If gathering in front of coffee shops without masks in groups of 20+ and only socially distancing by about a foot is essential 'outdoor recreation', then surely visitng Ikea is too. I wish that Victoria would lend us Dan for a few weeks instead of these ineffective, vague, interpret them as you like rules that lots of people seem to be following around Sydney still.

`^ you guys are headed to hell with that event being a super spreader ( not just there but world wide ) .
She didn't take the start seriously and thought business can continue virtually the same at the beginning with all being essential businesses .

        • +1

Yeah he shouldn't have locked down the state. Better to be like NSW and let people spread COVID. Maybe you prefer a family member to get infected to see the effects?

          • -2

@customundo: The same guy that allowed 70k people to attend a footy game while only 1k were allowed at an Anzac Day memorial?

And how many stuff ups happened within quarantine hotels? But yet he tells you they know what they're doing.

The hypocrisy from these politicians is off the charts. I could go on but it would be tldr.

I've worked with someone who's had it. They said they've had worse flu's. He's still alive mind you. Just like 99.9% of the people who got it.

      • Is it better to buy higher capacity with fewer cycles, or lower capacity with more cycles? I've always just bought the white, which seem to be the higher capacity options.

It looks like the AA's have had a simple rebranding and remained at 2450mAh (also with a 1900mAh option), but the AAA's have gone from 900mAh to 750mAh, unless a 900mAh offering is still to be released.

        • +1

The wisdom on the internet says that if you do not need the higher capacity then its better to get lower capacity with more cycles as its more stable/durable and of course its cheaper.

        • +1

Is it better to buy higher capacity with fewer cycles, or lower capacity with more cycles?

Look at it this way: do you think the batteries will survive 20 years without the wrapper falling off, or going rusty, or being accidentally damaged or thrown out?

If a battery gets to 500 charge cycles in 20 years, that's charging it twice a month. To get to 1800 charge cycles in 20 years, you would have to be charging the same set of batteries every four days.

I have lots of NiMh batteries, and at most they get charged once a month. If your usage is like mine, you'll get to 500 charge cycles in 41 years or longer. So buying batteries with more charge cycles is pointless, you're never going to use them, the battery is likely to die in other ways first.

But if you charge your batteries once a week or more often, then it is probably worthwhile getting the 1800-cycle batteries.

            • @techno2000: That site has a lot of good advice, but has some bad advice too, so don't trust it. It's one person's opinions, and while he backs some of his opinions with data, some have no data to back them up. And he is not doing testing himself, he's quoting other webpages, some of which were taken down (like his "5000 cycles" claim).

For an example of a bad claim, he recommends a charge current of 450mA to 900mA for AAA batteries. This will make your batteries excessively hot, which damages them, so you won't get anywhere near the rated number of charge cycles. That's the reason nobody sells a "1-hour charger" any more.

  • Got the same code via email, seems it's generic across all accounts who qualify.

  • +2

    Who the hell knows ?

I would say 'No' but if buying stuff from IKEA is an essential part of your job then are you allowed to buy stuff?
The rule is you can only go out once a day for essentials but because so many non essential stores are still open for business I guess 'essential' means different things to different people.

    • +1

So why didnt they define the term? Seems a half arsed attempt at 'lockdown'.

      • +18

Because we have these liberal clowns in NSW who think that they are cool parents.

        • +3

Or ScoMo needs to turn up for work now that there isn't JobKeeper. You might want to socially distance but he will come up and take your right hand and place it right into his right hand for a good long hand shake. (remember that scene from the bush fires where the fire man didn't want to shake his hand but he took the initiative anyways)

          • +1

@netjock: I think it was a distraught woman that he did that to.

            • +3

@Caped Baldy: Yes you might be right. The fire man just told him to go away when he offered his hand.

      • +8

You've hit the nail on the head. So Gladys can get away with not locking down.

            • +3

@Caped Baldy: haha yeah like 112 new cases confirmed.

TOld ya my prediction was close/right

    • If I can only go out once a day for essentials, then I better stock up on loo roll. Don't want to accidentally run out after already going out for the day.

I assume they use check-in app to fine anyone who goes out more than once a day… Lol.

  • Delivery by 9th August for some batteries… No thanks

    $5 pickup fee! WTF

    • +2

to prevent broaden making 50000 free orders

      • +1

then just make it a deposit?

    • I have to say I never understood why they don't do free C&C on all orders above a certain amount. I assume it's because people aren't going to buy meatballs and/or all the little things in the second half of the store. Thankfully Tempe is only one suburb away. Unfortunately they were closed on Saturday (probably for a deep clean), so I went to Rhodes instead.

  • What's new about this battery compare to the old

  • +13

    $5 pickup fee…

    • i know. crap

    • +1

      That kills the deal .

  • +2

The real story is the new cheaper ladda! Wowee huge price drop, any reason not to go for the new model?

    • Lower capacity batteries.

      • +2

        AA are same capacity.

        • That's great news!

          • +2

@Nuggets: The new Ladda 1900 mah batteries are rechargeable only 1000 times. The latest eneloop 1900 mah can be recharged 2100 times. So it is speculated that the new Ladda is older eneloop tech.

Having said that its 1/3rd the cost of eneloops on special and 1000 times is more than enough for almost everyone.

            • @techno2000: can these be charged by eneloop battery chargers?

              • +1

@htc: Yes.They are all nickel metal hydride batteries.

            • @techno2000: The teal ones can be 2450mah though. And the page says they can be charged upto 500 times - same as the white ones.

    • The new AA 2450 are the same as old one, but cheaper. I compared them side by side and everything printed on them look the same except the colour

      • -1

White is more premium in term of color, hence higher price

    • is the new model still made in japan anyone knows?

  • +3

I'm still going to upvote this deal… Even though I just made a purchase without knowing / seeing / using the code!!!!!!!!! 🤦‍♂️ OzB Fail

    • Hand in your OzB Membership.

Or just get a refund and then purchase again using the code.

  • Do you get asked for membership proof in store?

    • +5

Last time I used mine in springvale, they asked to show the received email. It should not be forward from someone else.

      • How about if you did it at the self serve counter?

        • Same, they can and some will ask you to show the email but C&C wont

        • +3

Even at self server counter, someone has to come and approve the transaction and they will most prob. ask you to show the email.

          • +1

@jsb: Oh shite geez didn't know. Maybe it's not worth doing then.

        • Just purchased some batteries at Ikea Canberra through self-serve, guy came over and saw the discount and approved it, no problem.

      • Last time I used a QR code in Springvale, staff helped me scan it twice under my membership and my wife's membership. 😂

    • +1

Do you get asked for membership proof in store?

      OzBargain membership?

    • +3

Used the code in Perth and got rejected at self serve for not having the original email even though I was using a legit account that had earned it and a screenshot for that account having earned the coupon.

Tldr; can't pick up for someone else without original email. Screenshots not accepted. Regardless of authenticity.

  • Thanks OP, the code paid for the delivery charge.

  • Where to enter code??? Anyone

    • +1

In your shopping cart under "Continue to Checkout" you will see a "Use a discount code" dropdown. Make sure you're logged in as a family member and apply the coupon.

      • Thanks doweyy

  • Partner had to run into IKEA Tempe last week to pick up a lamp - lucky she got really busy at work because they had a casual staff member test positive on the same day she was going to go in…

I'd be avoiding businesses where there they had active cases for at least 30 days tbh - so what if delivery would take until the second week of August?

    • +1

I'd be avoiding businesses where there they had active cases for at least 30 days tbh

Yeah that's smart. Christos reopened for a couple days after MP Marshall tested positive and before three additional cases tested positive.

  • How do you use code at Checkout Online i cant see any options

  • AAA batteries have dropped from 900mAh to 750mAh, would there be any real difference with that change ?

I currently use AAA's in kids walkie talkies, small torch and lamps, all remotes.

    • -1

17% less rated capacity. Can't speak for real world use.

  • +1

Do they ask for email confirmation if trying to use this code instore? got a ikea membership but not the email with this discount code.

    • In the email, there's a QR code to be scanned if use in-store
Just scan the same QR code in the Deal Image on this post during check out in store
(remember to scan your IKEA membership card first before scanning this QR code in self checkout in-store)

    • +5

Even if you scan the QR code in-store, IKEA staff member could ask to see the original email. From experience when using codes at self-checkout, staff member has to order authorise the voucher usage. Last time I tried this the staff member asked to see original email with the QR code and wouldn't authorise the code use when I couldn't provide the original email. Not sure if they ask to see original email if you go through a normal checkout.

  • Been thinking of getting another ome of these, https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/undersoeka-insulated-travel-mug…

May use the code to pay for the shipping, gotta add a cheap thing to make up the $10 to use the coupon though

  • If only IKEA was nationwide. The OzBargainer in me doesn't want to pay $49-$149 shipping.

  • Click and collect kills this… Was trying to avoid the crowds rushing for the ladda

  • +1

Does this code work in Perth?
