    Cheap deals, dodgy website.

Mate just logged into MSY to buy something and then noticed the name the website was welcoming was different after clicking a couple of pages, then received a text message from a random number advising him that the website leaked his data to him and he was just letting him know.

  • Might be better to go the $50 more for the S2721DGF

Website is leaking private info! Massive privacy breach yet again proves MSY can't build websites

Seems their server responses have pregenerated cart information from ANY USER. Response also includes that user's personal information from their profile (address, phone number, email, DOB)

I just got a text from someone letting me know that my info was breached to them.

Are you guys having us on?

          • @[Deactivated]: Nope. 100% real.

@Spoolax: Well that's worrying. I've been waiting for this monitor to go on sale for a few weeks now and jumped on the deal and created an account and purchased one the second I saw the deal pop up. :/

@[Deactivated]: HI, all payments are direct to the payment gateway. Unlike other online stores, MSY does not store or record any payment details. All payment details are on a secure layer between the customer pc and the payment gateway.

          • @[Deactivated]: Seems to only be visible to people that log into their own account

            • @iMagoo: What do you mean by that?

              • @[Deactivated]: You only get someone else's information if you yourself have logged into the MSY website under your own account first.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: You don't have access to someone else's account, MSY's pregenerated initial response page has someone else's details in it after you log in. Also seems as though payment information is not included.

                • @iMagoo: Ahhhh okay, thanks for clearing that up!

@iMagoo: Hi, we have fix this issue. Thanks.

Wait so if I made an account with them ages ago, and have visited their site today but not logged in/added anything to cart, am I safe?

      • No idea what the criteria is for someone's account details to be included in MSY's serverside generation of the page, potentially just last cart edit is surfaced for each individual MSY store.
E.g. The generated page for Dandenong will have a different set of account details to that of the Adelaide or online store page.

        • Thanks for the example. This is very disappointing from MSY. But relieved for those affected if their payment details weren’t displayed.

  • Any links to M27F reviews? Can't seem to find much on it. Am looking to pair with a PS4 and eventually Ps5.

There's a few reviews around for the m27Q

  • The usb-c for the M27Q isn't for display or power delivery is it?

    • I have the M27Q and the USB-C can deliver 10w of power and be used to connect a laptop/smartphone for display. I use a Macbook Pro 2017 with thunderbolt cable but it is limited to 120hz (probably limitation of my Macbook because going higher causes massive artifacting).

    • it's for display and power (but apparently not enough for laptops?)

Bought some items recently from MSY online but got sent wrong items.
Tried call their online store number few times but nobody pick up.
Called one of the store, they say online order can only be deal by emailing [email protected].
Email them the issue but until now still no reply.
Avoid using MSY at all cost unless you like to deal with ACCC since they don't learn from their hefty fine.

    • What did you buy and what did you get?

      • Order a few lightning cable but got sent usb-c and some cable strap but got cable zip ties instead :(

  • Thanks, wanted a cheap monitor for the kids. Was gonna get a crap no name. This seems decent for the price.

    • The 27" 4k from Dell eBay were around the $240 mark

M27Q is a great gaming monitor but as a warning, it uses BGR instead of RGB as a pixel layout. Windows can do some odd things rendering text as a result which looks a bit off. Plenty to read about it online.

I recently ordered the Dell and went through the comparison process with the Gigabyte.

I'm not super knowledgeable in this area, but the Gigabyte BGR layout issue that has been written about was a bit too much of a risk for me.

Essentially, this layout can cause text to be a bit blurry and has no impact on gaming performance. For me, the monitor will be used for WFH as well as gaming, so I didn't want to take the risk.

    • Ooooh that's a really important issue if you're reading lots of documents and PDFs which ClearType can't really interact with.

Honestly seems like the build-team sent the manufacturer the specs upside down and they've just never fixed it.

      • BGR panels have been around for a long time, even Dell had monitors with BGR panels before, so I don't think it's because "the build-team sent the manufacturer the specs upside down". It's actually the sub-pixel rendering technologies used by OS that is causing the blurriness. MacOS stopped using sub-pixel antialiasing since 10.14 so no text clarity issues if used with Mac.

MSY - Buy elsewhere. Bottom of the barrel at well…. everything. Cheapest price is subsidizing their dodginess.

  • +1

I still think this is a good deal because there's potential to get other less dodgy stores to match this price.

Would my GTX 1660 go well with the M27Q?

    • +1

I have gtx 1660 and ordered it a week ago, just received yesterday. For online games (I play CSGO and League of Legends), easily hit ~250-300 FPS for max settings. You need to tweak the monitor config a bit tho, but with tonnes of reviews it should be simple.
