How ridiculous! A post on the language course descended into an anti cpc orgy.

    • You must be new to comment sections.

      It is CCP.

Plus plenty of people glazing over genocide too.

  • Does it teach you how to join the CCP?

  • +1

Chinese are taking over the world so this will be handy! Thanks Op

    • Not if they are stopped. Their ageing population and lazy youth are killing them!

  • +2

Does this Mandarin course teach me how to sing the Chinese national anthem?

Think of all the HongKongers who is now in re-education camps, 26 years ahead of the '50 years of no change' deadline.

Welcome to the 'new and improved' Hong Kong

Feels sorry for the Taiwanese across the straits

    • HK better off being ruled by their mother land. The British rule brainwashed the Hong Kongers into thinking CCP bad because they against Communism.

      • History has shown that every communist nation has just been a facade for corrupt dictatorship.
Overwhelming majority of citizens and nations in the eastern bloc have preferred multi-party democracy over shitty communism

        https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2019/10/15/european-publi…

        • I am sure all the democratic nations have no corruption whatsoever.

          • +2

@Ayadan: There's a clear distinction between corrupt dictatorships and corruption in democracy.

To say corruption exist and therefore its no difference anywhere is a little silly isn't it?

Even within each democracy there is varying levels of democratic institutions, the more democratic the less tolerant of corruption and less it occurs (but can still occur). But in places where dictatorship is accepted like NK its just terrible for the poor and concentration of power and everything to the leader

      • +2

You know CCP isn't even real communist, they care about money / power more than anything…

  • +1

So was as there any valid reason to neg this post?

    • no, but this is ozb, people just neg whatever they don't like.

  • Gayau!!!

    A for Australia
    B for Borders locked
    C for contact tracing
    D for Delta variant

Yayyy.. enough of Chinese.. err.. covid.. I learnt in past few years

    • +3

      D for Delta variant

It was Indian Variant renamed to Delta Strain.

      • +2

Indian variant of the China virus, which is apparently too politically incorrect and renamed sarsncov2 and the disease renamed from wuflu to covid.

        • -1

Virus mutate, eventually their mutations make them distinct enough from other viruses that it behaves differently and humans give it a unique name. Virus mutations is a thing that has happened for millions of years, anyone calling it a wuflu or the China virus is a bit of an idiot or a racist.

  • Well I'm already Chinese so why bother.

    • +2

      But it's free…

  • Just so people know, Mandarin is not exclusive to Chinese, Taiwanese also speak Mandarin and the words, pronunciations, characters are all different. So it is misleading for a Mandarin teaching course to show a China flag as if it is Chinese only.

    • -2

Yawn….Just so people know, Mandarin is not exclusive to Chinese, Australian Chinese/Malaysian/Singaporean/… also speak Mandarin and the words, pronunciations, characters are all different. So it is misleading for a Mandarin teaching course to show a China flag as if it is Chinese only.

    • +1

The course is teaching Beijing's version of mandarin, not southern china/taiwanese's.

It's like saying Kiwi / Aussies / Brits speak the same English.

      • What is so different between those versions of English, they are almost identical?

  • +2

It makes people surprised that I cannot find anything like Huawei here
People have already forgotten you Huawei lol

    • +1

Huawei is not on the list anymore. Mr Murdoch is hyping up Xinjiang cotton these days

  • +1

Having Mandarin skill will help a lot when finding an executive level these days. This is clearly shown in the Mandarin take up rate across all Australian private school these days.

  • +2

Hopeit is not heavily northern China accent. I prefer the tone of Taiwanese. 🥰

Cant help to notice that any deal related to China could end with political debate… For god sake, it's a site for bargain hunters, not for someone runs for parliament seat… Gonna say our media and politicians have done some great work in brainwashing us to make people believe China is the big bad wolf and the reason of all the negative things, and forget about what the real problems are.

    • +1

Spot on. Looking at the neggers in all China-related deals, only reinforces the fact that they're sore losers.

    • +3

So China hasn't been imposing unfair / BS tariffs crippling many Australian Industries from trading there ?

I must be brainwashed by some facts I guess !

      • +4

Ffs, this is a post about a language course, not about tariffs. You're not just brainwashed. You lost your mind

      • Well, the thread has been flagged as offtopic so I'll reply to you just once.

You mentioned China imposed unfair tariffs against us. One thing you might not know, thanks to our 'unbiased' 'independent' media, is over the past couple of years, we have raised over 100 Anti-Dumping cases against China and enforced loads of additional tariffs against Chinese products. During the same period, afaik there's only 5 cases China raised against Australia. Hard to claim all our 100+ cases are 'fair' and all Chinese cases are 'unfair' I guess.

iirc, the tariff war started when we banned Huawei, with the sole reason of pleasing Uncle Sam. You might be told that it's because of concerning of national security or so, though they didn't tell you is there's no any evidence supports the claim and Huawei was willing to have their services/products examined and audited by any government authority. Meanwhile, one of Huawei's major competitor, Cisco, has a long history of leaving backdoors in their systems for US government to utilize.

Let's use our common sense. China is our largest trading partner and biggest export destination. Our export to China is about twice the size of what we imported. If you are a business owner, you can't expect your customer keep shopping at your store while you keep throwing trashes at him.

In terms of Covid, all scientists involved in the investigation, including Australian scientists, claimed that China has provide all necessary supports. Again, thanks to our 'unbiased' 'independent' media that are very good at take the quote out of the context, they made ordinary readers like you believe Chinese government is hiding the truth. If you do believe in the lab leak theory, then probably the lab in Fort Detrick, Maryland would be a better candidate. The lab was US army's Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases and was shut down on July 2019 due to 'safety concern'. (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/05/health/germs-fort-detrick…). If you still remember, during the same period, there are many e-cigarette pneumonia cases reported in the US, with the symptoms very similar to Covid. So…

Conspiracy theory aside, scientists have found evidences like sewage water that shows Covid already exists in US and Europe in 2019. So likely the wet market in China is not the real source but the first outbreak due to the size of their population.

At the end of the day, I'm not trying to defend China or something (having said that, if anyone from CCP is reading and want to pay me for writing this up, message me and i'll give you my Paypal, bitcoin is also accepted). Just want to remind ppl, all governments, eastern or western, capitalism or communism, Australian or Chinese, they all do brainwash and propaganda. The easiest way is to set a foreign target to leverage the patriotism of the ordinary ppl and direct the anger to the target, so that they forget about what's the root cause of the domestic problems — the top 1%.

    • +1

forget about what the real problems are.

I guess your right the major problem worldwide is staying alive during the pandemic that is causing economic devastation that started either in a wet market or a lab in China that they refuse to cooperate with the investigation . Again I must be brainwashed with facts point to those 2 starting points . Wet market surely is the greater probability .

As this is a deal for a free language course, and should not be a political debate, I will not escalate this further. This is not really the place to discuss such a complex political issue
However, while I think it is everybody's right to 'boycott" China (for whatever reason is important to you and we all have our own reasons for our conduct and actions), then please be consequent and consistent: do not buy anything made in China and downvote any deals promoting such products.
This of course means no Apple deals (as most of those products are made in the Chinese factories of a Taiwanese company), and about 90% of all products in the eBay sales cannot be posted. That will also mean that Ozbargain would be a much less busy site.

Boycotting a free (!) language course has no effect while not buying (for money) Chinese made products might (if that is the way you are inclined).

This is deal for a free language course - no more, no less.

I wish everyone a peaceful and relaxing evening and Sunday. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

    • Totally agree. The reason why a simple deal like this - we've seen many Udemy deals - was turned into a farce by the trolls is because the site admin encourages this behavior. This creates more traffic and "vibrancy", albeit a toxic one, on the site. Ive seen this site increasingly turning into a political forum.

      • Chinese sportsmen preparing for Olympics: Taiwan is part of China.
Chinese people: Champion, great person, my hero!

Taiwan sportsmen preparing for Olympics: Taiwan not part of China.
Chinese people: Keep politics away from sports! Sportsmen should only care about sports!

    • -1

about 90% of all products in the eBay sales cannot be posted

Do you really believe about 90% of Ebay products are of China origins ?
I give up with facts really with some people and the 6 votes for that rubbish statement .

  • missed out on the top course, code expired :(

this comment thread shows that clearly alot of Aussies have a love hate relationship with China, which is as much as I do lol

    • +1

The hate isn't with the country, but with the communist party.

      • please leave people who don't like politics alone. thanks

        • +1

You had the option to not bother me as well.

  • +1

Someone says I hate CCP but I love Chinese people. So please tell me how to distinguish between Chinese people and CCP on the street, by their face??

    • +1

Somone says I hate gunman but I love Aussie, so please tell me how to distinguish between Aussie and gunman on the street, by their face?
      *feel the stereotype and discrimination?

    • +1

Same way as you do in Oz, when distinguishing between between a Liberal (sic) party supporter and a Labor/Greens supporter in the street - by their face. Their politics and allegiances are immediately recognisable.

      That makes sense, doesn't it.

  • +3

some guys are so pathetic, seeing Chinese course deals and PTSD.

    • +2

Some shills are so pathetic they will support genocidal maniacs for 2 cents.

      • the stolen generation? thanks giving in north america? I didn't get your point

        • So genocide is okay because other atrocities have happened? Can't societies progress and improve?

          • @FabMan: either genocide or double standards are not ok. as you said, things are improving. the only thing getting worse is Master Li's health :D

          • @FabMan: can't really ask more for a developing and young country that just asserted to end the poverty. the reason you are judging is you are in a rich and mostly educated country with a well-proven social system.

            • @ToTheMoon: The judgement by me is on atrocities, rich or poor, people are right to criticise horrible actions of any government, China, Australia, US or others. The US is wealthy, and they are criticised by everyone, including their own people. Knowledge of the actions taken by a government is needed to be known by its people, it is through the actions of the people progress is made, while hiding and denying their actions is the best way for governments to keep their power.

China is far from being a young country, though it is definitely developing, I do not hate China and I would like to visit the country someday. Something I do find weird is western cultures harping on about China’s pollution. Since all that is the world using China as its factory, demanding goods are made cheaply, and then blame them for the pollution generated.

      • I'm waiting on a German course, can't wait to neg them, maybe anything usa politic related posts
