Seems like a good price, was looking for a 40-44" for the patio and this seems better than the eko/blaupunkt/kogan options in a similar price range.

Spend a bit more and get a 4k panel.

  • I got a 43p715 for $370 today from JB.

    • Could've got something like this instead https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/ffalcon-50uf2-50-ultra-hd…

Must be a FFalcon Brand Ambassador

        • Nope. The UF2 has good reviews, check it out.

          • @MiscOzB: Do you have it? I’m guessing it’s not Android TV but another OS?

            • +1

@tomsco: I don't. The specs say Linux OS. But regardless of the OS I'd rather just buy something like a 4k Fire TV Stick ($59 on Prime Day) or Chromecast with Google TV ($60-$70).

        • +4

FFalcon is a TCL budget brand. It has a reputable name behind it, just don't expect amazing quality. It's fair for the price.

        • and add another $100 for extended warranty to match TCL 3 years

          • @lowey71: True, the TCL 55" is probably worth the extra $33 then. Has Android TV too.

          • +3

@lowey71: extended warranty is a scam

            • @xazark: @xazark Partially agree. All depends on how much you want to fight with retailer, manufacturer or the ACCC. IMHO, if everything else is equal, or small/reasonable price difference, some may 'prefer' to have the no quibble option. Just buy something with a longer warranty to begin with, if possible.

Regarding FFalcon TV's, from JB's website - https://support.jbhifi.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/360053005194… - you will have to fight with them to agree to any repairs after 1yr (< $500).

Going from reviews (on product review), doesnt look like people have had a luck with FFalcon warranty claims after 12months either.

              • @lowey71: I used to work in retail and the profit margins on extended warranty are huge, often >80%. Just looking at it simply in the example you used and even ignoring the fact you could argue ACL to cover it during those 2 years anyway, $100 for extra 2 years means that you would need more than 1 in 4 to fail within that 2 year period for it to be worth purchasing. I understand each to their own and that some people want to pay for it to have peace of mind, I am just not one of those people and would prefer to purchase a better quality item than to spend it on insurance. Maybe if it was a more expensive item and the cost was 1/10 or lower, but when you are paying 1/4 of the price for an extra 2 years I just cannot see value in that at all, especially when we are on Ozbargain!

    • I bought it in store and asked for further discount but they said can’t further down. So only 20% :-(

  • FULL HD LOL, no thanks

      Perfect for everyone else.

Why not just say "Good enough for me", what does your opinion has to do with "everyone"?

    • +3

Because there's sooooo much 4K content in the universe. Perfectly fine bedroom TV. Could spend the $60 more for the 4K TCL but honestly didn't think it would add any value even for $60.

      • Not for some who are acrobatic in the bedroom, they need best bang for buck with 4K I would assume! 😇.

  • Solid tv for the price. I’ve got two tlcs running a treat for cheapies

Do you sit at or within 1.5-1.6m of your 43" TV? If you don't, 4K screen resolution is of no benefit.

      • I agree. Some people make it as if they work and do photoshop off their TV's. Get real. Resolution matters less than quality panel and colours with rich blacks..

I recently bought the 4K 43in TCL Android Tv. The quality of the panel is amazing, android tv works great, all apps work fine - though i hate it that android forces ads on the homescreen and there's no way to customize them so that adult content isn't displayed as kids use the tv most.
I don't see the benefit of going for expensive LG or Samsung tv's which have their own OS, or the super expensive sony android tv's.

    • You pay for the quality. Like no blooming of edges and backlighting when it comes to Sony TVs. I have a 43inch Sony 4k that I bought for 800 new a few years back. Don't regret it.

Butttt. For a big tv for cheap money then these brands are just fine as a second TV, or you're not fussy about picture quality.

Chromecast with Google TV has support for kids profiles now, so you can always buy that as a add-on if you want to separate the adult content from the kids.

    • though i hate it that android forces ads on the homescreen and there's no way to customize them

I've heard about these ads, but I have a TCL TV and never had as issue. I got a pop-up ad once on the home screen and wondered wtf it was, so went through the settings and disabled anything that sounded like marketing and I've never seen it again.

I don't see the benefit of going for expensive LG or Samsung tv's which have their own OS, or the super expensive sony android tv's.

Same here. When they are side by side in a store you can tell the difference, but when you're at home watching just one TV it does the job it needs to do nicely.

      • Thanks both for sharing on ads and kids. Its not a popup ad, it's the ads in the background when the tv starts - usually a tv show on Ch 9 or Amazon Prime is displayed behind the app bar on the top.
Sometimes the images are inappropriate for kids.
I did go through the settings to see what to turn off - dint find anything there. I deleted the Ch 9 app, hoping I won't see ad's related to its tv shows but that dint help.

        • Oh right, so at the Home screen with your apps you're talking about the recommendations? I just checked I have 3 'recommendations' that scroll through, one for 9Now, one for 7Plus and one for Disney+ and I don't even have Disney+ installed. Now that you mention it, they are kind of annoying.
I took a look and a bunch of websites mention an 'Apps Only' mode which is supposed to remove this but I don't have that option in my menus, so maybe it's only on the latest version of Google TV?

          • @1st-Amendment: "Apps only" mode doesn't removed the ads. I was setting up a Chromecast with the latest Google TV UI and it still shows the images up the top the home screen in apps only mode.

          • @1st-Amendment: Ya. Those recommendation of tv shows for apps that you don't have installed. Yes its on the latest google tv, and tcl tv updated to it without asking :(

Not sure why everyone laughs at the 1080p resolution. Most people have HD Netflix which at best is 1080p while broadcast TV is max 1080i50. It's a very suitable resolution for 80%+ of people out there.

This model can do HDR so if you have the 4K Netflix package you get 1080p HDR content, pretty much the only source besides YouTube as long as your app supports HDR, the ones on my TV do.

Source: I have a Sony FHD HDR TV.

Most 4k TV upscale contents to 4k. Whether it is effective or not is another topic.

      • Damn, my tv is still bulky AF LCD I should upgrade. Thanks OP I might try the 4k and blow my mind in the process

      • Upscale is really just another word for stretch, it can't add information that doesn't exist in the original source. Things always look better in native resolution.

    • +1

Not sure why everyone laughs at the 1080p resolution.

Because too may people look only at a spec sheet and think if one number is bigger than another it is automatically better and it turns into a pissing contest.

  • I bought

  • FFalcon - colours that flies…away from you

  • Dang, was umming and arring about what size to get, and now I get neither :(

    • You dodged a bullet on this one!

      • Why do you say that?
