pretty tempting, shame you have to open it up to access the blades though.

Looks a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none. Pliers are probably the best feature if you need those but most people just don’t. I love Leatherman tools and I’m quite happy with my combo of skeletool CX in my pocket and a style CS as a keychain. I use the scissors of the style a lot they are great

  • I've always wondered how strong these and similar multitools are. It looks like there will be a lot of force on the joints between the handles and the pliers part.

I have a different model that I was gifted, but I'm unwilling to use the pliers because I'm worried I'll break the tool.

Has anyone broken one when using the pliers, by squeezing too hard?

I have had two leathermans (leathermen?) over the years (mut - lost, surge - use daily) and have never felt like they would snap. Both these tools are considerably larger than the rebar however.

I have seen plenty snapped on leatherman Facebook groups however but the consensus seems to be that leatherman replaces them no questions asked. Most of the people with broken ones sound like they've been doing twisting things with them as well which might be worth noting.

Worked on a station for a few months and the rebar bailed me out a few times.

Used the wire cutters on both hard and soft fencing wire without an issue and used the pliers to untangle a few metres of wire that was caught up in a motorbike chain.
Never felt they were gonna let me down, you do need to clean them up if they get dirt in them or they get hard to open.

The rebar is a smaller size tool compared to the larger supertool 300 ect., I found it was a handy size to take around all day but YMMV.

Apparently they have a great warranty but I haven't had to test that yet.

I have a number of LM tools including PST, Wave from 2000, Wave+, Surge, Charge+, Rebar, Supertool 300, Crunch, Wingman and Sidekick.

The Rebar is a very underrated and capable tool. It has most of the basic tools with the exception of scissors, and you can simply compliment the Rebar with any other small folding scissor tool to get that function.

One hand opening blades are good and all, but if you're looking for safety then the rebar is a fine option as all tools are stored under the handles, and all tools are locking.

Plier strength is fine in all of the LM tools, just don't twist the pliers through the axis of the tool. Grab the item from the side, then rotate the tool in line with the top and bottom handles.

The Rebar is one of my favourites, as you can add a special bit set for it, and then the extension bar to use full quarter inch bits.
