  • Hey, it is very cheap — even with $18 delivery.

    Thanks!

  • Actually I have just looked at this product again. The cheapest price for 300GB Samsung IDE HDD is $100 from the same shop — that means only $9 for the USB2 enclosure. Although I am a bit reserved about Samsung hard disks (got a friend working in their warranty claim department), I wish I have more votes for this one.

  • Hi scott,

was actually looking at buying this - any suggestions on where i can pick up one that's approx same size (300GB) for a cheap price?

i don't know much about samsung hdd's.. nor these external drives for that matter :)

  • samsam,

Don't know about "getting it cheaper" as it is already quite cheap for a 300GB HDD. If you are looking at saving postage, then it really depends on where you are.

Apus (parent company of Shopping Square) is just right next to UNSW in Kingsford, Sydney (10 minutes walk from my place). Although I am not sure whether you can pick up directly from the shop.

  • In the USA you can get 500GB Western Digital External HDD. 16MB cache. etc. all for $99USD including shipping. With Google checkout you can save $10. Shipping to Australia is for sure less than $18AUD to Australia.

    Import baby.

Check out buy.com for the deal.

    • Sure. Things are cheaper across the Pacific to the States (or to any South East Asia countries). That's the problem when you are living on a big land with few competition. However hard disks are something I would rather buy locally because of the warranty claim issues.

For the last 5 years of hard-disk buying, I think I have made over 50% of warranty claim as they do fail within 3 years. Maybe something wrong I did to the hard disks (they all are running 24x7 on my servers), but it would be a PITA if I need to get a claim from an overseas distributor.
