eufy Security Smart Lock Touch $279.20 + Shipping (Online Only) @ JB Hi-Fi

120

Great Deal for Smart lock, this is the no WIFI option, the WIFI option is also on sale, but not worth it for an extra $120 as this one still uses Bluetooth!

@OP: "but not worth it for an extra $120 as this one still uses Bluetooth" <<< can it give the same functionality as the wifi one if I have a Bluetooth enabled smart device at home, like Echo or Google Home?

    • Nope (atleast that I know of).

You 'can' buy the separate WiFi attachment but my experience has been that the WiFi enabled version just works better. The integrated battery lasts longer than this version with the AA batteries as well.

The Eufy integration with Alexa/echo isn't great (I've found). It's better with Google Home but even then, some of the functions it really struggles with.

I have the WiFi version and it struggles with anything more complex than basic locked/unlocked status of the lock so I wouldnt count on enabling remote features using the bluetooth version, easier to just pay the extra $120.

In saying the above, the device looks nice, the fingerprint reader is EXCELLENT (after having tried lots of duds) and it opens quickly.
I love that it still comes with a manual key option.
The touchpad is 'hit or miss' - the haptics aren't great so it can be hard to tell if your code/digit registered or no but the fingerprint is so good that its a moot point for me.

One weird thing it does is if you have the auto-close set up, after 3 mins. it auto closes even if the door is open - it's meant to be able to detect when the striker is aligned but in practice the 'door closed' detection doesnt seem to work or the software overrides it - really silly if its the latter.

      • It's an override.

Had a look at the Eufy forums and found this gem in the lock Tips and Tricks:

When the built-in sensor detects that your door is in a fixed closed position, it will trigger Smart Lock to automatically lock your door.

Besides, we have an automatic lock protection logic. When the user opens the door for a long time for more than 3 minutes, for the sake of power considerations, it will be automatically locked after 3 minutes.

      • I have the bluetooth one - have had it for about 6 months.

        Battery still showing over 50%

Fingerprint reader is extremely accurate and fast - absolutely love it.
Can't comment on the physical key or keypad - barely used either.

The Auto close 3 minute thing is annoying as hell. I believe it's a software over ride feature.

I have scheduled auto lock to be between 1030pm-6am. It's unlikely my door is being left open during those hours.

The rest of the time, it's only locked via manual - to prevent the deadbolt coming out whilst the door is open and preventing the door from closing (and potentially damaging the deadbolt)

        • Bloody annoying, and if you're getting great battery life with the AA version too, it makes even less sense - the official reason @TheContact pointed out from Eufy saying they lock after 3 minutes to save battery ….WTH??!?!?! Grrr

Having to set the auto lock schedule to particular times to reduce the risk of slamming the door onto the deadbolt is a clever (necessary?) workaround, but barely a solution for something so simple. Clearly someone at Eufy was wearing their 'battery saver Engineer' hat rather than 'practical everyday user' hat :)

The good news is that it's a commonly raised complaint and entirely possible to fix this by software to let the user decide what they would prefer.

As a final comment on this, I've tried some of the lockwoods/samsungs/lockly's before I tried the Eufy.

By a country mile, the Eufy is the best product. Mailny due to how amazingly well the fingerprint reader works….plus all the great supercheap auto Eufy deals so that I can now control all home security from one app :)

          • @Ozbargainerd1: I don't see how it's a battery saving issue at all..

There is nothing utilising the battery in the lock or unlock position?

@The Hobo: Guessing the door open/closed sensor. Won't have to keep polling the state it if it just assumes it's closed with the lock in the lock position. Having auto lock disabled after the same period would be an option, but that's worse for security, as people would just assume it's engaged, so thinking about it now I can kind of understand the decision they made.

  • Do you know if there are any bylaws in apartments against external door modification?

  • Don't need a lock to be smart (outsmart us) really.

  • Pointless info - I literally installed my eufy smart lock with wifi today. Its awesome!

    • Me too! Wish I knew about it auto locking after 3 minutes, but otherwise happy so far!

  • is the eufy T8510T11 model without wifi and the eufy T8520T11 has the wifi?
