    Is it worth it?

    • -3

      Yes. 15% off

      • +1

Is 15% off a deal that was a rip off good value or is it still just a rip off?

    • +4

No it's terrible value - best is around 0.5 - 0.6c per point.

    • +4

If you normally only use your Qantas points for gift cards yes, any other reason, no. Always aim to use your points for flying related redemptions.

      • Except if you have more points than you need to fly. Covid world but different than before.

      • +1

Nah look out for 20% discount points too, on hotels they'll be worth quite a bit close to 0.8c per point.

    • +1

      Let me work it.

  • +11

Not worth it at all. Even if you were to go on the lower end of the points worth, say 0.75cents. it's still over $100 for the $100cards

    • +2

What are points worth these days? Used to be able to sell for 1c each no problem but with the current situation i dont think people are buying

      • +2

I checked the classifieds on here. People selling for 0.85 to 0.90 cents.

        • +1

Yeah thats what people are asking but you dont know what they got in the end i suspect you nees to go down to 0.8c to sell them or wait 2 years or so for flights to be back to normal

          • +2

@Yabadabadoo: Thing is though. Even at 0.75 cents. Them $100 Gift cards would cost you $122-13x depending on the card.

          • +1

@Yabadabadoo: Even in 2 years time, when most (but probably not all) restart, there will be tons of people with lots of points and less flights to redeem on. Airlines will be keen to make up the profits they lost as well so i would say it’s extremely likely points will get devalued reasonably soon.

            • @Awesomandy: In 2 years time, most people don't have points because they spent on this 15% rip-off.

              • @z28: i cashed in all my velocity points on gift cards when it looked like they were going broke

    • +1

Still better than selling to some low baller Ozbargainer on the classifieds who offers you 0.7cents per point lmao

      • uh, is it? like which gift card are even close to 0.7c per point?

    • -2

I value them at .5 cents unless you want to be stuck with pts you can't fly with for years .

      • +8

Sell me all your points for .5 cents then

  • I find it strange there isn't a qantas gift card at coles/woolies. Seems a no brainer to me, especially when covid ends.

    • Qantas' old booking system doesn't handle gift cards very well. Unlike retailers and some airlines like Jetstar (which uses gift cards as expected), Qantas' system works a bit differently. It's part of the reason why it was so hard for Qantas to issue credits and for customers to use it initially (a bit better now).

A Qantas 'gift voucher' is essentially a shell booking with an itinerary number and the cash value loaded against it, which is then converted to a paid ticket when redeemed.

I don't fly with my points. Normally buy stuff from the qantas storeand valued them at about 0.6 cents/point
How do you sell/ transfer them?

    • Look in Classifieds.

      • I thought selling them was against the terms and conditions?

      • Yeah but how do you physically sell them? Can you transfer them to a different account?

        • +1

You have to state the person is a relative.

          • +2

@Yola: or book flights for someone else using your points

            • @[Deactivated]: That's the safest way to do it. Got busted with Virgin a while ago directly selling to a few "relatives", as for how to sell them you can advertise on the classifieds you have x points and are happy to book flights on behalf of someone and come to a deal.

  • wait, you guys have points?

    • +4

Have over a million myself ………….gathering dust :-)

I'm going to pretend I didn't just spend 79,000 points on gift cards 3 days ago.

    • I dropped double that….would have been 11,000 less today….not happy Jan!

  • YAS

  • $100 JB Hi Fi Gift card for 17,750 PTS.

Is it worth it if I don't use my points for travel?

    • +1

      Only you can answer that.

    • Yes . I forget to mention you probably need more than .1 cent for possibly being Scammed or Qantas spotting the against their rules transaction transferring to non family members . So gifts at that rate is great .535 cents after taking 5% off in the calculation that is available everywhere .

    • +5

No, if you want JB, why don't you choose tcn's HOME/HIM/HER digital, $100 only cost 17100 pts and you swap to JB card. Save 650 pts.

      • Nice observation/find.

      • +1

The TEEN card is even cheaper at 16310/$100

  • how does tcn gift cards restrict where you use them? It says eg The Restaurant Gift Card can be used at restaurants and cafes that accepts eftpos.
so it's eftpos. How can it not allow non restaurants and cafes ?

    • These cards are eftpos not debit card that are universally accepted. Eftpos means money comes from TCN account and goes to the retailers account. It would be straightforward for TCN to reject transfer of funds to any terminal that is not within their narrow list.

  • Thanks, bought bunnings cards.

  • Anyone know whether this was a one off deal? Or is the type of thing that Qantas does from time to time? I just received some Qantas points I intend to use for gift cards and wondering if I should hold off or not.

    • +1

More rare than often so depends on how long you want to wait. Perhaps with less flights they are trying to encourage people to offload points so who knows these days, perhaps it might become more regular?
