564

Friends & Family Deal for first 1,000 sign-ups @ Honey Insurance

  • $500 Gift card with Home & Contents policies
  • $200 Gift card with Contents only policies
  • Gift cards are for Prezzee, so can be used at heaps of places (David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman etc.)

(*$500 gift card worked out to be more than a third of my H&C policy, so definitely getting a good chunk back. It took about 3 minutes to sign up and they threw in free sensors).

Not able to find my address.

What are the free sensors? That link redirects to their homepage for me.

This insurance is $537 more than my budget direct policy. No thanks!

    • +1 vote

You can convert that savings into gift cards and lose only $37, you'd be crazy not to enjoy that offer. /endsarcasm

    •

      You're an outlier

      •

Works out to be $420 more than my current policy with CBA (I'm aware CBA just sold their insurance business though).

  • -1 vote

Only able to offer me contents insurance unfortunately. I suspect it has something to do with living in a unit thats part of a body corp

    • +2 votes

Unit itself will be insured under body corp… You already paying for it as part of those premiums

  •

where does it say that you will receive $500 Gift card with Home & Contents policies?

  •

Hmm, $150 more than AAMI for me. Tempting - I guess essentially $150 and a bit of my time for a $500 gift card.

  •

for mine its definitely cheaper than my current insurer (Coles) once you take into consideration the $500 voucher.
(though I just renewed and the difference isnt enough to make me go through cancellation efforts)

Looks to be underwritten by RACQ also

    •

I've signed up for renter's insurance, was less than half of GIO with better cover. It is underwritten by RACQ too.

    •

I have Coles. You get extra Flybuys points with Coles that may add up to a bit over a year. Also I’ve been told I don’t need to separately list and pay extra for expensive items in the contents. You do with this Honey one.

My Coles renews in October and is $396 (very likely $400+ by then). Honey quote was $660 ($500 gift card off that). GC is a little limited where you can use it, but good enough to worth it. Be nice if you could go later than end of July for policy start. I still went for it though start date end of July so I have 3 months with 2 policies. Slightly Cheaper to pay by the month.

      •

Then had a look at a Coles quote and it’s $650 (more than I currently pay with Coles).

I suppose I have a few months to decide if I want to stay with Honey. I wonder if I can cancel part way through (and keep the sensors and gift card) to then continue on with Coles?

      •

I didn’t see a condition of start date before end of July. You can choose your policy to start at and date

        •

When I signed up end of July was the latest date to start the policy. Maybe now it’s end of August, or they’ve changed it and allow any date.

          •

@wfdTamar: How do u select start date? I can't see any option and it starts from today

            •

@avitherock: I can't remember. It was pretty obvious so if you cant see it they must have changed it.

  • +2 votes

    This is interesting…
So I would get a $200 giftcard with a $237 policy for contents only (as the building is covered by a strata).
This doesn't even sounds right lol so its basically $37 for a year…. I pay $200 with my current insurer.

sucks that renters don't get the sensors, that's a deal breaker for me - not so much missing out on the sensors but the double standard.

  •

Thanks, this worked much cheaper for me. Due to the area and land size of my property, the cheaper companies all strike me off.

  • +2 votes

wonder how know you are first 1,000

    • +1 vote

go through the quote. you should see the "family & friends gift" section on the last page before entering the direct debit details. take a screenshot of that.

    •

      That's my question as well.

      Hi @Janey301081,

Can you help understand how we know if we made it to first 1000?

      Thanks

      • +4 votes

Hi @thiftmate, @PissLUR is right, you should see a "friends and family" section on the last page of your quote summary (before you confirm and go ahead with payment details)

        •

Thanks, Janey301081. Signed up. Excited about the sensors as well.

  •

I am interested but I don't see friends and family option before entering CC so i guess they are all claimed.

    •

I just claimed mine a few minutes ago, try clearing cookies and then click on the link at the bottom of OP's post.

      •

I got mine as well, just signed up moments ago.

  • +1 vote

What a ripper of a deal, can't wait to play around with the sensors!

  • +1 vote

The premium is about 650 more than budgetdirect for me.

    •

Wish I could revoke my upvote, but I cant.

      •

You can here then click revoke

  •

Been on hold for almost one hour as also want to ask a question from them. Think they are very short staffed.

  • -2 votes

The gift card will be sent after 90 days from policy start date for policies that remain active

Entering your own guesstimates lowers the premium to around $60 per month.. $180-$240 not bad for a $500 voucher, just have to hope the vouchers arrive..

  •

Looks like all claimed? Can't see F&F on the quote summary?

  • +1 vote

lol, I was quoted $62,931 for the year, only $61,500 more expensive than RACV!

  •

Free sensors is only with home and contents insurance. Not applicable for contents only. See below Info:

"For now, smart home sensors are not available with contents-only cover. Please continue, we’ll be sure to let know when this changes."

  •

Not worth it for me. It is 3300 more than my current cover.

  •

signed up, was cheaper than my woolies home/contents insurance

  • +1 vote

Bought. Quote worked out about $200/year cheaper than what currently paying so with the $500 gift card makes a nice discount.

  •

Got quoted $480 a month, which is more than I pay per year with regular insurers. I'm thinking contents quotes for city apartments are busted.

  •

You may like to set the House and Content quotas/value as their system is popping way too much. I matched the values as per my current insurance and the premium is $200 (higher than current) annually. Considering they are run by RACQ, I signed up for this offer.

  •

the quote came out more than double of what i pay with aami at the moment!

  •

My quote came in $250 cheaper than my current provider + the $500 gift card. Awesome!! Thanks op!! Took a screen shot of the gift card confirmation for safety..

  •

Thanks Op upvoted and signed up, and have also taken screenshots just in case. Have been following Honey Insurance since the AFR article so have been cross shopping for a while. Whilst this offer is great, I have highlighted some reservations below.

Happy to support this interrupter but also cautious that they may under-deliver. With this $500 cashback however I'm happy to take a risk, but have to acknowledge that the gift-card only brings it inline with Budget Direct pricing, so its slightly disappointing that they aren't the market leaders in any form (at least for me).

The standard quote for me is higher than all the major competitors (incl gougers like NRMA), and I have a sneaking suspicion from when I first got a quote a couple weeks back (same property) , that they've jacked prices to compensate, as my first quote was line ball in the cheaper quartile of peers.
As such, I'm unsure how they expect to generate business if they are remain uncompetitive on price, and think that they may be purely targeting the extremely low-risk end of market. I think they need to become line-ball with BD to have any chance and to capture market share.

  •

Worked out $1000 cheaper than my woolworths insurance including $500 GC.

  •

Gift cards are for Prezzee, so can be used at heaps of places (David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman etc.)

contradicts their terms of 'heaps of places' though

"This Prezzee gift card is redeemable through IKEA, David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman only and is not considered to be transferable to cash at any stage."

    •

I took it as can be used at all the available on the prezee website. There's about 50 retailers

      •

That's not the terms say though

  •

It's showing 200 gift card for me ?

    •

$200 for contents, $500 for home & contents

      •

        Thanks for clarifying

  •

How long until you get the gift card?

    •

      Says 90 days

  •

For contents, is it possible to cover groups of items with a specified value rather than listing it every individual item and value?

  •

Hi OP - At payment page, I can't seem to get past the 4 digit code it sends to my email address. I have requested and keyed in the correct code almost 10 times but it always says "Incorrect Code". Very Annoying. Can you help?

Edit: Requested a call back. I hope I do get the call back soon and hope it's not too late for 1000 users

  •

Hi , are gift cards Digital or physical ?

  • -2 votes

Nearly doubled my annual premium to $2k vs $1k with NRMA.

  •

Thanks OP. Signed up. Premium was ~$400 cheaper for me.

  •

    $720-$500, deal.

  •

$600 premium for me minus $500 gift card =
    $100 for 500k cover.
    Bargain! OZbargain!

    •

$660 for $300k (and $50k contents). I wonder what made mine higher? Timber house maybe? Location?

  •

As famous youtuber Louis Rossmann explains: Insurance is the new scam of the century.
ACCC: Bait advertising is illegal. Insurance companies: We do not care because banks got away with it!

It’s funny people hate socialism and communism, but really insurance is kind of like that (but for a profit). Everyone pays a little in order to spread the risk. It’s the ultimate nanny state.

  •

Signed up. Mine (content only) was $200 cheaper than woolies and $200 gift card bonus sealed the deal. FYI, no sensors if you only buy content. Needs to be home+content to qualify for sensor kit.

  •

Anyone aware if this promotion includes landlord insurance too?

    •

doesnt look like they offer landlord insurance just yet,.

  •

$450 more than my budget recent renewal. Not worth the hassle for $50 for me. Oh well.

  •

What is the difference between Unit and Flat/Apartment?

    • +1 vote

Units are stand alone I believe. Think shared driveways as opposed to vertically stacked apartments

  •

When you go thru the application process, it asks:

Have you, or anyone else to be covered by this policy, made more than 6 building or contents claims in the last 3 years?

But when you receive your final documents, it says:

You have told us that no person insured or covered by this policy has made a home and contents insurance claim or had a liability claim made against them in the past 3 years.

Hmmm … Ive probably made 1 claim in the past 3 years. They didn't ask me that >_<

    •

i got the same problem, need to ring them clarify, i got the investment property i make the claims 2 years ago.

      •

Going to ring up and ask about this too

Just finished a home claim from the super storm

        •

Same. I'll need to call them too.

Did the policy need to be updated and price changed?

          • +1 vote

@Ruckus: Called up and they knew about the confusipn

Said its being fixed as it's meant to say no more than 6 claims in 3 years

    • +3 votes

got the answer, the policy statement not correct.

"made more than 6 building or contents claims in the last 3 years" is the right one, their team working on it and will not effect if we make the claim in future.

  •

Why would an insurance company give away $500 for a home policy? Is this legit? Surely they will need to recover that money? Perhaps they are using the sensors to sell data?

    •

From website "How is Honey using my smart home sensor data? The only information that Honey uses is whether or not your smart home devices are active. The active status of your smart home devices ensures that you keep your discount year after year"

      • Please do not create ghost accounts Janey301081. Use your existing account to answer questions.

  •

    Thank you very much OP.

  •

$280~ more annually than my equivalent current policy with Allianz, who I've found to consistently be the cheapest around for my regional property, so not bad if you make it into the first 1,000.

Without the smart sensors though, which (like all the other Amazon/Google/etc IoT crap) I'd personally rather not have on my network (because who knows if Huawei or anyone else made one of the chips in it and included Bonus Features™, plus extra power draw for the AC bridge device), it'd be $420 more, so not worth the squeeze for me personally but not a bad deal for those who don't mind perhaps.

Also one other thing I noticed in their PDS is that they're one of those insurers that use a more restrictive definition for bushfire/fire damage, and won't cover indirect fire damage (e.g. smoke/scorching) unless the fire was within 100m of the property or the items actually burned, so be aware of that if you're regional too.

  •

Anyone took the deal and still waiting for the gift card?

    •

got an email 9 days ago saying it will arrive in the next 90 days

  •

So has the 1000 been reached or not?

  •

So for those that have their existing insurance being less than Honey, but then the $500 brings this down to make the deal worth it, will you be leaving after a year? or even after receiving the Gift card?

  •

Very tempted to signed up as it is slightly cheaper than my ANZ policy (before the giftcard) ,are they SYD based ? wondering will it be an issue with during claims time/claims inspection. (location - Perth)

  •

signed up, was about the same price as my current policy

  •

I got a message saying their "online experience" is currently down.

  •

I am sure their website is buggy

    •

anyway, transferred my home policy to them. Just realized how crappy my old one was. It's part of the home loan package with NAB bank and I'd tell everyone don't do that!

  •

If you select monthly payments, can the policy be cancelled after the gift card arrives? couldnt find anything on the website about cancelling of policy.

  •

    Offer ended.
Knew I should have taken out a policy yesterday.

    •

      seems to be back.
