    Is this worth it over Ideapad 5 pro. I'll be using it out and about and would like some light gaming here and there (e.g Doom Eternal, Diablo 4 etc…)

        Yup, it's a bit disappointing. I need a bit more ram cause I plan to study some ML and programming soon. 16gb should be enough for uni study though.

        You can get 32gb but you need to pimp up the processor to 5900HX for an extra $400

        It's also 700 dollars cheaper. Yes, worse video card and not as good a screen, but 700 dollars is a LOT of money, soldered ram or not.

      Although 80Wh is a reasonable battery capacity, I would expect his will have pretty average battery life. The power brick, at 300W, is going to add at least an extra kg, and you wouldn't want to stray too far from it.

        I suppose this can be worked around if you have a USB-C charger (65W and above). So if one needs to be mobile throughout a day and not doing anything heavy, they could bring along a smaller USB-C charger and leave the bigger brick at home. I checked the specifications and one of the USB-C port supports Power Delivery.

            @Carrian: I see, well you can always add extra SSD on your own. Some reviewers also say the RAM (from Lenovo) will need to be upgraded anyway if you really keen in getting extra gaming performance.

      I tried five different agents over the last couple of days to see if I could get a better deal on the 3070 variant, but all refused to go below the price on the website ($2464.15), so you seem to have better luck than me!

      All agents said their managers refused to do a better deal for higher SSD capacities, extended/upgraded warranties, etc.

          If you plan to use the display a lot, yes absolutely. Much brighter and lots more real estate as well as better aspect ratio. Legion 5 Pro display is gorgeous.

    it could be a very long wait for delivery… the recent Ideapad 5 pro deal says 6-9 days delivery but after ordering the update say Sep delivery, and then now Dec delivery… still not sure what is the true delivery date

    Be aware of the slow memory issues, however easily fixed with a swap out.

          Only if going from 16g to 32g. And only when your fps is above 70 or so, because it simply adds a luttle to the cpu bottleneck. If you’re already GPU bound, it won’t make any difference.

          And if you’re starting with 32gb stock ram, its not even worth upgrading. You’ll only see a 5% improvement about 10% of the time if you’re gaming at anything below 100fps

              @brimmy11: yes mate, i own the L5P myself. 1tb/32gb/3070 variant. it actually is related to capacity, but not directly. the stock 32g ram is somewhere between single and dual rank because it has twice as many physical memory chips as the stock 16g, which mosly nullifies the benefit provided by faster tRFC clock / dual rank ram. You're right in that it's not specifically to do with capacity though. Some people have been buying 32gb kits only to find that the mfrs are now putting double-capacity chips on them, so they are back to the same issue of having half as many actual memory chips on the stick.

              It's mostly to do with ryzen being very picky about what ram it plays nice with. the 4000 series suffered the same problems. Jarrod's videos only touch on some of the testing that has been carried out by the Discord community.

              The consensus is that it's not a bad decision to buy the 16g stock machine for cheap, then upgrade to high quality 32gb kit. but if you get the stock 32gb for a decent price, it's not worth the imperceptible difference to get faster 32gb because it really is only 1-5% difference in any situation for the abovementione reasons.

        gpu limited to 40w (about 1/3 full power) unless plugged into a lenovo high wattage power adapter. also accepts power input via usbc, but even with a 100w brick, usb-c power still limits the gpu to 40w.

        Other than that limitation, the ryzen cpu is very efficient and it actually has quite decent battery life if you pay attention to what is chewing through your battery in the background

        Hah, I would say the 7 is slightly more gamery than the 5 Pro.

        Big "LEGION" on the lid compared to Y logo with no text, and RGB vents and trim (presumably you can turn that off.)

      Most notable improvement on L7 over L5P is cooling - vapor chamber vs heat pipes
      Having said the heap pipes on L5P seems more than adequate - hence my looooong wait.

      Design, speaker quality and rgb lighting are the main differences. Plus on the 7 the ports at the back have backlit labels which can be handy.
