That's a great price, even with the rumoured S21 FE around the corner this is a no brainer for anyone looking for a cheaper than flagship phone, with minimal compromise on specs.

    • Additionally, the S21 FE is rumoured to be delayed until October 2021 and to sport an Exynos SoC (possibly Exynos 2100?) rather than Snapdragon SoC due to worldwide chip shortages. It has also been anticipated that phone prices will increase due to the global chip shortage.

      • +1

The Exynos 990 is made by Samsung on 7nm, comprising 2x Exynos M5, 2x Cortex A76 and 4x Cortex A55 cores.

The Snapdragon 865 is made by TSMC on 7nm, comprising 4x Cortex A76 (one is higher clocked than the other 3) and 4x Cortex A55 cores.

The Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 are both made by Samsung, on the same 5nm Fab, both comprise 1x Cortex-X1 core, 3x Cortex A78 cores, 4x Cortex A55 cores.

Apart from the GPU, they are practically identical, and either one is a significant upgrade to the Snapdragon 865.

Noone should be buying a s20FE when the s21 is available cheaper

Samsung S21 128GB phones with a Snapdragon 888 SoC have been going for $875 recently which is 40% more than the price of the Samsung S20 FE described in this post. Yes, the Snapdragon 888 SoCs have ~20% performance advantage over the Snapdragon 865's in the Samsung Galaxy S20 FEs, but is this worth a 40% increase in price? I guess what we'll have to wait and see is whether Samsung can give the Samsung S21 FE the same +20% performance increase with only a +20% increase in cost.

On the power efficiency side of things, this article indicates an almost 40% increase in battery life for web browsing with the S20 FE (Snapdragon 865 and display at 120Hz) over the S21 (Snapdragon 888 and display variable rate screen refresh enabled) even though the S20 FE only has a 12.5% increase in battery capacity. The caveat I raise is these real world results differ from what you'd typically expect with a Snapdragon 888 SoC (5nm) advertised as being more power efficient than the older Snapdragon 865 SoC (7nm). Anecdotal reports appear to confirm however that in the real world, Samsung S20 FE (Snapdragon 865) has greatly improved battery life over the Samsung S21 (Snapdragon 888).

Where the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 seem to differ notably is in performance per watt efficiency. Snapdragon 888's have a ~11% power efficiency advantage over the Exynos 2100 for web browsing according to this review yet performance is comparable for this scenario. Across the suite of tests, performance per watt efficiency was found to be better for the Snapdragon 888's.

Failing to see how this makes any sense. There is nowhere where the S21 cheaper???

          • @sw: Do a search for s21 deals, it was on sale only a few days ago with trade in

            • +1

              @Shacktool:

              "was"

              "with trade-in"

Many thanks for clarifying what you meant… Ciao!

              • -1

@sw: I post to help people and all you are good for is being a snark.

Don't go do the search. Buy this instead.

It took me 20 emails and 3 weeks to get $50 voucher. So good luck 😁

    • +1

Yes i also used mad effort to try and secure a voucher for the previous $450 S21

    • +1

The code is like the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. No matter how close you think you are to getting your hands on it, you're always miles away in reality.

    • +2

oh I gave up after talking to online support 4 times… it was just too hard

    • +1

Why would you email them more than once per day?

      • +1

        It's called follow-up emails 😁

        • +1

Pretty bad service then if it takes them 20 emails to arrange a voucher, guess that's your point.

Sorry, coming from a service background I automatically assumed you emailed them urging for a reply. We always loathed the client that assumed they were the only one instead of being in a queue of hundreds of emails.

          • @Kontiki: Yes I have worked in IT Service for 20 years sometimes we don't wait the queue. Grumpy people 1st like me πŸ€ͺ

      • +1

        He was feeling lonely

    • +1

You're lucky. I spent 3 months chasing (email + online chat) but still got no voucher!

    • i think the key is to have letters only in your email address

  • +2

The code you entered did not affect your order. Please note, codes may only be valid for certain items or in certain conditions.

This message comes up when trying to check out, anyone successful?

    • i cant confirm, i have no more vouchers nor have I purchased in this deal.

    • Yes i tried the code three times to no avail and moved on.

    • Yes I faced the same issue with the $50 voucher since 2 days ago

    • it is expire

  • Does anyone know whether the 4G model has the Exynos or Snapdragon processor? I cant seem to see it on the specs of the phone.

  • +2

I have SD and friend has exynos.

    Difference is night and day

    • Which is the better of the two?

      • +4

Generally it's SD across all Samsung devices, I'd assume the same for this phone

      • +2

        Snap dragon ftw

  • Always Always stuff goes on sale the moment you buy a new phone. I bought a ASUS Zenfone 8 from JB yesterday for $999. Can't complain its awesome small phone with big specs (Not the size but what it dose matters)

    • wow didnt know jb stocked asus zenphones

      • Wow part 2!

Like you, I'm quite shocked that JB even stocks the Zen! My last zenfone was the 5z, still going strong but passed on to a family member.

    • I looked it up and almost thought that'd be my next phone.. but no sd card?

It looks like it has good audio, fm radio, camera and small size going for it. Nice.

    • I'm looking to moving from a Samsung S20+ 5G to the Asus Zenfone 8 due to the size… What phone did you move from tot he Zenfone 8?

  • What if you don't have a .edu.au email

    • +5

      Enrol in a university

  • Got stuck with samsung free, instead of google swipe left on the s20 fe and also cant fast forward spotify music when screen is locked…

    • -1

i dont think any of the samsung phones allow swiping left for google

      • +3

        Only s21 series now

  • If only this was dual sim it would have been perfect.

    • i cant confirm but i suspect it is dual sim being one physical sim slot and one esim

      • Does not look like it is from the spec page. Hope to be proven wrong though.

      • +1

The Australian S20FE 5G I purchased from Samsung at the start of the year does not have eSIM.
My major concern with the handset over the last 6 months has been the woeful fingerprint reader.

Thanks OP! Got the S20 FE for $544.15 using the $50 sign up voucher. FYI you have a typo in the title (should be $544.15 not $554.15)

    • nice to hear that the voucher is still applicable to the s20fe,

thanks for pointing that out lol

    • Are you able to use a different name and address in the ordering area so that the invoice is in the name of the end user?

      • +1

Yep - you can enter a different name and address in the 'Billing Details' section at time of order (which appears on the tax invoice). Hopefully I answered your question!

  • +2

I cannot find a link for the $50 voucher - can anyone provide a link to the voucher offer?
    Thanks

update: online chat advise me that the $50 promo expired on 30 Jun 2021

    • Thanks for that. Glad I didn't wait for a non-existent coupon to appear in my inbox before I ordered my S20 FE just now.

      • Actually, I had signed up last week and never received anything so was looking to go through the process again.
Lucky for me, the Samsung chat staff suggested I check my spam folder - I actually ended up finding a code from 27 Jun in my spam folder, which still worked purchasing another S20FE 5G.

        • That's great!

I only signed up yesterday, so it's a bummer, but at least I know there's nothing I can do at this point.

          • @star chasm: Still, seeing as you could sign up then perhaps they still did it - I would suggest to check your spam folder just in case.

            • +1

@repeat: I signed up with two different email addresses and it's nowhere to be found, in spam or otherwise. Ah well.

    • Ahh thanks for this, make sense now why the voucher was not working as it had expired.

  • If anyone has a spare code that they're not going to use feel free to message it to me πŸ™Œ

  • Is it 128GB or 256GB?

Also, is the 5G version worth $85 premium without a 5G plan?

    • +1

      128GB

      • Thanks, saving me from creating an account just to take a look.

  • Seriously, anyone ever got $50 voucher code from Samsung. Never got them my sign up, definitely not in junk too

    • +1

      Don't worry. You're not alone.

  • BTW, just confirming with s21 fe, is it true it will forfeit microsd and headphone jack?

    • +1

Yep, it's likely that the S21 FE wont have either the headphone jack or SD slot (although this is not yet confirmed)

      • Thanks, guess S20 FE for me then too..no microsd is a deal-breaker for me. Plus I still got an old car that doesn't have bluetooth.

        • The S20 FE is also missing the headphone jack though

  • $629 for the 5G still hasn't matched the initial $596 deal from JB Hi-Fi, with Galaxy Buds Live thrown in :P

And don't rely on Samsung to actually send you the email they promise.

    • What deal?

      • -3

Shortly after release. My memory did not serve me perfectly, as it came down to $550 once the earbuds were sold. Total price was around $750, including the $596 ETC to Telstra. At that stage, Telstra still allowed termination of plans purchased through JB sales without paying back the full price of the phone to either parties.

  • Do you need a 5G data plan to use 5G spectrum on a 5G phone?

Or as long as there is 5G coverage, a 5G phone automatically switch to use 5G, otherwise fall back to 4G?

    • +1

You need a plan with 5g

      • +1

Er, not sure why ive been negged… Legit, you actually need a plan with 5g. If you plan excludes 5g… How would you use 5g? Pls use common sense

        • -1

People neg for no reason, I just put it down to mouse malfunction. :D

        • 5G model has 8GB RAM whereas 4G one has 6GB. That’s another difference.

    • Depends on your provider.

Some may include it in pre-existing plans - more likely in the three providers that actually run networks: Telstra, Optus & Voda-TPG.

With a few exceptions, these three have largely not been providing 5G access to customers accessing their network via contracts with resellers.

      • So, going for the 5G version is primarily for the hardware, rather than utilising the 5G network.

        • +1

But the new 4g variant also has a Snapdragon 865, so not point spending the extra $$$ on 5g if you can't use it.

  • Samsung staff= destination grey hair!

If anyone has a code they're not planning on using, I wouldn't mind it! πŸ˜€

    • I'd be very glad for a code too!

  • Do you know if Officeworks accepting this price for price match?

    • No, price is not avalaibe to general public, but you can try

    • No, I asked, and they have no stock of Fe 5g in their warehouse or most stores.

  • +1

What garbage no one else but students can order

    • +1

I think all the EPPs are able to order at the offer price. Just got to have a corporate or student type login.

  • +1

I have an education login but ended up not using it as it was cheaper to go through the normal store - got a Samsung Galaxy S21 5G for $604 which I'm stoked with. Traded in an old iPhone ($45) >> bonus $450 trade in credit, used an ancient Samsung phone and got a loyalty coupon ($100), plus newsletter sign up $50. Happy days!

  • I am seeing the model for 5G cloud navy as SM-G781BZBIATS
I am not sure if this one is with Snapdragon or Exynos

I thought all 5G version come with SD or this is a wrong assumption?

    • +1

All 5G variants come with the Snapdragon.

      • Ok thanks for confirming this.

What about non-5G ones, are they all exynos or some are and some aren't?

Trying to decide which one to get as I'm not too concerned about 5G as much as getting a phone that has SD cpu

  • Anyone got any recommendations for usb-c to 3.5mm adaptors?

  • I just placed my order. Ty OP and guys for your help.
