Updated the post with your link, not sure how I missed that when scanning around!

    • Showing $455 now

  • Would anyone know if this the Most Reliable Mesh System ? I don't really care about speed just need reliability

If you’re not ready to jump on the Wifi 6 (or Unifi) train then this seems like one of the best options out there.

To buy a new router today without wifi 6 is a mistake. I would expect AC only gear to cost far less than $400 these days.

    • Do you have a wifi 6 recommendation at a decent price? I didn’t actually pull the trigger on this because still undecided whether I want to spend extra to future proof the setup in a house I’ll only be in for a couple of years.

      • I'd probably go the Xiaomi models (AX3000, AX6000, AX1800) which seem extremely full featured for their price and support mesh. They are in Chinese language however so I wouldn't suggest them to anyone that wasn't at least a bit technical.

Perhaps the new Amazon Eero when it's on sale. It was $349 for prime day.

        I've been looking/hunting too

There is the Asus XT8 ($$$) or possibly the Ubiquiti Amplifi Alien (also $$$ and watch out for the kits being hard coded) but anything mesh compatible with AX is looking very $$$. The Deco X20 looks like a good option if you do not need a lot of ethernet ports and can live with AX1800.

Its a difficult landscape as you dont know who is going to continue which mesh systems/families in the long run.

    • May be wait for the recently introduced WiFi 6E models which have a 3rd band of 6Gz in addition to 2.4Gz and 5Gz . These routers are the future for connecting multiple IOTs in a smart home .

I was thinking the same but decided not to wait because:
        1. I need a new router now so I cannot really wait.
        2. WiFi 6E gear will be even more expensive so will have to wait even longer for the price to level out.
        3. WiFi 6E uses the 6 GHz band and I think the communication authority here in Australia is still working on getting this band approved for WiFi use, so it may take a while. https://www.acma.gov.au/consultations/2021-04/rlan-use-5-ghz…

I don't think companies will release WiFi 6E routers until there is approval in Australia.

As a side note, ASUS has already released the WiFi 6E version of this router in the US

  • Note I have the CT8 (2 units) for about 6 months now, and they are OK. My biggest problem was the backhaul worked perfectly for a while, and then continually dropped back to the (slower) 2.4ghz channel, and wouldn't switch back without a reboot. Forums suggest others have the same problem (for this and the XT8 model, but XT8 models get more firmware updates it appears..). Problem fixed using ethernet backhaul, which works fine but sort of defeats the purpose.
If I had a choice, would go with Ubiquiti Alien, which is more expensive, but I have more faith in Ubiquiti gear..

  • Would they pair well with an ASUS RT-AX88U? Need to reach shed and garage but have some thick brick walls to get through so is spotty at the moment with just the one router.
