Yep. I wish I had gotten two from that deal :( The max sounds so much better than the regular Home Hub.
I can't speak for the regular Nest Hub (gen 1 or 2) but the Max is awesome. The only issue that is still going on after close to 2 years is casting from Facebook iOS - it times out after 10 mins. Every. Damn. Time.
Apparently it does it with other casting as well but I usually only use Facebook. ABC iView seems to work fine though.

What's the trick to avoid afterpay?
You can pay off the Afterpay right after by logging in to Afterpay. I don’t think there is anyway around it.
I thought there was a way with gift cards
Last time you could select Afterpay and use the code, but then use gift cards to make the payment balance zero. Assume it still works.
Do you need an account for that?
I believe so. Reading the comments from the original coupon deal, and it seems like you need to pay a residual of >~$10 on afterpay for the coupon to get applied

I picked mine up for $249 so it has definitely been cheaper (although at this price, it's almost a negligible difference), but if you were lucky and snapped up this deal, you're winning on all price fronts.
