I miss my one of these. One of my favourite phones I've used.

    • +6

      I am still using it.

      • +2

I kept it until I "upgraded" to the 4 XL. Terrible decision.

        • +1

Thought I was the only one!

          • +1

@viggenn: Nope! I've still got it since the Pixel 5 didn't have a XL variant. All the leaks about the Pixel 6 and 6 XL / Pro seek very positive so fingers crossed for a return of a decent flagship pixel!

      • Mine is still going strong too.

  • BTW.. save a couple of more dollars by buying the 64gb version for $229

    • At 229 might as well spend the extra 9 Bux for double the storage imo

    is it that good?

    • Good for high quality (storage saver) Google photo uploads.

      • Is that still free? didn't Google start charging a monthly fee?

        • +1

really don't think it matters, high quality or not , unlikely you' go back and revisit those photos with high quality photo lol
but seriously it's a really good phone ! I've been using 2-3 years.with the back finger unlock it's just great :D

In the olden days 4GB RAM was the bees' knees.

    • Leaned new parse, Thx

  • +3

The unlimited original quality storage has expired…

    • I thought that if you had the Pixel 2 or Pixel 3 you can still take advantage of it? I thought i read it in the comments of the previous deal

      • +2

Only the Pixel 1 has unlimited 'original quality' uploads. The Pixel 2's has expired and allows 'high quality/storage saver' uploads (compressed - affects video much more than photos).

      • +1

I think it is only for the pixel 1, they removed from 2 onwards sometime this year. For this price, it might be better to have a turkey google account and pay the yearly plan for 2TB storage for $44 AUD. For the price of this phone you can get 5.4 years. It's not unlimited, but still a lot of storage

Also, you can pay for smaller plans and upgrade only as needed, that way you can get more than 5 years of storage for the same price

        • Would the Turkish account need to be a brand new one, it can you convert your existing one over?

          • @kiitos: I think you can convert your existing one but BEWARE, as you can only change your country once a year. If you change it to Turkey, you won't have access to some aussieapps on the Play store. In my case i created a separate account, not a big deal to manage both from my phone.

            • @pichxlonco: Wouldn't a VPN solve that issue?

              • @Bretttick: yeah, you need a VPN to get the prices, but your account must also be configured for that country. Not sure why google set it up that way.

Unfortunately no more updates for pixel 2's so no Android 12 for you!

How are retailers still selling new ones of these phones? And also, the listed RRP on the website seems no longer accurate. ($1549!!)

  • Surely a Motorola or a Samsung A-series would be a better option than this?

  • +4

Funny that in 2017 a 6" display was considered extra large.

  • +1

My favourite phone of all time.
Have passed it on to my daughter and still going strong.

    • I did not have any of these issues for the 3 years I used mine. Only upgraded when the camera decided to stop working one day.

    • What an ironic username… Worst web browser I have ever used.

  • Blue tinge issue when viewing from an angle?

    • I didn't have that on mine. Screen was fine after 3 years. Just burned in pixels around the static parts of the screen like clock and WiFi signal etc

    • Yeah but after a few weeks I didn't even think about it. Still using it.
Sweating it til 6 arrives in October.

  • +1

I loved this phone. Would still be using it if it weren't for the high refresh screens of new phones.

But my main concern are the batteries - this model was manufactured in 2017. have these handsets been sitting in a warehouse, now with 5 year old batteries?

    • +3

Pixel 2 was hands down best phone I ever had.

      • That one and my LG V20 (but it had screen ghosting which was really annoying)

      • I haven't felt the need to upgrade yet.

        • I wouldn't have if my screen didn't die :(

  • +1

i thought they took away the unlimited photo uploads and it won't be 20 plus years…. they find a way to get rid of it

  • great phone, unfortunately, no more updates since last year… And i can't root mine because its a Verizon ..

  • +3

Miss my p2xl but I think it's not worth buying nowadays.

  • Still using mine as we speak, but it's definitely on its deathbed…sluggish, battery life is average and just can't cope like it used to….

    • Same.
You going to make it to the 6 in October?

      • Yep that's the plan! Hopefully somewhat affordable too

  • Weight 175 g

    Lol standard weight now

  • Still using my pixel 2. Great phone. I use it for the basics. It's only in the last month that I have I been having problems. Shutting itself off/crashes mainly.

Will upgrade if the pixel 6 is a big step up.

    • Mine has crashed a few times, I think it was due to an app.

I literally have 500+ chrome tabs open and it hasn't caused me any issue.
I don't see the point in any upgrade anytime soon, unless something amazing comes up.

  • My 58yo mum has been using an iphone 6s for the last few years and in desperate need of an upgrade.. would this be a good phone for her?

    • I wouldn't say so. It's no longer updated by Google in terms of software and security updates.

    • Look like she'll need another iPhone, she will hate learning the UI of andriod

      • +2

Tried to move my ma from iOS to Android. Massive fail. Oldies love iphones.

        • A lot of young people in the same boat, like my mates 🤦

If oldies have learnt on an iPhone, you can be 99% sure they won't like an Android hence the comment I made

    • No. Iphone XR would be good

  • Had one of these, but destroyed it in frustration due to intermittently not making phone calls lol

  • +1

Bought one during 2018 Telstra deal and still rocking it…

  • Hey OP, is it worth mentioning that this is brand new?

  • Basically same specs as my Nokia 8. Any reason to upgrade to this? Can actually get AOSP on Nokia 8 now.

    • I'm in same boat as you. The low nits on the pixel is stopping me. I need a brighter screen for outdoors, I wouldn't want it any lower than the 8.

  • +1

Typing on a 2xl now in it's spigen case. Had a 4a 5g for a bit but have given that to the wife as her phone stopped turning on and gone back to the 2xl I got on one of those free jb hi-fi Telstra deals over 3 years ago and there is basically no difference. Just as fast day to day and actually a whole lot less screen jitter than the 4a when scrolling Google Chrome. Mine has the dreaded camera failure many are starting to suffer from which is annoying, especially now you need to check in everywhere with a QR code, but some days like today it miraculously decides to work again all day but I know tomorrow it won't for the next week or two which is why I bought the 4a 5g.

Has had an extremely hard life with me being a firefighter and it being in my pocket in fires and mega sweat. Even managed to somehow in 1 fire come out of my pants pocket, work its way down the inside of my overtrousers and into my boot. Dunno how long it was there but it was soaked and had been wedged against my foot while working. It's been covered in water, dropped, thrown about. Went through the washing machine twice. Ride dirt bikes and it is my GPS on the handle bars in a mount, is my mavic drone screen. Just keeps going with only 1 very small scratch on the screen. Battery isn't as good as it used to be but still not overly bad. Used it yesterday on a moto ride for 4 hours running GPS and still had 30% at the end of the ride. SOT is around the 4 hour time now if using it flat out.

Definitely echo the comments on the best phone I have ever owned. Seriously considering buying on of these so I can have the same phone with a working camera.

  • Can any long term Pixel 2 XL users comment on the battery life? How long was it before a replacement was needed?

    • Had mine since launch in 2017. Same battery, accubattery says 80% health but not 100% convinced as the cold nights it did seem to drain faster. I only charge it to 85% though so that has helped it last longer.

  • How about bOt-97 for a 2017 year phone. Going on nearly 4 yrs old now. Security updates? A11 update ?

  • The price has gone up by $10.
Pretty sure that’s still a bargain and didn’t require expiry.

  • good phone, no Google android OS version updates (Android 10 to 11) as older than 3 years. heaps of ROMs though.

  • I wonder if those that purchased their Google Pixel 2 XL also experienced the same issues as discussed: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10842108/redir
