  • They do look kinda similar to the Aldi ones - https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-3-j…
How are they worth 10x more?

    • If you rent it out, yes cheaper option is 10x better.

    • +5

Without knowing each tap intimately, let me state what is obvious to me but still unknown to a lot of people. Stainless Steel is expensive (for good reason, it is the best). This tap is Stainless Steel while the Aldi tap says “Stainless Steel Look”, meaning that it’s designed to look like Stainless Steel, but isn’t.

      • franke is high end, while aldi is to look highend

        • You'll find stainless steel pipe to be actually be quite cheap… something like $5 a kilogram. If you go to any factory you'll see miles and miles of pipework so how can it be 'expensive'?? There wouldnt actually be more than a couple of bucks worth of 316L stainless in this mixer.

These sorts of fittings are used in mansions around $2.5 mil and up and Franke is a Swiss company that invariably sources of of somewhere other than Switzerland.

Its the same reason why Swiss watches are expensive. Rich people think their kitchens are enhanced by a $1k+ mixer.

          • @tonyjzx: Coming from many cheap taps, we bought an expensive one for our new place. It’s something we use many times a day, gets abused by kids etc. we’ve had cheap ones become lose, get chipped and scratched easily. This isn’t for mansions, it’s just for people that don’t want cheapo fittings.

            • @onlinepred: i work in factories and we put more abuse on our stuff that you and fam ever will and we dont use $1299 stuff…

              • @tonyjzx: You use hose/extendable ones at your factory? Which models?

    • +2

      Because it doesn't have lead

  • $799 for a tap? And that's supposed to be a bargain? What?

    • -7

You wouldn't say that if you were stuck in the Sahara and ran across this salesman. Besides, I hear it's connected to the fountain of youth. Clearly a bargain. I'M MIGHT BE STIR CRAZY FROM LOCK DOWN.

  • Very happy with this one, I bought it $59 last month.

    • Geez you got ripped off

      https://m.aliexpress.com/item/4000172858713.html

      Are you rich?

      • My one can be pulled out, I don't think you can find anywhere cheaper.

        • Pull out is a bad design though, it will only become very lose over time. This design is superior. I'm not saying it's worth more, but quality materials, original design, 15 years warranty, they all add up to a higher price for a reason.
If I wanted an el cheapo tap, I would do fine with the aliexpress one which is 1/3 the price of yours.

The other designs the brand has are better: https://aquaperla.com.au/tapware/kitchen-mixer/chrome.html?p…

          • @onlinepred: Can't go back after using it.

            • @jimojr: What do you mean?

              • @onlinepred: I mean I will never use one like yours again.

                • @jimojr: Oh I was purely showing if money is of concern over quality/form then you can save money.

I use this one (got through builder for roughly $220): https://www.reece.com.au/product/tapware-accessories-c2518/n…
This one avoids the design flaw of pull outs, offers greater maneuverability, greater usability, 15 years warranty, and uses actual quality materials designed to last.

We've had many pull out taps from rentals which require repair constantly as they get lose over time. I wouldn't spend a cent on the pull out design like the one you got ever again.

For my apartment we rent, we bought a cheap factory seconds Franke tap for almost 12 years ago, was just warranty approved as the handle was loose, they replaced with a brand new one and got it installed with zero charge. Meanwhile our current rental we are renting, the pull out aldi tap wont' stay in, and this is the 3rd replacement in 2 years.

                  • @onlinepred: Thank you for information. When it get lose I will replace the plastic ring or attach more weight at bottom. If it need replaced I will still buy a pull out one, because it's so convenient to use.

  • The Phoenix Vezz is similar and normally available for about $400:

    https://www.phoenixtapware.com.au/product/vezz-flexible-hose…

    • +1

Not really similar. It’s brass and chrome. The OP is Stainless Steel.

    • Ugh it’s the hose extension pull out, they are terrible.

      • I can't talk for the Franke, but the Phoenix Vezz doesn't have a hose extension pull out.

  • I got a better one from Amazon UK via AU which was around 1/4 the price here. I would start there if your looking

    Eg

    • +3

      What makes it "better"?
I'd take Stainless over chrome personally

  • +2

    Ok Oz ads is here

  • +3

I love the comments when reps put high end products on here. Even when they're heavily discounted, they still get flamed

    • +1

      its an $800 tap

      • +2

No, it's a $1200 tap at 35-40% off. Plenty of places still selling it at full wack.
I understand a lot of people on here can't justify spending this sort of coin on tapware, doesn't mean there isn't a market for it.

    • +4

Meanwhile, everyone else is circle jerking over the $3 bonus from cash rewards

  • LOL.. they are sold out already

I mean, this result I'm showing you isn't as tall as the tap's body as in the picture shown, but since they removed that product from their website, I can't even match it properly.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33022975183.html?aff_fcid=eb…

But I think you get the idea - $120-150 vs "$1,300"
    Alright.

    • +1

Yet another comment comparing chrome plated brass to stainless…..completely different products.

      • -2

So you argue a tiny block of Stainless steel is worth 1300 rrp or 800 discounted?
get over yourself. its obviously marked up.

        • Ugh how come a Bentley costs more than a Kia, wah wah.

  • Haha! Not a f'n chance.

  • +1

    $799 for a tap 😂😂😂 .. good one OP.
