  • are the free tickets an ongoing thing, or a once off?

From 21 June to 18 July, some of Melbourne's best events, retail and hospitality venues will be giving away surprise freebies right across the city.

I suspect there will be other freebies to attract people to get into the city.

  • such a good musical, i highly recommend

    • is it fun to take a 4 year old? my daughter loves frozen, but not sure if she will love a live musical

      • +1

it still probably would be fun for her. the storyline is the same, they play all the classic songs that she'll know plus a couple more. and you'll get to enjoy some of the more adult humour as well as the fantastic acting (the guy who plays Olaf is amazing)

probably one to keep to yourself, now will be packed at the booth

    • LOL, they sent it out to City of Melbourne email subscribers, and on their social media channels (Instagram 283k followers, Facebook 500k followers). Not exactly a secret.

Okay, so they want extra and more people to travel from suburb to the CBD
But who on earth would take a train at noon on a 9°C Monday into the city?
Only those who are already living or working in the city would be benefited
    Makes no sense at all

    • right on!

I don't think their goal is to get people to line up in the city at the ticket booth. It's to get people to Frozen shows at night who will then have a drink, grab dinner, have a coffee. It's just one of many levers the city can pull to get people into the city like the 20% cashback on meals.

For those in Sydney, just walk outside in a tshirt and shorts and you can get frozen for free!

The funny thing is they gave out all the tickets early before 12 because ‘with the amount of people it was not COVID safe’. The lady gave out the ticket starting at 7am. So no one in the line got tickets.

    • This is disgusting

    • +1

this is not true! I got there at 10:20 and I was 5th in the line, with one person waiting from 7am (don't know how he knew about it). They started handing them out at 11:40am as the line was too big. if you got there before 11 you were likely to get a ticket.

  • Do we think the other giveaways will be at the same location?

  • HI WHAT WAS THE FOMO TUE 22 JUN? AS NOT ON FB, INSTA, OR TWIT? TA

Sofitel Staycation vouchers (Insta Stories). Giving it out at the same place as yesterday. Seems it's probably a good idea to hover around there in the morning when it opens every day.

    • Today's:

Head to the Melbourne Visitor Booth on Bourke Street (across from Myer and David Jones) and score a limited edition Rising Festival rain slicker, designed in collaboration with Aunty Zeta Thomson. There will be 100 jackets given away from 10.45 am, first in best dressed.

  • I'm still tracking the giveaways.

Tues - Line was loooong at 10am but they said go away, we'll announce it later. It was for 1.30pm at Town Hall, tix to a imaginaria.

Wed - Announced 5am (yay! wish they did this daily so we can plan our day) for 11am for that wheel thing at Docklands, the location was the same spot.

Hoping to get tix for cursed child but it seems to random… you'll have to be in the city with your phone glued to your hand.
