    Keep in mind with some of the cheap store jars, the lids may not be the "industry standard" sizes like the Ball etc.. jars so they can be hard to replace. If you're pressure/water bath canning to preserve food, the lids are only supposed to be used once.

    The above said, you're right, it doesn't make sense.

    In a non pandemic time, these lids/bands would be half the price or less. You shouldn't need to replace the bands every time.
