  • I wonder what the chances on getting this are. Thats a really good offer

    • Only one way to find out and go for the upgrade :)

  • Still very glad I got this offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/617846
and have just completed its requirements.

    • The above offer is giving you a total of 150k if you're eligible because you are combining it with this offer: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/628885

      • nightelves isn’t that just for new cards where op’s post is foam upgrade from standard Amex card?
Edit. Sorry don’t worry about what I said

      • I understand that; but you must spend $6000 to get them.
Just different horses for different tracks.

        • Yeah but this means you bypass a second credit check and don't have to wait the 18 months for the bonus points. I'll take that any day of the week. I imagine the $6000 is spreadsheet over 6 month $3000 being for the first 3 months of the premium card and the remaining is on the Ultimate.

    Sweet deal, definitely targeted unfortunately

A great deal as you don’t have to be “new” to Amex. The “waiting period” of 18 months to be eligible for new card application bonus may preclude most of us interested.

  • $3k spend in 3 months seems pretty decent for a Qantas Amex.

  • Wow - got the Premium card from the previous deal.
Hope to be eligible in the upcoming days. Would be quite a good deal.

    Link doesn't work for me.

    • +2

yeah not sure why the amex link stopped working - i still have full link it was re-directing to so have updated the post with the full working link

    • 18 months from the time you cancel your AMEX issued card.

  • Can upgrade with my discovery, How to spend the $450 with incorporating points / use of card any advice would be lovely!

  • +1

The link works for me, but when I called to confirm eligibility, they said that my account wasn't eligible and that GENERALLY upgrade offers pop up at/after 6 months (I've had mine since April)

  • +2

Thanks, used the link to upgrade. 60,000 points + $200 cash back + $450 travel credit is a good deal.

    • You forgot -$450 annual fee…

    • +1

Were you targeted for the offer or did you just use OPs link?
Can you update us on whether it worked?

  • For anyone who already has Qantas Ultimate - can you use the $450 travel credit on competitively priced travel ?
Or do you end up spending it on flights that you could have got for $100 with another airline ?

This is really what makes the deal or not - if you can't get close to $450 of value with the travel credit, then the annual fee is a big fat negative.

  • People with the Qantas Ultimate, are you able to book something else except for the Qantas flights with the $450 credit?

I got an email with this upgrade offer from amex and it stated:
    Annual $450 Qantas Travel Credit3
to spend on flights, hotels, experiences and more at Amex Travel Online.

When I looked into the small print, there is only mention credit can be redeemed for QF flights.

So now I'm confused a bit.

Also extract from Terms and conditions says:
You may only use the $450 Qantas Travel Credit for one travel
booking for eligible Qantas flight(s) each anniversary year online at
americanexpress.com.au/travel. Eligible Qantas Flights are flights with
    a QF flight number.

    • Ive only spent on flights before so havent really tried anything else. Could just call them and ask?

      • Keep a copy of the conversation and ask them to email it to you as well.

      • +1

I have called and you can only use the credit for flights.
        :(

Probably mistake in their upgrade email offer.

  • Thanks, got the deal approved immediately. Was almost about to cancel my card too.

  • Dang, I cancelled my card recently otherwise I would have gone for this.

  • I’ve got a gold credit card now. Is it worth it upgrading and do I keep my existing MR points? I’m paying $0 annual fee at the moment.

    • Interesting question since the "upgraded" card will be earning Qantas points. I don't think you will lose it but may be you will have to use it within a reasonable period. I believe I can get away with this problem by "pooling" my points with my other Amex cards with a MR account. As for annual fee concern, I am thinking of downgrading the Ultimate Card back to Essential (also fee free?!) if there is no special offer to make the renewal fee justifiable?! Any comments and suggestions welcomed.

  • I call them, they can offer me 40k points + 450 credit over the phone, not sure If I should cancel it and wait 18 months.
