So…. for the uneducated. .. what does this do?

    • +1

It's a system to make your house into a smart home.

    • +1

it makes your life a bit more complicated )

  • +3

Genuine question. Why would you get this as opposed to the much more inexpensive Hubitat hub which doesn’t have the restrictions on device numbers and is is also compatible with Fibaro?

Aside from also having to run homebridge to make it HomeKit integrated.

    • +2

Or a raspberry pi with Home Assistant and a z wave or ZigBee dongle?

      • +2

or a much cheaper Xiaomi hub and sensors that would do the same job?

        • -3

Yes, you are correct it is Cheaper and does a similar job. When most people are looking to implement smart home they are looking for the most reliable effective system not the cheapest.

@Oz Smart Things: I had a FC2 hub that cost me over $1000, but honestly to create a proper monitoring and a light control would required couple thousand dollars for sensors plus not easy setup time. I just could not cope with the triple price difference on sensors compare to Xiaomi. And with latest integration with the Homekit it works flawles. It starts all automations, vacuums, scenes, siri, etc.. I have done setup a year ago and never touched it since. Hub $150, sensors and relays below $600…

Still do not get why is your strategy to hold prices so high.. switch to volume strategy, market is growing fast and I do not see why is your product should be considered as premium.

This is a hobbyist solution that is not very stable. This is a solid out of the box solution.

This is a solution that is not very stable. The FIBARO system is a solid out of the box solution.

    • Hey Freshie, There are big differences in the stability and effectiveness of a system. Like comparing the quality of computers, they do the same thing but there are big differences in how they operate and their performance. The reason that they limit the device numbers is to keep their reputation for their performance.

Skaro is also not homebridge it has a similar function but this is a simple to use out of box solution with Australian support. Rather than a tech enthusiasts hobby device.

  • Over 1k will buy you a list of extensive home control system, fibaro is just way overpriced as for most z-wave systems. If you want versatility and wide coverage unfortunately you will have to go with multiple brands. Philips hue is one big brand that nearly ticks all the boxes and it won't even cost this much.
