are available 24/7 - the 50c offer may specify from 10.30am though, we will have to wait and see.

  • +9

    U mean 'Little' Big Mac?

    • +5

      That's what she said…

    • +3

I had one on a road trip the other day - can't believe how small they've become!

      • +2

  • +4

  • +6
