  • No neg on the deal, I'm sure it's quite good… However, fair warning, after 11 years with Virgin, I'm over the poor performance of their parent company's network. And I'm stuck on contract after upgrading to an SGS2.

I live in South West Sydney, and find the network here to be terrible. Even when connecting with 3G, often times no data comes through the phone or via a wifi dongle. My phone now connects mostly on EDGE at home (Ingleburn).

It's not so much Virgin, as the Optus network, it's over subscribed. I tried one of the Woolworths prepaid sims, and most of the data went unused because after 3 weeks I could barely get any data to work.

I swapped to a Telstra sim, and I can get 500KB a second. Go figure.

    YMMV

      all telcos are the same

    • after 11 years with Virgin

      A True Masochist !!!

      • Indeed. Too lazy to change :)

I got a similar offer a few months back, after I complained that I'd be a customer for years with little reward. Silly me. Sure it's cheap, 6 months at $30, then $60/month for 18 months, but it's not worth the hassles.

Vodafone's 850Mhz network works really well here (or it did when I tested it), and Telstra's does as well, just Optus is hopeless.

I have two more recharges from Woolworths that will likely end up wasted due to poor performance.

not really a deal for current 3 customers…

Virgin has this deal for everyone.
5 months 50% off access fee
on Big Plan, Fair Go & Topless
    Save up to $222
    Promo code: fusion

    • down the bottom it says the fine print:
"Offer only available to new approved 3 mobile customers who sign up to a Virgin Mobile 24 month Postpaid plan"

      • and excluding all iPhone 4S plans, hix

        • It got applied to my iPhone 4S plan. I was pleasantly surprised.

        • @heatseeker424: How can you do that? What did you tell them? I'm wondering if this deal would also apply to pre-paid customers

      • no, its a web special.. for selected mobile phones

vodafone had a pretty good deal for 'Hot for 3' customers - $10/month for $20 worth of calls/text AND you get a free phone e.g. Nexus S.

I'm waiting for my current 3 contract to end before I switch to vodafone - hopefully they give me a great deal

    • How can you get a Nexus S from Voda on that? I can only see cheap phones offered on those $10 plan.

in soviet russia, deal posts you!

  • This is just an advertisement.

Virgin do "always" give the option when you buy online of a 3 month free charge, you're from three or anyone else it does no matter.

We joined virgin from 3 about 15 months ago. We had the 3 months free deal on Galaxy S phones.
Within 2 months we were out of the contracts as the network was unusable in our area (near Dreamworld on the goldgoast).
They wanted to charge us $2200 to cancel both contracts so I went to the TIO. After this Virgin contacted us and agreed to release us at no cost to us.
It was a regular occurrence for us to have full signal but not be able to make calls or use any data and I notated these times.
On the flip side, during this time if I visited my mother near Yamba (northern NSW) I would have no issues with making or receiving calls and my data speeds were very good and consistent.

    • Telcos always try the bully way hoping the disgrunted customer give up the fight.
It seems you're forced with Telstra.

    • "…on the goldgoast"

      Spooky…

I'm surprised you had problems, the Gold Coast (incl. Dreamworld) is probably the only place in Oz that I've had excellent coverage and no congestion…

  • will this apply to voda customers who want to migrate to virgin?

    • Do you have Visa?

    • Yeah yeah everyone as long as you buy the contract, they don't do any discrimination :)
