Does Destiny 2 even have random loot drops outside of events? It's been a long time since I played it
Bungie is extremely stingey on loot. I could imagine that if they did this sort of code redemption thing it would be more like;
* redeem code and receive a in-game token
* use 5 tokens to buy a stamp card from Tess
* run gambit (or whatever game mode is least popular) 5x to fill token
* redeem completed stamp card for a random reward which "may or may not" be something you already have
* rage that it gave you an crap roll for something you already had
