  • Guys who bought it last time, could you give us some feedback ? Any dropouts ?

    • +1

No dropouts so far, working really well actually.

My router is located at the back of the property and the other one is located near the front. 250 sqm and signal is pretty strong across where I usually chill around the house.

  • With wifi 6, is dual band enough or should I be looking at tribands?

    • +2

Tri-band is useful if you have a lot of high demand on the network, and especially if you can't connect the satellites to the primary router via Ethernet.

The third band acts as your wireless backhaul (the connection backbone).

    Black routers are so 2008.

    • What are we supposed to be doing in 2021? Beige? Rose gold?

  • bought the 2 pack, but I need a 3rd so may have to jump on this. works great otherwise, just my house is too long and NBN is installed on one corner of the house. I did a price match with JB last time do you think they will allow me to return?

    • They have a 30 day return as long as you haven't opened/used it. I'm guessing you already opened yours? :(

      • yeah I have, darn

        • just sell it in gumtree or ozbargain. should worth $150 or even more

        • Can't buy a three pack and stick the router and one satellite (plus two power bricks) into the 2-pack box in an unused state?

  • I bought 2 pack last week, anyone knows does the main one has to connect NBN router by wire? I connected by wire during the setup, but once I unplugged the wire, whole mesh is offline.

    • +1

you answered it yourself, plug the wire back in. the main device(router) needs to be connected by cable to the nbn box (nbn box is not wireless)

      • Will WAN port from NBN NTD be connected or internet LAN port of existing modem after NBN NTD will be connected ?
I am on NBN FTTP connection

        • You can use both methods. Who is the ISP and do you use their VoIP phone to make calls and 4G failover?

      • Sorry to be clear, my NBN box connect to Vodafone Router by wire, and Vodafone router connect to Netgear main box by wire as well, can Netgrear main box connect to Vodafone router by wireless? or I did wrong config? Thanks

        • Is your nbn FTTP?

        • For the Netgear Nighthawk router you have to use Ethernet and the Netgear Nighthawk satellites can be linked by Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Netgear Nighthawk can't be connected to Vodafone router by Wi-Fi. Do you use Vodafone's VoIP phone to make calls and 4G failover?

  • I picked up the two pack last week for $149, has no dropouts so far and is a much more stable connection through out the whole house. pretty basic on the setting but can see all devices connect vis the app. I just need to figure out if the backhaul via cable can run through multiple switches? has anyone done this? can it be done? I connected the nighthawk to my Telstra router via the a Lan Port so I could keep home phone and 4gbackup. the wireless satellite is at the other end of the house, so to run the backhaul it would need to go through two switches. i haven't tried yet as I run the if it isn't broke, don't touch it theory! any thoughts would be appreciated.

    • @JACK SKELLINGTON : DHCP is handled via Telstra router correct ?

      • that's correct, Telstra router handles the DHCP.

        • +1

          Ok Thanks

          • @bzybee: i've seen no issue with DHCP with my setup at present. maybe as I'm running through the Telstra router and using the nighthawk purely for the Wifi mesh.

    • If you login to your router via a browser you can access more settings than in the app

      • How do you login via a browser? What's the details.

        • "By default, your NETGEAR router's IP address is either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1"

First link on google when you ask what the IP address for nighthawk systems are

  • any one got any ideas if the back haul can run through multiple switches.

  • VLAN tag for TPG?

    • VLAN 8021.Q is supported. User manual

Set up a bridge for a VLAN tag group

  • Can both satellites be connected via a wired back haul to the router?

    • +1

from what I understand both satellites can be wired back to the main night hawk router to establish backhaul. i've asked the question about whether backhaul can run through switches but have not had an answer yet?

      • +2

Yes you can run it through switches, as long it is configured correctly (aka don't create a loop back storm but "short circuiting" your network)

        • Thanks. It's connected as follows. Wall to telstra router then to nighthawk router via a lan port. The satellite would run from the telstra router to a switch, then to another switch. So technically the back haul would run through two switches back to the night hawk router … would this work?

          • @JACK SKELLINGTON: Nah the Nighthawk satellite has to go back to the Nighthawk router via the switch.

Wall —— Telstra modem —— Nighthawk router via LAN —— switch ——- Nighthawk satellite.

            • @Twix: Ok I think I got ya but can I add another switch to this so it would be.

Wall —— Telstra modem —— Nighthawk router via LAN —— switch ——switch—- Nighthawk satellite.

              • @JACK SKELLINGTON: I haven't tested with 2 switches. It should work.

                • @Twix: Will let you know. the telstra modem connect to the 1st switch also… should this be disconnected as the Nighthawk will run through it too

                  • @JACK SKELLINGTON: Don't connect the Telstra modem to the switch. Switch connects to the Nighthawk. You have FTTN or FTTB?

                    • @Twix: Ok. So everything will run back through the nighthawk to the telstra modem. I'm on FTTN…. we got the shitty copper Here lol

                      • +1

@JACK SKELLINGTON: Yeah that's how it works. For FTTN you can't remove the Telstra modem. If you do your connection won't get a line sync.

                        • +1

@Twix: Thanks will do it tomorrow and hopefully all should be sweet.
