    Darnit I'm Kogan Second

  • +12

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 31/03/2022

    • Hi Turd, what do you mean by voucher? Does this mean i have to active sim card before 31/03/2022?

      • Yes

  • Cool! A shame you can only get one!

    • +3

      just order another one.

      • +1

1 per order, but you can order repeatedly

        • Wont they cancel your order if they see multiple orders of the same ones?

          • @Turd: They've already sent out a dozen voucher codes

          • @Turd: Pretty sure the whole system is automated. They would have it set to flag extreme abuse and you would get manually checked then

          • @Turd: Why you worried, I received all voucher codes in my email.. will last me for a year

        • wow now got all vouchers ! Super Cool

  • -1

Does Kogan support esim yet? Or does anyone have a guide on who does? I'm looking to get a second sim going.

    • -3

Main telcos do and be warned I think it’s not as good as a physical sim. It can have drop out or connection issues. I read up on it after I got it. Just do some more research and u will see. Mostly ok though

    • +1

I believe only the main telco's. I'm using telstra pre-paid esim and have no issue. I've also got telstra (work) in the sim tray. Both function just the same.

FWIW, I'm on Android 12 Beta 2 and in the notification shade it even shows me icons for wifi calling - which is a nice touch.

    • Don't think so.

But Optus does, check out https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/630126?page=1#comment

do we need to pay Kogan First membership fee firstly?

    • +4

Just ordered one myself and got a 14 day free trial for free then I cancelled the free trial straight away.

  • Does anyone know how long the number will be active for if you dont recharge after 30 days?

    • 90 days

  • +1

Keep saying “Payment unsuccessful. Failed to authenticate with your card issuer”

    • +2

Similar, i am trying to use a coles prepaid CC with couple dollars left though
Getting 'Sorry, there was a problem processing your payment. Please try again shortly.'

      • I'm getting that message with a regular cc

edit: weird, tried a different card and it went through

        • +1

They use card and thus your Bank Account to Verify IDENTIFY instead of actually asking for ID. Therefore it would stupid of them accept prepaid cards which can be bought without ID

  • +7

Thanks arse, but waiting for it to get a bit cheaper than this :)

  • -2

    bought 10 for 10cents :)

  • Just finishing up with my kogan $4.9 sim, any recommendations on who to port to?

    • +1

Depends how much data you need. Belong $25 starter packs are $10 at Coles again.

    • +4

Amaysim is currently offering 50 gigs for $10, comes down to $3 after $7 cashback.

Be aware the base plan is 30 gigs, the current promotion adds 20 gigs to the first 3 renewals (but only the first renewal is $10). The base 50 gig plan is the 65 one (50 gig base, 15 promotional extra) for $15. Don't confuse the 50 gig promotional plan with the 50 gig base plan.

      • +3

Amaysim thinks a month is 28 days which makes it a hassle if you're looking to port back to Kogan as a new customer after the 1st month.

        • +2

True but they have really good customer service. I've hassled them before and they restarted my plan a couple of days in, which made up for it. YMMV

        • Last time I bought amaysim via cash back, they gave me $10 referral credit after activation. If this is their regular practice, then you can use the $10 for the 7 day 10GB plan. This makes the SIM last 35 days total, enough for the Kogan requirement.

    • Shooback Vodafone $40 for $1 now

      • +1

        $1+$40. Minimum stay 2 months.

        • No not really the number must be active for 2 months is the condition I think.

So If I am not wrong just means no porting out within 2 months of initial purchase.
Worst case scenario recharge a $5 add on for extended validity

          • @USER DC: 4 or 5 months waiting for approval for my $6 purchase in April. I do not recommend it too now, especially have to pay $15 upfront.

Actually I received a faulty SIM for the online shopping and had to go to a store for replacement. First time ever for me.

  • +2

Wow that's the cheapest I have ever seen

    • +2

Well it couldn't get any cheaper than that, it would go from being called 'cheap' to 'free'.

  • If I buy multiple of these SIM cards for an Optus 4G wifi modem, can I sign up as a new number each month or is it only a one off? I know its new customers but I dont mind signing up as new numbers

    • Yes

      • So I can sign up every month but as a new number without getting charged full price?

  • Is there anything stopping us from just buying a couple of these sims and just activate a new one once the old one expires?

    • +1

      30 day change over period.

      • Voucher expired on 21/3/2022, so you should can use the new one after the old one expired

    • +1

No, toss out old one when 40gb used or 30days hit (whatever comes first) then put in new sim and activate on new number.

      • Sweet. I can't remember where I saw it, but I recall seeing a pop up saying that there is a limit of 5 cell phone service per person for some carrier. I think it was boost or catch or something.

So I thought something like that might apply

  • Blank Sim shows $2 at check out if I don't order a starter pack

    • Already did kogan first. No worth creating new accounts for

  • +1

I don’t get this. Kogan will lose money on this offer. The express shipping would be the killer.

    • +1

Kogan has ripped us off for long time, dont think they will make a loss on this.

    • +4

They just need a few people to forget to cancel the 14 day Kogan first membership and they will be fine. Not to mention those few that stick with the plan and pay $40 per month going forward.

      • I was in the same boat a couple years back.
Then realised how much they were ripping off customers on the year long plans of like 200 $+. When boost had their for 150$ and a way better Telstra network

    • +1

They used to be free when they have this promotion a few years ago. Now it is 1c, so in a way, it has gotten more expensive.

They know what they are doing.

  • +1

    Nice. Got about a thousand.

  • +1

    It keeps saying payment Unsuccessful

  • -1

My 20th order has been 30 minutes, still processing

  • Can I port my number back to Kogan using this offer if I used their starter pack in the past?

    • +3

You have to have ported away for 30 days to be considered a new customer.

  • +1

    Anyone getting payment authentication failed?

    • +1

    • Yep. Was on mobile, will try on desktop later.

      • +2

Tried on mobile web and app. Nothing is working. Tried 2 different cards as well…

        • +1

Yep I just tried on desktop. Failed to authenticate even though I got an SMS from my bank to confirm the transaction. It's a Macquarie Bank card too, which is never problematic.

          Something wrong on their end.

Edit: Tried with ING debit card and it worked.

    • +1

Yes, tried twice but didn't work.

    • Works fine here still.

    • Just worked for me on desktop using Google Chrome.
Didn't work with Kogan Money cc rewards points (I have a few from the Kogan Money Black cc) as the payment method.
But worked with Kogan Money cc as the payment method.

Ordered a few and got the voucher codes in a few minutes.

    • +2

I tried and failed with my Westpac CC. Called up bank and they said all the 0.01c transactions showed successful and must be something wrong at merchant end. 2 other cards failed, and finally got through with ING debit.

      • happened to me too, i have commbank, i called them and they said it looked like $0.00 on there end so i added another sim card ($2) to my cart and it worked

    • +2

Ok so MasterCard doesn't work. My visa card works.

    • happened to me too, i have commbank, i called them and they said it looked like $0.00 on there end so i added another sim card ($2) to my cart and it worked

  • +1

Couldn't pay on Visa at all. Amex worked.

  • lol.. my cc got flagged because of multiple 0.01 transaction

    • +2

      Username checks out.

    • lol bummer

    • How many did you do?

I got 3 with ING debit card, no issues here.

    • I used Amex, didn't have any issues other than the odd "security verification" which redirects to Amex's website temporarily before it gets approved.

    • -2

ended up getting Giftcard from Suncorp at 8% disc, using mobile app it deducted from GC ..

  • +3

    Paypal works !

  • Whats considered "new customer offer"?

    like a brand new number?

  • +1

    only for kogan 1st customers otherwise $ 4.90 .

    • +1

Yep it's mentioned in the title (1st two words) & again in the description (1st sentence).

      • Got Kogan First , bought 8 sim. cancelled the free trial. Thanks .kids can use these

  • Can I start the 14-day free trial while purchasing this deal and Cancel the free trial immediately after I get the voucher issued to my email?

    • That's what I did. I will cancel it before 14 days.

  • +3

Thanks OP. Kogan seem to be having some issues processing MasterCard payments right now, but was able to pay with a VISA instead.

  • Is there anyway yo avoid having to verify my ID? I dont want to give my id to Kogan!

    • When activating the SIM?

      • Yeah

        • Don't think so. Every telcos will ask for your ID.

          • @hawkeye93: Not really. Catch and Belong do not check ID, only credit card verification. If you do not port number, you can put whatever info you like.

    • No

  • -3

Bought 20 for 20 cents. Thanks. Great deal. Bought too many and got my card locked and needed to call to unlcok. Lol

    • +1

      Yeah 20 is kinda crazzy

      Honestly

      It's 9 months till expiry
And you need to stay without Kogan for 30 days at least so making it 4.5 months (that is reducing it to 4 months) max use for 1 number

So any more than 4 is not really useful for one person per number.

Also Kogan doesn't allow for use of same card (it recognises the card used with a different Kogan first account, so you would have needed 20 different cards for it too)
